Abstract: A light-channeling apparatus for a scanning module is provided. The scanning module uses a first light-guiding tube to channel light from a light source to a scanning region and uses a second light-guiding tube to channel light reflected from the scanning region to a light passage slit on the body casing of the scanning module. As a result, very little light from the light source is dispersed and external light is kept out from the transmission pathway.

Abstract: An image reading apparatus accurately determines the positions of image forming mirrors formed with an off-axis reflecting surface, while enabling any thermal expansion caused by a rise in temperature due to a rise in the surrounding temperature to be absorbed. Each image forming mirror formed with an off-axis reflecting surface comprises respective and independent units for determining the positions in the longitudinal direction, in the lateral position, and in the direction orthogonal to the reflecting surface. Holes with which the longitudinal position determining units and the lateral position determining units engage have gaps in the directions orthogonal to the position determining directions to absorb the thermal expansion caused by a rise in the temperature of the image forming mirror when the position determining units engage with the holes.

Abstract: A scanner using a self-collection light source, is composed of a light source either with its tube walls coated with a layer of total reflective material, or a tube wall made to have a converging lens-like wall, so that the light source itself has built-in light converging ability. The original scattered light is first collected into a light beam before emitted to the scan line on the document. Thus, the light flux on the scan line can be substantially enhanced. Furthermore, by including the auxiliary light sources on both sides of this kind of main light source with self-collection capability, associating with a light intensity adjusting control circuitry, The light flux density on the two sides of the main light source is improved, so that it effectively improves the flux uniformity of light incident on the light detector.

Abstract: The invention discloses an improved structure of light-source module, which arranges a reflection piece of light-source module in an image picking-up device of optical scanner. The invention applies the design of improved reflection piece to generate a compensatory function to the light source to reduce the waste formed by the light dissipation, which will be gathered by the reflection piece and be reflected to the document to be scanned. With the design of appropriate angle and position, the reflection piece may completely reflect the light onto the document to be scanned for obtaining a preferable quality of scanned image. Wherein, the reflection piece may be designed as two pieces, one of which may reach the function of light compensation, or one reflection piece may be designed as two reflection parts, one of which may reach the function of light compensation.

LED chips are applied for a light source, and are arranged by color so as to form substantially straight lines on an aluminum substrate, at a high density. Emitted light is made to be incident on a photographic film via an acrylic block. Since light emitted from the LED chips 64 has a high color temperature and includes a large amount of light of short wavelengths, an SN ratio of a read image is excellent and the image can be read at high speed. Abstract: An installation for increasing the usable scanning range along the axial direction of a light source. The installation includes a linear light source and a light-channeling panel. The linear light source has a light axis whose brightness near the mid-portion is higher than the brightness level on either side. The light-channeling panel is adjacent to the linear light source and is capable of concentrating more light in the end sections rather than the mid-portion of the light axis. The light-channeling panel is made from a plurality of panels, each made from materials having different light transparencies. The light transparency of the light-channeling panel near the central section of the light axis is lower than the light transparency at the end sections of the light axis. Hence, after light from the linear light source has passed through the light-channeling panel, a band of light having a more homogenous brightness level than the linear light source is produced.

Abstract: A scanner has an imaging device which is constituted by a cold-cathode tube, includes a light source for irradiating light to a reflection surface of a reference white plate and a plurality of pixels arranged in one line, and detects light reflected on the reflection surface by the respective pixels, and has a light source stability determination unit which determines whether or not light amounts obtained by the one line of pixels from the light source are approximately uniform. Only in a case where the light source stability determination unit determines that the light amounts obtained by the one line of pixels from the light source are approximately uniform, the scanner reads the reference white plate to calculate correction values for the respective pixels and reads a manuscript.

Abstract: Stimulating rays containing red light and infrared rays are reflected from a reference plate, which has reflection characteristics to the infrared rays approximately identical with those of a stimulable phosphor sheet, and which is free from characteristics of emitting light when being exposed to the stimulating rays. The stimulating rays reflected from the reference plate are received with a light receiving device via a cut-off filter for transmitting light emitted by the sheet and blocking the red light, and an infrared ray image signal representing the infrared ray components of the stimulating rays is acquired. The infrared ray image signal is subtracted from a radiation image signal representing a radiation image stored on the stimulable phosphor sheet.

Abstract: This invention relates to an image reading apparatus which eliminates color misregistration upon reading in the sub-scanning direction, which occurs due to different afterglow or persistence characteristics of the respective colors of a light source upon executing the light quantity control of the light source for illuminating an original. Since the light quantity control of the light source is divisionally done a plurality of times in one accumulation period of a solid-state image sensing element, any deviation of the center of gravity in the quantity of light from the center C of one accumulation period can be minimized, and the color misregistration can be eliminated remarkably.
