Abstract: Various embodiments of the present invention provide systems and methods for storing electronic documents. In particular, various embodiments provide systems and methods that use profiles defining one or more attributes to generate file names and folders for storing the electronic documents. Further embodiments provide systems and methods for storing one or more records related to the electronic documents in one or more tables based on the profiles. In various embodiments, these records are used to manage the storage of the documents in the system and to help in locating and retrieving the documents from the system.

Abstract: An image ordering system includes an order management apparatus and an image providing apparatus. The order management apparatus includes a first image storage section, an order receiving section which receives an order for printout of images, and an order information transmitting section which transmits order information to a contact address associated with ordered images. The image providing apparatus includes a second image storage section, an order information receiving section which receives the order information, an image searching section which searches the images stored in the second image storage section for images related to images indicated by the order information, and an image releasing section which releases the images found as a result of the search upon receiving a release permission.

Abstract: In an image formation system comprising a data processing device and an image formation device, the data processing device includes: a print data storing unit which stores print data in a portable storage medium; an image data generating unit which generates image data to be displayed by the image formation device in regard to the print data; and an image data storing unit which stores the image data in the portable storage medium while associating the image data with the print data. The image formation device includes an image formation unit which forms an image on a print medium based on print data stored in the portable storage medium while being associated with image data corresponding to the image displayed by a display unit and selected by a selection unit when printing is requested regarding the image.

Abstract: An image reading device is provided. The image reading device includes: a reading unit which reads an original while the reading unit and the original are relatively moved, to produce a plurality of image data based on a plurality of producing conditions, respectively, in response to a reading command input one time, the plurality of producing conditions being different mutually; and a storing unit which stores the plurality of image data produced by the reading unit in a same storing destination.

Abstract: A printed material is electrically read, and electrical data of the printed material is input as a reference comparison image. The feature amount of a region to be processed containing a page image contained in the reference comparison image is extracted. A target comparison image corresponding to the reference comparison image is retrieved from a storage medium by using the extracted feature amount. The retrieved image is processed.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for matching a visual media object to an advertisement are provided. Embodiments of the present invention include receiving un-categorized visual media objects, automatically categorizing received visual media objects into subject-matter categories using image recognition technology, and retrieving advertisements assigned to the same subject-matter category for presentation in association therewith.

Abstract: A method and system for managing facsimile (fax) data in an integrated manner. The system includes an integrated fax server, and a fax terminal configured to transmit and receive fax data via a first communication network and to transmit both the transmitted and received fax data to the integrated fax server via a second communication network. The integrated fax server stores fax data received from the fax terminal in a database. The fax terminal includes a fax machine connector configured to receive fax data from a fax machine, a first communication network connector configured to transmit and receive fax data via a first communication network, and a server interface unit configured to transmit fax data to the integrated fax server. Accordingly, the integrated fax server manages transmitted and received fax documents with increased efficiency and security. Thus, the difficulty of managing fax documents due to spacial restriction is diminished.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing devices with job history information on image forming jobs are provided, in which job history information corresponding to image forming jobs of the devices are generated. The job history information is transmitted to any device selected from the devices.

Abstract: Providing an updated version of a printed document comprising storing data for generating an original version of a printed document, including a two-dimensional barcode that contains: data identifying the original version of the document, as well as at least a portion of the data for generating the original version of the document. The invention also enables the updating of the stored data so that a later version of the printed document may be generated including a new barcode for identifying and generating the later version. The barcode of a version of the document is scanned to determine if the scanned barcode identifies the later version of the document. If the barcode does not identify the later version, then the later version of the document is generated and printed. If the barcode does identify that the scanned document is the later version, the document is not printed and the user may be notified that the scanned version is the latest version.

Upon transmission instruction, an appropriate transmission method is selected by the receiver, then document data is converted into data of an appropriate data format, and the converted data is transmitted. Abstract: A network scanner, communication protocols, and client and server programs and are provided which provide an improved way to transmit legally binding documents, obviating the need for outmoded, legacy fax transmissions. Using the network scanner, a document may be scanned and transferred directly into any shared folder inbox residing on any computer attached to the Internet. Enhanced server systems and network communications and messaging protocols are provided that are more practical to use than email for sending documents such as executed legal documents or other documents requiring robust integrity and authenticatability. Abstract: A method or corresponding apparatus for remote transmission of a negotiable instrument. In an example embodiment, the process provides a carrier that secures a negotiable instrument. Next, the process creates a unique identifier, associated with the carrier, and generates an electronic image of the negotiable instrument. After generating the electronic image, the process transmits the electronic image of the negotiable instrument and the unique identifier to a remote location. The negotiable instrument may be transmitted via a fax, a scanner, a device designed to transmit electronic data, other image device compatible with ITU-T recommendations T.30 or T.4, or combination thereof. The process may also verify the negotiable instrument has a valid endorsement, verify image quality of the electronic image to ensure compliance with financial industry standards, or validate any received security information.

Abstract: Presented are techniques for extracting metadata from a digitally scanned document. The text of the digitally scanned document is obtained and a first algorithm is provided to identify various numbers found within the text, determine which numbers correspond to the page numbers of the document, and associate the determined numbers with the pages of the document. Furthermore, a second algorithm is provided that uses the text to determine the page type of the pages within the document. The second algorithm is configured to determine if a page is a table of contents page, an index page, or a title page.

Abstract: A method of scanning a set of documents in a container such as a file folder or storage box where the container contains a unique label containing identification associated with the documents in the container. The label comprises both alphanumeric characters and color information where each character is associated with a particular color. By scanning the container and analyzing the image of the container the unique identification can be retrieved with increased reliability by using both the color and alphanumeric information.

Abstract: This invention allows the user to select files to be printed from arbitrary folders, easily designate a folder selected in the past, and confirm data files in the folder, thereby improving the operability of selecting a file to be printed. For this purpose, the display window has a folder view display area for displaying the tree structure of folders, and a file view display area for displaying a list of image data files stored in a folder selected in the folder view display area. When a new folder is selected in the folder view display area, a path representing the location position of the folder is added to the folder list. When a file having a print count of “1” or more exists in the file view display area, the file name and print count of the file are added to a file list associated with a folder list. When a selected-folder view display button is clicked, a list of folders registered in the folder list is displayed.

Abstract: An image reading apparatus including a first image reader for reading the front side of document, and a second image reader configured to read the reverse side of document. The apparatus also includes a storage device to store first image data read by the first image reader and second image data read by the second image reader, and a writing controller for writing the first image data and the second image data in parallel to the storage device. A reading controller then reads the first image data and the second image data sequentially from the storage device, and an image processor processes the first and second image data. An image converter then converts the format of the first image data and/or the second image data to be the same.

Abstract: An embodiment of the present invention includes a fax communication system for communicating fax information transmitted from a sending fax device to a fax recipient through a packet switching network. The sending fax device includes a data pump for modulating and demodulating fax information and a protocol subsystem for encoding and decoding the modulated fax information. The fax sending fax device modulates the fax information prior to transmission thereof. At least one access server is coupled between the sending fax device and the fax recipient and within the packet switching network At least one of the access servers receives modulated fax information from the sending fax device and demodulates the received fax information.
