Chrominance-luminance Signal Separation Patents (Class 348/663)
  • Patent number: 7643681
Abstract: Color correction is performed on a first set of three pixel values by determining a color phase of the pixel values. The determined color phase is used to determine a phase difference, and the phase difference is used to control an amount of color phase rotation applied to the chrominance pixel values of the first set. The color phase is also used to determine a first gain, and the first gain is used to control a scaling of the rotated chrominance pixel values, thereby generating color corrected chrominance pixel values. The color phase is also used to determine a second gain, and the second gain is used to control an amount of scaling applied to the luminance pixel value of the first set, thereby generating the color corrected luminance pixel value. How color phase determines phase difference, the first gain and the second gain is changed depending on lighting conditions.

Abstract: A digital video signal processing apparatus and method for frame-based adaptive spatio-temporal Y/C separation. In the digital video signal processing apparatus, an adaptive three-dimensional bandpass filter (3D BPF) performs Y/C separation using local comb filtering/1D band pass filtering/frame comb filtering when the edge direction is fixed vertically/horizontally/temporally according to spatio-temporal local characteristics of an image using spatio-temporal filters. When the edge direction is not fixed horizontally/vertically/temporally, the 3D BPF performs 2D or 3D band pass filtering in all directions. Thus, the 3D BPF continuously carries out comb filtering, 1D band pass filtering, frame comb filtering and 2D/3D band pass filtering according to the spatio-temporal local characteristic of the image.

Abstract: The present invention uses a 2D comb filter 20 to output a 2D chrominance signal C2d by comparing the current scan-line signals with the signals before and after the current scan-line signals. A 3D chrominance signal C3d is then acquired by directly subtracting two adjacent 2D image signals and then dividing by 2 to get an approximate chrominance signal C3d of the two 2D images. Ratio mixing is performed on the 2D chrominance signal C2d and the 3D chrominance signal C3d to output a near-actual chrominance signal. A chrominance variation value can be acquired by comparing the chrominance signals of the two adjacent images. Finally, an actual luminance signal of the current scan-line is separated by deducting the near-actual chrominance signal from the signals of the current scan-line to restore the luminance signal.

Abstract: A system and method for improving decisions for 2D combing of a video. A 2D-comb is applied to a baseband video signal, thus producing a chroma component of the signal, and an associated combing error. A narrowband filter is applied to the chroma component to produce a filtered chroma component. The chroma component and the filtered chroma component are blended in proportions based on the amount of combing error to produce a new chroma component. A larger combing error induces selection or blending a larger portion of the filtered chroma component, which as a result of narrowband filtering contains less cross-chroma error. Subtracting the new chroma component from the baseband video signal produces a new luma component. The chroma component can also be filtered using a wider band filter to produce a non-complementary chroma component to be subtracted from the baseband video signal to produce the new luma component.

Abstract: A video signal judgment circuit for judging the condition of a video signal compounded of a picture signal and a synchronization signal is provided. The video signal judgment circuit is adapted to first filter the video signal by a low-pass filter (LPF) having an adjustable cutoff frequency and then separate the synchronization signal from the filtered signal to provide a pulsed synchronization detection signal. Upon comparison of a detection signal formed on the basis of the synchronization detection signal with an adjustable judgment reference value, the video signal judgment circuit outputs a video signal judgment signal indicative of the condition of the video signal as to whether or not the video signal is nullified or deteriorated.

Abstract: A simplified Y/C separation circuit separates a composite video signal into a first luminance signal and a first color signal without subjecting the composite video signal to three-dimensional processing. A color demodulation circuit color-demodulates the first color signal into a first color difference signal. A three-dimensional processing portion removes an image quality debasing component by performing three-dimensional processing with respect to the first luminance signal and the first color difference signal or a second luminance signal constituting a component video signal and a second color difference signal. A selector selectively supplies the first luminance signal and the first color difference signal or the second luminance signal and the second color difference signal to the three-dimensional processing portion.

Abstract: Input pixels are input to a thinning processing circuit. When thinning is performed at the thinning processing circuit, minimum values are selected in order to reduce the pixel data, whereby loss of thin lines is prevented. The thinned image data are input to a binarization processing circuit. Although the image having been thinned through selection of minimum values becomes dark as a whole, collapse of characters can be suppressed, because the binarization processing circuit dynamically changes a binarization threshold by employing, as the binarization threshold, the average of maximum and minimum values in each local region. In a density flat portion, the local maximum value and the local minimum value assume the same value. Therefore, when the difference between the local maximum value and the local minimum value is not greater than a predetermined range, binarization is performed by use of a fixed threshold value.

Abstract: A YC separator circuit which is capable of achieving YC separation at a high accuracy. The YC separator circuit comprises line memories, bandpass filters, an edge detector circuit, a color correlation determining circuit, and a YC separation filter circuit. The YC separator circuit separates a C signal from a composite signal using a two-line comb filter or a three-line comb filter. The subtractor subtracts the C signal separated by the YC separation filter circuit from the composite signal to separate a Y signal. A trap filter is a frequency filter for dividing a Y signal from a composite signal. A luminance correlation determining circuit calculates a difference between the Y signals received from the subtractor and trap filter, and outputs the Y signal separated by the subtractor when the difference is larger than a predetermined value, and outputs the Y signal separated by the trap filter when the difference is smaller than the predetermined value.

Abstract: Certain embodiments of the invention disclose a method and system for processing in a non-line locked system. The phase relationship between the sub-carrier signal on consecutive video lines in a video comb filter is determined by synchronizing the two video lines. The synchronization is achieved by aligning the color bursts signals in each of the two video lines. The phase error between the two video lines is determined through the use of a correlation operation. The phase error between consecutive video lines is used to automatically adjust the delay lines used by the video comb filter. The line delay adjustment is provided by changing the values of a variable integer delay and a fractional integer delay. Line delay adjustments reduce the artifacts that occur in the separation of luma and chroma components of a composite video signal.
