Abstract: A pair of sports eyeglasses having a substantially hard, rigid frame, a pair of soft, resilient strap connector pads, and a headband assembly coupled to the rigid frame by the soft resilient strap connector pads. The soft connector pads provide cushioning at the junction between the rigid frame and the straps to provide a comfortable fit to the user. The frame front is shortened at its ends for use with helmets used in sporting activities or the like. The headband assembly includes a first elastic strap extending between the soft, resilient connector pads, a second strap coupled at its ends to the first strap and extending over the top of the user's head, and a third strap extending between the first and second straps along a rear portion of the wearer's head.

Abstract: A protective device for being removably attached to a pair of eyeglasses includes a pouch into which the eyeglasses can be inserted, without removal of the attachment elements. The pouch may be constructed with a drawstring closure, a snap closure, an elasticized closure or, in an alternate embodiment, separate pouches may be provided for separately protecting each of the eyeglass frames.

Abstract: An eyeglass retainer having an elastic elongate member having an elongate tubular member secured on each of the opposing ends of the elongate member as disclosed. Each tubular member defines a hollow interior recess dimensioned to slidably receive a potion of an eyeglass frame to form a detachable pressure fit therewith. The length of the interior recess is dimensioned to provide the user with a degree of adjustability for purposes of adjusting the tension in the elongate member when the retainer is positioned about the user's head.

Abstract: Reading neckglasses comprising a front piece used for reading when placed in front of the eyes of a person. A structure is for suspending the front piece about a neck of the person, so that the front piece will always be at hand for use by the person.

Abstract: Embodiments of a vision-hearing protection device are shown and described, each embodiment including an eyeglass retainer, for holding eyeglasses on the user's head or around the neck, and earplugs connected to the retainer for protecting the user's hearing. Preferably, the vision-hearing protection device includes a retraction feature wherein the earplugs may be quickly pulled in toward the retainer for more secure and compact "storage" and then quickly drawn out toward the ears for convenient reinsertion. In the preferred embodiment, the retainer is a hollow tube having three holes. A cord slidably extends through the hollow tube, with the cord ends extending out from the two holes that are nearer the retainer ends to attach to the earplugs, and with the cord middle portion extending out from the third hole in the rear or middle portion of the hollow tube.

Abstract: An adjustable attachment for eyeglasses in the form of a flexible headband attachment that can be attached to the existing portions of a pair of eyeglasses and looped around the head of the eyeglasses user. The flexible headband includes a clamp for adjusting the length of the headband to fit the headband tight around the head of the eyeglasses user and includes a stop for securing the headband in it adjusted length. The flexible headband attachment includes straps that pass through a movable sheathing between the eyeglasses frame and the clamp.

Abstract: The present invention consists of a device which removeably secures a standard set of earplugs to a pair of eyeglasses, preferably safety glasses, by double looping a standard cord with a pair of cord adjusters. A pair of double looped elastomeric temple securing means hold both a loop of the cord through one of each of their loops and an eyeglass temple piece through the other of their loops. The tips of the cord are provided with an annular binding surface which may be inserted into the end of a standard earplug cavity which is cylindrical in configuration and which secures the earplug to the cord tip by frictional engagement therewith.

Abstract: A dual-function eyeglass retainer/sweatband comprising a central sweatband portion having on each end attached thereto a retainer portion having a tubular end. The sweatband portion is manufactured from a different material than the retainer portions. Preferably the sweatband portion is made from elasticized terrycloth and the retainer portions are made from an elastomeric foam such as neoprene. The present invention provides for tight, loose and storage configurations. A method of transforming the present invention between the loose and tight configurations, including a half-twist, is disclosed. An optional knotted configuration is also disclosed.

Abstract: An eyewear retainer device includes a one-piece sleeve having a main body section and a pair of infolded sections extended within the confines of the main body section and joined to one another with a heat weld to form a double-walled tube-like structure having opposed open ends. A pair of elastic collars are captured between the double walls of the tube-like structure and surround the open ends thereof for gripping the temples of eyeglasses inserted therein. The double-walled tube-like structure is folded to form a loop with free ends and provided with a keeper which is slidable toward and away from the free ends for adjusting the effective length of the retainer device therebetween. The invention includes the method of making the eyewear retainer.

Abstract: An elongated band has an end piece on said end. Each end piece is made of a resilient material and has a slit extending through the end piece for receiving a temple bow of the eyeglasses. A pair of anti-splitting holes extend through the end piece, along each side of the slit, for preventing splitting of the end piece along the slit.

Abstract: Eyeglasses worn in winter weather conditions are subject to fogging due to condensation of water vapor. A method of removing condensation from eyeglasses is provided. The method involves heating the lenses of the eyeglasses, by making the lenses a part of an electrical circuit. Electric current is supplied to the electric circuit from a power source external to the eyeglasses. The size and weight of the power source may be minimized by utilizing a timer or a power regulator. A smaller power source is also made possible by selectively heating the lenses, applying more power in the area of the lenses most likely to experience fogging.

Abstract: A device for hanging a pair of eyeglasses about a neck of a user which includes an elongated flexible member for being positioned about the neck of the user. The elongated member has first and second terminal ends. A container having a generally hollow. interior cavity and an opening for accessing the cavity is secured to the first and second terminal ends of the elongated member. A tool is at least partially positioned within the cavity. The tool is sized to pass through the opening for allowing the user to access and use the tool. Spare parts can be housed within the cavity for use in repairing the pair of eyeglasses.

Abstract: One end of each of two stretchable and tensionable elastomeric hoses, preferably brightly-colored neoprene surgical hoses, slips over and compressively grasps an associated temple piece of an eyeglass frame. Each hose slips through, and is squeezed by, an axial bore within one leg of a one of two "L" shaped fittings. The fittings are typically made of molded plastic. The remaining end of each hose fits over a cylindrical protuberance, located on the leg of the "L" opposite to the bore, of the other fitting than that fitting through which it passes the bore. Accordingly, in a first, eyeglass holder, configuration each fitting compressively affixes to one end of one hose while it simultaneously slips and slides under frictional force through its bore the length of the other hose. By a variably adjustable amount of overlap between the two hoses an eyeglass holder of variable length and tension is realized.

Abstract: Buoyant jewelry for retaining and protectinq personal articles. Each jewelry/retainer comprises a brightly colored, buoyant body coupled to one or more fasteners for securing various articles such as sunglasses, keys, or personal care products which the swimmer or water sportsman desires to conveniently retain. The jewelry items comprise eyeglass retainers, bracelets, anklets, name badges, and necklaces. The body comprises a resilient core of low-density foam covered by a flexible, tubular sheath. The sheath brightly colors and reinforces the body. In one mode the fasteners comprise resilient tubes for axially gripping the ear pieces of conventional glasses. An alternative fastener comprises a flexible fabric channel for receiving fine wire or wrap-around ear pieces. Another embodiment comprises a cord looped through an item to be floated, and an optional cap is provided for slip-fitting over existing containers of personal care products.

Abstract: The present invention provides a pair of spectacles comprising a pair of lenses held by the respective lens frames, a side extending backwardly from each of said lens frames and balancing means for eliminating or reducing the load on the nose of a user. Therefore, the spectacles of the present invention requires no or substantially no bridge means for supporting the weight of the spectacles on the nose of the user.

Abstract: An eyeglass retainer for holding eyeglasses snugly and comfortably on the head of an active wearer has a coil of attractively colored separable loops that expands and is temporarily universally deformable so it can adjust to fit the wearer's head. Resilient connectors that surround the terminal ends of the coil may removably couple the coil to eyeglass stems. The retainer may also be used as an attractive fashion accessory.

Abstract: A case for holding eyeglasses defines the head band of an eyeglass retainer. The bow retaining straps of the retainer are secured to the outer edges of the case/head band. A separate, flexible sheet conforms to the shape of and is secured to the head band case for defining a pocket between the base and the sheet. A through slot in the sheet provides access to the pocket, permitting the folded eyeglasses to be inserted through the slot and encased between the base and the sheet while attached to the retaining straps.

Abstract: The present invention provides a pair of spectacles comprising a pair of lenses held by the respective lens frames, a side extending ackwardly from each of said lens frames and balancing means for eliminating or reducing the load on the nose of a user. Therefore, the spectacles of the present invention requires no or substantially no bridge means for supporting the weight of the spectacles on the nose of the user.

Abstract: An eyeglass retainer, which also provides protection for the ears, comprising an adjustable two-piece headband having tubular members for receiving and holding the temples of a pair of eyeglasses threaded therethrough, and wherein the tubular members hook over the user's ears when the eyeglass retainer is emplaced in operable position on a user's head, and wherein the eyeglasses are firmly retained in position due to the tubular members being snugly emplaced between the headband pieces and the user's head.

Abstract: An apparatus including an elongate securement cord with a ring formed at each end and each ring mounted to an elastomeric loop. Each elastomeric loop includes a spring member encompassing each elastomeric loop medially thereof to effect an upper and lower loop with the upper loop of each elastomeric loop resiliently securing a temple leg of an eyeglass assembly therewithin.

Abstract: An article holder for eyeglasses in which an elongated cord has opposite end portions and means for releasably connecting a cord to each temple bar of a pair of eyeglasses with the cord extending around the head or neck of the wearer. A sleeve is disposed in outer surrounding relation to the cord, the sleeve of a length to cover substantially the entire length of the cord and slidable with respect thereto. An adjusting member is engageable with an intermediate portion of the cord to extend through the sleeve for adjusting the effective length of the cord between a position fitting snugly around the head of the wearer and a position wherein the eyeglasses are loosely suspended from the neck of the wearer. Preferably the cord is composed of elastic material capable of stretching in a lengthwise direction and the sleeve is capable of undergoing expansion and contraction according to adjustments in the effective length of the cord.

Abstract: A floatable eyeglass retainer comprising an elongated, solid cord that is covered with tubular fabric. The cord is made of a buoyant material, which is also flexible. An oval shaped piece of resilient material is fastened directly to each end of the cord by use of a clamp. Covering each clamp is a small piece of tubing made of a buoyant material. A resilient spacer is slipped onto both ovals forming a small opening in which the temple of a pair of eyeglasses is force fed into, keeping the retainer in place on the eyeglasses.

Abstract: An eyeglasses and headgear combination is disclosed. The eyeglasses may be worn alone or in combination with the headgear. The temple member of the eyeglasses is alternatively positionable behind the ear of the user or attached to the headgear. When the temple is attached to the headgear, the temple extends outward from the front of the eyeglasses at an angle different than when the temple is positioned behind the ear of the user. This provides maximum comfort for the user in both positions. The coupling to which the temple is attached may be pivoted to move the eyeglass lenses out of the user's field of vision and rest them on his head or headgear.

Abstract: An eyewear retainer of fabric-covered elastic foam material or molded soft elastic and flexible plastic or rubber-like material, for holding eyeglasses and the like securely in place on wearer's head and providing padding for the bow portions of the eyeglasses. A pair of tubular portions fit over downwardly curved rear ends of the bows of a pair of glasses, and downwardly depending hook portions, attached to the tubular portions, fit behind a wearer's ears to retain the eyewear in place. Bending of the tubular portions causes bulging, acting as cushioning for the bows. End pieces of a strap may be attached removably to the tubular portions. The strap may be in two portions interconnected separably by mating pieces of hook-and-loop fastening material or a buckle to provide for adjustability and easy removal of glasses. A rear end portion of each tubular portion may define a number of rearwardly inclined interior circumferential ridges and grooves to provide a secure grip on the bows of a pair of glasses.

The attachment has at least one anchor member to grip the ear pieces of the spectacles and a retaining member, usually a cord, extends from the anchor member or members. A neck band is received around the neck of the wearer and the retaining member is attached to the neck band. One embodiment includes a head strap that extends secure behind the head of a wearer. A further embodiment has a single anchor member to grip both ear pieces and also to act as a head strap.

Abstract: The invention relates to sun glasses that are particularly designed for use in water sport activities such as surfboarding and bodysurfing or other activities where the user thereof might inadvertently lose the glasss while in worn in the normal manner or when not in use and hung around the neck of the user. The sun glasses comprises a main frame member which support the glasse members therein and a unitary head band of semihard material that is formed having a pair of side temple members and an angularly disposed bowed section with the bowed section being bent downwardly from the side members so as to be located approximate the nape of the neck. The main frame is hingedly attached to the distal ends of the side temple members whereby the main frame can be adjustably positioned in one of two positions.

Abstract: An eyewear retainer of elastic-type material comprised of a first elongated strap that fits around the head of a person and containing closed loops at each end for engaging the bows of a eyewear; a second elongated strap that fits around the neck of a person and connecting to a third connecting strap which engages the midsection of the first and second straps. Mating pieces of hook and loop fasteners are provided at the ends of said third connecting strap for engagement with said first and said second straps, and on the ends of said first strap for engagement with the eyewear.

Abstract: The novel eyewear retainer strap is usable with all spectacle frames and sunglasses. It has an elongated strip of stretchable neoprene material. The respective ends of the elongated member are folded back upon themselves to form a loop that passes through a slot on the rear end of a triangularly shaped connection member. Snap assemblies secure the end of the elongated member to itself. A tubular sleeve is detachably received on the front ends of the respective triangularly shaped connection members and the forward end of the tubular sleeves detachably receive the ear retainer portions of the temple members of a pair of eyeglasses. When the ear retainer portions of the eyeglasses have an aperture in them, the snap assemblies may be detachably secured therein without the use of the rubber sleeve.

Abstract: An ornamental sunglasses retainer comprising tubular stretchable material with the ends that fit over the sunglasses temple pieces treated with a stretch reducing prepolymer and threaded through either side of a manually releaseable friction catch and then pushed over the temple pieces of a pair of sunglasses into the hinges; there being sufficient length in some embodiments that by using the releasable friction catch the glasses may be held in any desired position from dangling around the wearer's neck to snugly against the wearer's head. Other embodiments include a flexible sun visor of foamed material attached to the tubular stretchable material of the retainer to added ornamental and utility.

Abstract: A headband for retaining glasses on the head of a user is formed of a closed cell foam material which is highly buoyant in water. The band has a series of nipples or studs formed into its surface which contacts the back of the head, and these both engage the hair to keep the band from slipping and also tend to hold the body of the band slightly away from the head, for increased air circulation and comfort of the user. The band or strap preferably is of a bright luminescent color so that, if the glasses and attached strap are dropped in water (as in boating), they can be easily found and retrieved.

Abstract: A retainer for a pair of spectacles comprises two separate strips of fabric, each of which includes a portion at one end by which it is connected to one of the temples of the spectacles, and a retaining ring through which the free ends of the fabric strips are received for relative sliding adjustment with respect to the back of the head of the wearer of the spectacles. The fabric strips are of special configuration, with their free ends including portions of sufficiently greater width than most of the remainder of their lengths that these widest portions cannot both pass through the ring simultaneously, thereby preventing accidental separation of the ring from the fabric strips.

Abstract: An eyeglass retainer which is an elongated band of stretchable material formed to have a pair of oppositely positioned tubes, each of which tubes can receive a portion of an eyeglass frame. The tubes are formed from two materials of differing stretchability to promote the gripping of the eyeglass frame inserted therein. The innermost ends of the tube may be sealed to prevent the eyeglass frame from passing completely through the tube. The sealing of the innermost tube end provides a self adjusting eyeglass retainer.

Abstract: An eyeglass holder including a temple receiving fixture formed of a body of elastomer and having an elongated slot through which the temple of an eyeglass may be passed along with a long narrow recess. An elongated strap having a long narrow cross sectional shape approximating that of the recess has an end disposed in the recess and is bonded to the recess by a bond therein. The invention contemplates that the bond may comprise an adhesive or a solvent weld.

Abstract: An adjustable retaining strap for eyeglasses includes an elongated tubular member formed of a flexible resilient material. End portions of the tubular member are reverse-fold to define end loops that are retained by end sleeves each having a passageway therethrough. An end plug member is matably received in the end portion of the tubular member and is sized to prevent withdrawal of each tube member from its respective retaining sleeve. A central portion of the tubular member between the end loops may be configured in a central loop received by a central sleeve. A central bead may be received on the bight of the central loop to prevent its withdrawal from the central sleeve.

Abstract: An eyeglass frame holder having a quick release two piece band with mushroomed shaped flexible tips mountable upon each of two bands, or eyeglass supports which tips are interconnected with eyeglass temple stems or supports through a hole in each of the stems, together with a C-shaped resilient clasp for making surface contact with the tips. The two pieces of the band are connected behind the eyeglass wearer's head with adjustable self-engaging, removable gripping pads (velcro).

Abstract: The device comprises a sleeve element locatable on a portion of each eyeglasses leg coaxially therewith, and a half-tubular element provided with a plate-like end for connection to the end of the strap, said half-tubular element having an inside profile that conforms with the outside profile of said sleeve whereover it is engageable by snap action.

Abstract: The present invention provides an eyeglass retainer headband comprised of a tube of pliable material having two open ends, a tube segment at each end being turned into itself to form a double walled end portion of somewhat reduced inner diameter and increased stiffness while also providing a smoothly contoured or finished edge around each opening of the tube to prevent fraying of the fabric. Although it is presently preferred that the tube be made of a knitted fabric, the invention is not restricted to such material and may extend to other pliable elastic materials.

Abstract: A temple end piece for a temple of a spectacle frame is comprised of a first segment running essentially straight in the longitudinal direction of the temple, a connecting segment extending downward from the first segment, and a fitting segment intended for fitting on the head and/or behind the ear. The longitudinal fitting segment is borne and supported by the connecting segment, whereby this support is achieved at the longitudinal middle or at the lower end or in the region between the longitudinal middle and the lower end of the fitting segment, so that a least the upper half of the fitting segment projects freely upward to the first segment and can be deflected elastically in the direction toward the connecting segment. This capability of an elastic deflection is furnished by a suitable choice of material, as, for example, a suitable plastic material, and/or specially designed elastic regions.

Abstract: Spectacle frame with a removable elastic securing band which attaches to the temples of the frame. Each of the two temples of the spectacle frame has a hole in the vicinity of the temple end on the ear side, of which at least one extends substantially in the longitudinal direction of the temple. The securing band, realized as an elastic cord, has at least at one end an end enlargment. The securing band is brought through the holes, where the enlarged end bears against the hole end of the hole of the first temple and the securing band is brought through the hole, extending essentially in the longitudinal direction of the temple, of the second temple in a self-locking manner.

The straps are all constructed in a preadjusted length and are made of a slightly elastic material in order to provide a secure fit when used with different style eyeglasses and different head sizes.
