Patent number: 6870331Abstract: In a cathode ray tube, plural electron beams are directed towards a faceplate biased at screen potential and are magnetically scanned by a non-self-converging deflection yoke across the faceplate to impinge upon phosphors thereon to produce light depicting an image. The plural electron beams are substantially converged near two opposing edges of the faceplate. A processor changes the raster of the image from a first raster corresponding to position of the image to a second raster corresponding to the position of the plural electron beams on the faceplate. One or more electrodes between the tube neck and the faceplate are biased above and/or below screen potential to deflect electrons landing near the periphery of the faceplate.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 2001Date of Patent: March 22, 2005Assignees: Sarnoff Corporation, Orion Electric Company, LTDInventors: Dennis J. Patent number: 6795043Abstract: A first PLL circuit (100) receives a flyback pulse (VFB) as a reference signal and outputs a clock signal (CLK1), and a delay circuit (200) outputs a flyback delay signal (VFBD) having a predetermined delay time corresponding to the amount of horizontal movement on a screen. A second PLL circuit (300) receives a horizontal synchronizing signal (VHSYNC) and the flyback delay signal (VFBD) as a reference signal and a compared signal, respectively, and generates a horizontal drive pulse (VHD). A deflection yoke (12) receives the horizontal drive pulse (VHD) and generates a flyback pulse, and a step-down transformer circuit (16) outputs the flyback pulse (VFB) whose voltage is lowered. With this constitution, it becomes possible to generate a stable horizontal drive pulse which causes no jitter on the screen when a PIN balance correction, a KEY balance correction and a horizontal position adjustment of a CRT are performed by digital processing.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 2001Date of Patent: September 21, 2004Assignee: Mitsubishi Denki Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Tatsuo Shibata

Patent number: 6741296Abstract: The present invention discloses a color CRT system that can be easily adapted for installations in either the northern or the southern hemisphere. The CRT is symmetrical with respect to its yamming or set up for the earth's magnetic field so the CRT can be installed in either a normal or an inverted orientation. Likewise the yoke and yoke connector are designed and can be easily installed so the CRT scan starts in the upper left of the CRT in either the normal or inverted installation. The connectors for the neck video card are designed to exit the side of the card so the wires can be routed to the CRT system card in either CRT installation orientation. Finally the anode wire is made with a length and attachment point such that the anode is wireable when the CRT is in the normal or inverted orientation.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 2000Date of Patent: May 25, 2004Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Lawrence Edward Leise, Susan Ann Luerich

Patent number: 6127776Abstract: A method and apparatus for securing a deflection yoke onto a cathode ray tube includes forming pockets having deformable, resilient inner walls along a circumferential surface of the deflection yoke. When the deflection yoke is mounted on the cathode ray tube, the inner walls deform slightly to conform to a contact portion of the cathode ray tube. The position of the deflection yoke with respect to the cathode ray tube it then adjusted into proper alignment. Once the deflection yoke and cathode ray tube are properly aligned, fast curing epoxy is poured into each of the plastic pockets, wedging the deflection yoke permanently into its desired orientation on the cathode ray tube. The pockets can either be integrally formed with the deflection yoke or they can be manufactured and attached to the deflection yoke in a separate operation.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 1998Date of Patent: October 3, 2000Assignees: Sony Corporation, Sony Electronics, Inc.Inventor: Basab Bijay Dasgupta

Patent number: 6100779Abstract: The deflection unit has a yoke ring mounted on, and secured to, a coil assembly comprising deflection coils carried on a support. The yoke ring (22) is secured using a flow process in which the coil assembly is rotated about a vertical axis and flowable adhesive, e.g. polyurethane resin, is directed at one end (28) of the yoke ring such that the adhesive (30) flows over its outer surface (24) to its other end, forming a protective coating, and onto an adjacent part (20) of the coil assembly. The adhesive flows also over a substantial portion of the inner surface (23) of the yoke ring in the gap between the yoke ring and the coil assembly providing extensive bonding (32) between the yoke ring and the coil assembly which reduces unwanted noise effects from the unit in subsequent operation.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 1998Date of Patent: August 8, 2000Assignee: U.S. Philips CorporationInventors: Stephen P. Patent number: 5828278Abstract: A deflection system which improves picture distortion and misconvergence by eliminating the wrong winding of coil. in which a bobbin 20 for the deflection coil, whose partial cross section is of a funnel shape, is mounted on the outer peripheral surface of a cathode ray tube between a neck and a funnel for winding a deflection coil 26 thereon. When the deflection coil is wound from a bend onto the inner surface of a bobbin body, a coil layer regulating portion 40 is formed at a claw on the bend side. The coil layer regulating portion is a thick-wall portion formed on the inside of the claw on the bend side. By this thick-wall portion, a horizontal deflection coil 26 is wound on an average with respect to the bottom of respective bends 22 and 24 even when the horizontal deflection coil is wound from the bend 22, 24 onto the inner surface of the bobbin body. As a result, the coil is wound on an average with respect to a coil groove inside the bobbin, so that the wrong winding of coil is eliminated.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 1996Date of Patent: October 27, 1998Assignee: Sony CorporationInventor: Akio Murata
