Abstract: A color wheel includes a plurality of color filter segments disposed so as to form a disk configuration, and a support member to fixedly set the plurality of color filter segments in place. Each of the color filter segments has a circular outer circumference, an inner circumference measuring shorter than the outer circumference, and two sides each connecting between the outer circumference and the inner circumference. In the color wheel described above, a chamfer is provided at the innermost portion of at least one of the two sides. The chamfer provides a clearance between opposing sides of any two adjacent color filter segments, so as to house burrs that are often formed at the sides, and therefore the opposing sides are fitted closely to each other even when burrs are formed at the sides. Consequently, spokes generated between two adjacent color filter segments can be minimized.

  • Patent number: 7187509
Abstract: There is provided a color wheel which includes: a color filter disk having a side surface; and a rotary member having a circumferential surface and adhesively attached to the center portion of the color filter disk. In the color wheel described above, a portion of an adhesive for fixing the rotary member to the color filter disk sticks out on the side surface of the color filter disk along the circumferential surface of the rotary member, and the portion of the adhesive sticking out, when hardened, functions as a barrier to prevent uncured portions, if any, of the adhesive present between the two components from getting scattered out in the radial direction on the side surface of the color filter disk when the color wheel is rotated at a high speed during the inspection process, thus improving the production yield rate.

  • Patent number: 7180510
Abstract: A field sequential color projector includes an area sensor unit having an area sensor for photographing a screen, and an optical filter for permitting only a red light having the same color as a laser beam from a laser pointer to be input to the area sensor, and a color period/timing extraction unit which extracts timings for projecting red, green, and blue images. When a projection timing for a red image arrives while an image is projected, an MPU (Micro Processor Unit) receives a light of an image projected on the screen at that time to acquire image information, and detects a position pointed by the laser beam based on the acquired image information. Even if there exists a portion having the same color as the laser beam in the projected image, a pointed position detection device accurately detects the position irradiated by a pointing light of the laser pointer.

  • Patent number: 7175288
Abstract: A projector includes a lamp, a ballast, a micro controller unit and an optical engine. The lamp emits a light ray. The ballast starts the lamp and selectively outputs an operating power and a blanking power to the lamp. The micro controller unit controls the ballast. The optical engine receives the light ray and outputs a projecting image to a screen outside the projector. When the projector enters a blanking mode from a normal operating mode, the micro controller unit outputs a control signal to the ballast, and the power supplied from the ballast to the lamp is changed from the operating power to the blanking power.

  • Patent number: 7173780
Abstract: A color wheel with dovetailed balancing groove, includes a motor, a metal ring and a set of color filter set. At a rotatable portion of the color wheel, such as the peripheral portion between the metal ring and the housing of the motor, or on the peripheral surface of the metal ring, a balancing groove with narrow opening and wider inside is formed thereon. Using the feature of a narrow opening and wider inside, glue is added into the opening and dries to become solid balancing material. The color wheel is less prone to deviate from the metal ring, even though a relative larger centrifugal force is induced and acted thereon while the color is running at higher speed and higher temperature.

  • Patent number: 7139040
Abstract: A system and method for correcting non-periodic event time of arrival data in a control system. The system and methods are particularly applicable to the speed and phase control of a color wheel used with spatial light modulators. The circuitry automatically and accurately compensates for non-periodic index signals occurring when one or more index marks on the color wheel are misplaced. The system adds to or subtracts clock pulses from the actual time of arrival of a specific index mark until the corrected value equals the desired or nominal value. The system then generates a PWM signal for controlling the speed and phase of the color wheel.
