Abstract: Various embodiments herein relate to networks of electrochromic windows. The networks may be configured in particular ways to minimize the likelihood that the windows on the network draw more power than can be provided. The network may include particular hardware components that provide additional power to windows as needed. The network may also be configured to adjust how the windows therein transition to prevent overloading the network. The techniques described herein can be used to design networks of electrochromic windows that are undersized when considering the amount of power that would be needed to simultaneously transition all the windows on the network using normal transition parameters, while still allowing simultaneous transitions to occur.

The combination of the electrically controlled polarizer unit and analyzer unit make it simple and fast to reconfigure the modulation described by the Jones matrix of the spatial light modulator. A particular optical processing objective is provided to the controller. The controller performs calculations and supplies control signals to the polarizer unit, the analyzer unit, and the spatial light modulator in order to obtain the optical processing objective.

  • Patent number: 5859735
Abstract: An optical element (8) is provided on a substrate, for example a display screen (3) of a display device (1), which optical element comprises a light-transmitting layer whose transmission in the visible region varies in response to a change in ambient light. The optical element (8) is characterized in that it further comprises a colored coating which selectively absorbs light in the visible region. The colored coating has such an absorption characteristic that the color coordinates (x;y) of the combination of the light-transmitting layer and the colored coating vary in such a way, as a result of a variation in ambient light, that a line, which interconnects the color coordinates, is partly situated in an elliptical area with achromatic point (0.333;0.333) in the color triangle, which ellipse comprises a major axis and a minor axis, which major axis terminates in (0.30;0.28) and (0.36;0.38) and the eccentricity of which ranges between 2 and 3.

  • Patent number: 5617243
Abstract: An electro-optical system such as an image display system and a method of displaying images are described. Laser beams of three primary colors are emitted from three lasers in a time sharing mode. These laser beams are directed onto the same optical path and then separately given optical information from the same optical modulating device in accordance with images of the respective primary colors. By this structure, displacement of constituent color images can be effectively avoided.

  • Patent number: 5218469
Abstract: A technique for reducing interpixel crosstalk by selecting particular illumination conditions and thus tailoring a portion of the spatial frequency response of an optical image bar. A desirable frequency response is one that approximates sin(.pi.Pf) for absolute values of f less than about 1/P, where f is the spatial frequency and P is the minimum pixel pitch. A skew angle of zero and a grazing angle that is approximately twice the interorder diffraction angle provides the desired cutoff of the response for absolute values of f above about 1/P. The desired frequency response for absolute values of f near zero can be achieved by selecting appropriate values for other physical parameters.

  • Patent number: 5170281
Abstract: A spatial light modulator includes an electro-optic crystal plate and a mesh electrode for capturing secondary electrons emitted from the crystal plate. Primary electrons carrying an image corresponding to an input optical image are incident on the front surface of the crystal plate to write a charge pattern thereon. In a writing operation, a dc voltage and a ramp voltage is applied to the mesh electrode and the back surface of the crystal plate, respectively. The dc voltage and a variation range of the ramp voltage are shifted to obtain a desired input/output characteristic of the device. Alternatively, a decreasing rate of the ramp voltage is changed to obtain a desired characteristic.

  • Patent number: 5115228
Abstract: The present invention accomplishes the above objects by employing a display having the capability to emit light and form images viewable from both the front and back of the display. The invention also shutters the images displayed on the front and back of the display so that the images can be correctly displayed depending on the viewpoint of the viewer. Text and images displayed such that they are seen from both the front and back of the display appear differently to the front and rear viewer. Electronic shutters are placed between the display and both the front and rear viewers so that they can be flashed on and off fast enough to provide a stable image appearing to each viewer. The shutters also flash slow enough so that display data can be rewritten to provide each viewer with a correct image. The correct image can be either the corrected image of that image seen by the opposing viewer, or a completely separate image. In this way, simultaneous images appear to both the front and rear viewer.
