The first electrode bars and the second electrode bars may be spaced apart from each other. The coupling electrode may be electrically connected to a portion of the first electrode bars, may have a opposite electrode bars and may overlap a portion of the second electrode bars to form coupling capacitor. The opposite electrode may be disposed between the first electrode bars and the second electrode bars to receive a second voltage different from the first voltage.

The voltage provided by coupling electrode lines is swung between a high voltage level and a low voltage level. Therefore, with different coupling of a large pixel electrode and of a small pixel electrode that both receive the same color displaying data, the voltage on the large pixel electrode is different from that on the small pixel electrode. Besides, through adjusting the value of the voltage respectively on the coupling electrode lines to compensate the gamma values of different colors and the gamma values of different colors will tend to be uniform.

    Abstract: A smectic liquid crystal color display is presented, which includes a first substrate layer and a second substrate layer. A mixed layer, formed by mixing smectic liquid crystal and an additive, is disposed between the first substrate layer and the second substrate layer. A first conductive electrode layer is disposed at one side of the first substrate layer facing the mixed layer. A second conductive electrode layer is disposed at one side of the second substrate layer facing the mixed layer. A color film layer is disposed at one side of the first conductive electrode layer or at one side of the second conductive electrode layer. The provided display may display images in full color at double sides simultaneously, and is advantageous in having a broad visual range, high contrast, good display effect, light and thin properties, and being environmental friendly with no radiation.
