Abstract: A device used as a toy or novelty item has a handle and one or more LEDs that are powered by a stepper motor that is configured to operate as a generator. The stepper motor is embedded within a protective housing element and is rotatably connected with the handle. The housing element extends from the handle and rotates with the stepper motor about the hand-held handle to generate electric current. The LEDs are electrically connected to the stepper motor and extend along the housing element. The device may be used as a hand-held toy so that the LEDs illuminate when the element is twirled or spun relative to the handle. The device may also be used as the handle of a jump rope. When the jump rope is twirled or spun between the handles, the stepper motors generate current which illuminates the LEDs to create an entertaining effect.

Abstract: A light fixture comprising a rotatable housing, a mounting yoke and a mounting fixture for securing the housing directly to the top of a hollow post to permit the housing to be directed straight down or at a tilt angle to either side. The housing includes integral or insertable axle portions that protrude from either side of the housing. The top of each side of the yoke includes a support casting with an opening for receiving the respective protruding axle portions of the housing. Matching indicia on the end of at least one of the axle portions and the receiving casting hub provide degree of tilt information. Wiring from the power source coming out of the top of the post progresses through one or more appropriate channels in the yoke, through the appropriate casting and through an accommodated protruding axle portion. The yoke is preferably comprised of at least one tubular member.

  • Patent number: 6334699
Abstract: A light pattern controller provides a pattern of light to a collimator. The light pattern controller includes a beam deflector that sweeps a circular pattern with a radius that is directly proportional to the rotational speed of the beam deflector. Alternatively, the light pattern controller includes a two-dimensional scanning galvanometer that sweeps out the circular pattern or a liquid crystal shutter. The pattern of light is collimated and reflected such that it is substantially parallel to the optical axis of an imaging system. A focusing element redirects the collimated light pattern onto a sample part at an angle of incidence which is a function of the radius of the light column.

  • Patent number: 6328460
Abstract: The invention is a portable worklight that includes a housing, bulb, support base and a translucent lens covering a light emitting opening defined by the housing. Use of the translucent lens eliminates glare and shadowing by diffusing or randomly scattering light emitted from the bulb. In addition, the housing and support base may be configured such that the housing is rotatably mounted to the support base and the support base is further configured to allow the housing to be folded within the support base. This reduces the overall size of the light when it is placed in a stored position. The light may further include a male electrical jack that is used to provided power to the device by coupling an electrical cord to the jack.
