  • Patent number: 10643415
Abstract: The disclosure provides a system for delivering packages by a delivery person in a location with multiple recipients comprising a plurality of lockers, each locker having an interior space, a door, a locker identifier, and a locking portion associated with each door. A central control unit comprises a first input device configured to allow the delivery person to designate the number of lockers to be opened, a second input device adapted to read the package identifier and a locker identifier, and a controller configured to deactivate the locking portions on the designated lockers. Upon delivery, the controller deactivates the number of locking portions equal to the number of designated lockers, and at a location remote from the central control unit, the second input device reads a package and a locker identifier for a designated locker and transmits the package and locker information to the central control unit.

The method detects a first facsimile transmission error using an arbitrarily named “first” facsimile machine (which can be a sending facsimile machine or a receiving facsimile machine). The facsimile transmission error occurs during a first facsimile transmission sent from the sending facsimile machine to the receiving facsimile machine. Upon detecting the first facsimile transmission error, the sending facsimile machine automatically contacts a service center computer. The service center computer automatically connects the sending facsimile machine to the receiving facsimile machine through the service center computer. Then, the sending facsimile machine sends a test facsimile transmission to the receiving facsimile machine through the service center computer.

Abstract: A method for facsimile transmission over a packet network includes establishing a facsimile call between first and second facsimile terminals in accordance with a facsimile protocol, using a facsimile gateway to convey communications between the terminals over the packet network. The gateway awaits the arrival of a signal conveyed over the packet network from the first terminal, to be transmitted from the gateway to the second terminal as provided by the protocol, and it transmits a fill page to the second terminal if the signal does not arrive within a time limit determined in accordance with the protocol. Upon receiving the signal, the gateway transmits the signal to the second terminal after transmitting the fill page.

Abstract: A conventional data communication apparatus cannot set different receiving capacity for each type of received image data. To solve this problem, a data communication apparatus according to this invention notifies a partner apparatus of the receiving capacity in the normal reception mode of the apparatus at the start of communication. If high-quality transmission is designated for image data transmitted from the partner apparatus, the data communication apparatus determines whether the image data exceeds its own receiving capacity in the high-quality reception mode. If the image data does not exceed the receiving capacity in the high-quality reception mode, the data communication apparatus performs high-quality reception/recording; otherwise, notifies the partner apparatus of its own receiving capacity in the high-quality reception mode.

Abstract: When a holder of an ID card approaches an image formation instructing device for sending an image forming instruction to an image forming apparatus, an ID code stored in a RF-ID element built in the ID card is read by a RF communication device, an image forming operation is executed, and the number of sheets for image formation is counted by counting means. Further, the counted number of sheets for image formation is associated with an ID code having predetermined bearing on the personal ID code read by the RF communication device and thereafter stored and held in a number-of-sheets file. Thus, the number of sheets for image formation is managed without preparing a key counter, a key card, etc. and without special operation.

Abstract: An image transmission apparatus is provided with a FAX modem, an encoding/decoding section, a digitizer-integrated LCD, encoded image data memory, original image data memory, and additional image data memory. Original image data received by the FAX modem are temporarily stored in the encoded image data memory, and the original image data are decoded by the encoding/decoding section. The thus-decoded original image is stored in the original image data memory. An image of the thus-stored original image data is displayed on the digitizer-integrated LCD. An operator draws an additional image on the digitizer-integrated LCD. Data of the thus-drawn additional image are stored in the additional image data memory. The thus-stored additional image data are encoded by the encoding/decoding section, and the thus-encoded additional image data are temporarily stored in the encoded image data memory. Then, the encoded additional image data are sent by the FAX modem.

Abstract: Pixel information and control information transmitted by a facsimile machine 1a is received by a procedure controlling circuit 13 having a MODEM 13a for facsimile machines. A facsimile procedure controller 14 decodes the pixel information and the control information. A connection/transfer controller 15 edits the decoded information and produces a control packet and a pixel packet. The control packet and the pixel packet are output to a local area network (LAN) 4 via a LAN controller 17 and a LAN control circuit 18. When receiving a facsimile, the control packet signal transmitted via the LAN 4 is converted into pixel control information by the connection/transfer controller 15, and the pixel control information is supplied to the facsimile procedure controller 14. The connection/transfer controller 15 also converts the received pixel packet signal into pixel information. The pixel information is temporarily stored in a memory 16.

Abstract: A self-diagnosis method for a facsimile device and a facsimile device to perform the same. The facsimile device has a modem and a line interface unit (LIU) that connects the modem to an external line. The method includes determining whether a communication path is in a normal state or in an abnormal state according to the detection of a dial tone transmitted from an outside, and/or determining whether the modem is in a normal state or in an abnormal state according to whether a diagnosing tone signal generated in the facsimile device is normally received. Accordingly, the self-diagnosis method self-diagnoses errors in the peripheral environment of the facsimile device without communicating with another facsimile device. These errors may be errors on external lines, or errors in the facsimile device, e.g., errors in a modem.

Abstract: A system and method for facilitating facsimile transmissions has one or more store and forward facilities, each associated with a plurality of subscriber facsimile machines, typically coupled over the switched telephone network. The store and forward facilities include a computer for controlling operations and mass data storage equipment. A subscriber to the system delivers an outgoing facsimile message to the store and forward facility with which it is associated, which records the fax message together with data as to originating facsimile machine and destination facsimile machine. The store and forward facility then delivers the facsimile message to the intended receiver facsimile machine, either directly or through another store and forward facility. If unsuccessful on an initial attempt, the store and forward facility periodically retrys to send the facsimile message.
