Patent number: 7466875Abstract: Legibility of text in an image of a page is determined by comparing a measure of the text in the page image with a measure of the page image itself. In one aspect, a measure of the text in the page image may be the height of a line of text, while the measure derived from the page image may be the height of the page image. A text-to-page height ratio is determined and compared to one or more thresholds for determining legibility. In another aspect of the invention, a measure of the text in a page image is obtained by measuring the word density in the page image, while the measure derived from the page image comprises compressing the page image and determining the size of the compressed image file. Legibility is then determined by comparing the measure of word density with the compressed image file size.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 2004Date of Patent: December 16, 2008Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Hilliard Siegel, David Chick

Patent number: 7460130Abstract: Image acquisition refers to the taking of digital images of multiple views of the object of interest. In the processing step, the constituent images collected in the image acquisition step are selected and further processed to form a multimedia sequence which allows for the interactive view of the object. Furthermore, during the Processing phase, the entire multimedia sequence is compressed and digitally signed to authorize it viewing. In the Storage and Caching Step, the resulting multimedia sequence is sent to a storage servers. In the Transmission and viewing step, a Viewer (individual) may request a particular multi-media sequence, for example, by selecting a particular hyperlink within a browser, which initiates the downloading, checking of authorization to view, decompression and interactive rendering of the multi-media sequence on the end-users terminal, which could be any one of a variety of devices, including a desktop PC, or a hand-held device.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 2001Date of Patent: December 2, 2008Assignee: Advantage 3D LLCInventor: Marcos Salganicoff

Patent number: 7327492Abstract: In a black character detection processing, RGB data read from a line buffer is converted into YIQ data. For a subject pixel, a subject area centered on the subject pixel is set, and a judgment pixel that has the lowest brightness in the subject area is set. Then, a judgment area is set as being centered on the judgment pixel. If the absolute values of the averages of chroma components I and Q in the judgment area are both less than the corresponding thresholds T1 and T2, the subject pixel is determined as being an achromatic pixel. Black codes are added to fine-line pixels and edge pixels if the fine-line pixels and edge pixels are determined as being achromatic. In a frame-cropping copy mode, a user inputs, through the user interface, a set of geometric parameters corresponding to a selected scan area of an original. The zone-creating unit, electrically connected to the user interface, receives the set of geometric parameters and creates a cropping frame corresponding to the set of geometric parameters. The optical scanning module scans the selected scan area of the original, according to the cropping frame, to generate a cropping scan signal. The processor, electrically connected to the user interface, the zone-creating unit and the optical scanning module, controls operations of the user interface, the zone-creating unit and the optical scanning module, and processes the cropping scan signal into a cropping print signal.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2004Date of Patent: March 13, 2007Assignee: Avision Inc.Inventor: Seifor Hsu

Patent number: 7170638Abstract: Image processing according to a sensation expression can be carried out regardless of differences in output media or viewing conditions. An editing instruction for image data is generated by editing instruction means in a personal computer according to a sensation expression such as “sharpness” or “softness”. At this time, the content of image processing is corrected and according to a characteristic of a monitor of the personal computer by input condition setting means and displayed on the monitor. The result of the editing instruction is transferred to a laboratory as a general sensation expression script. In the laboratory, image processing is carried out on image data according to the general sensation expression script. At this time, output condition setting means changes the degree of image processing according to the characteristic of an output medium for processed image data and the like. The processed image data are then output by output means to the predetermined output medium.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 2004Date of Patent: January 30, 2007Assignee: Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.Inventor: Wataru Ito

Patent number: 7065259Abstract: The present invention provides an image processor and an image processing method wherein a specific image such as an image of which the printing is prohibited can be recognized at high speed and in addition, with high precision. A rendering command analysis unit passes a rendering object to any of a recognition unit for a raster image, a recognition unit for graphics and a recognition unit for a character according to the type of the rendering object in the rendering command and tries to recognize a specific image. The result of recognition by each recognition unit is passed to a recognition determination unit and it is synthetically determined based upon these results of recognition whether the specific image exists or not. Even if the specific image is formed by dividing into plural types of rendering objects, the specific image can be recognized by such recognition processing.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 2001Date of Patent: June 20, 2006Assignee: Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd.Inventors: Takeshi Kunimasa, Toru Hada, Kenichi Ishida, Masao Morita, Yozo Yamaguchi, Masami Kurata, Hiroshi Sekine, Hiroyuki Kawano, Takanobu Otsubo

Patent number: 7061642Abstract: A printing system simultaneously prints both images and related information which is recorded together with the images. The print output may be unsuitable for use, depending on the combination of the image layout and positions where the related information is printed. To obviate this problem, an image processing apparatus lays out, on a recording medium, a plurality of images and information related to each of the images. The image processing apparatus has an image layout changing unit and an image layout controlling unit. The image layout changing unit changes a layout method for laying out the plurality of images. The image layout controlling unit determines, in accordance with the layout method changed by the layout changing unit, whether the related information is to be located within or outside areas of the associated images.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 2001Date of Patent: June 13, 2006Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Atsushi Kumagai

Patent number: 7038810Abstract: In general, it is difficult for the end user to implement a simulate illustration process for an image, since manual setups of the process are complicated and require skills. Also, there is room for improvement in terms of image quality. In this invention, the luminance histogram of an original image is generated, the brightness of that image is detected based on the histogram, and the image undergoes a filter process corresponding to the detected brightness, thus easily performing the simulate illustration process using bright tone for the image. Especially, since a filter is set for rasterized image data in correspondence with the number of lines of the data to be processed, an effective simulate illustration process can be implemented.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1999Date of Patent: May 2, 2006Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Manabu Yamazoe, Yasutomo Suzuki, Katsuhiko Anzai, Koji Nagata, Takayuki Suzuki
