Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided that can be utilized for accurate pre-aiming and installation of devices. The devices are pre-set to an aiming orientation relative to a universal reference plane. The reference plane is then correlated to a feature of a pole, tower, or other structure that will be used to elevate or suspend the devices. A position sensing subsystem is utilized to inform a worker when each device is correctly angularly oriented to the reference plane. The worker simply moves the mounting structure for the device to the correct three-dimensional angular orientation, uses the position sensor to confirm the correct orientation to within a highly accurate margin of error, and either locks the device in that orientation or marks the orientation. The pole, tower, or other elevating structure is then preliminarily erected at its pre-designed location and pre-designed rotational orientation with the pre-aimed devices.

Abstract: A reading light incorporates a light fitting containing a light source, a light main body and a spring. The cover of the light fitting includes an outer surface formed of a part of a spherical surface. The body of the light fitting is formed of a metal, and includes a back surface formed of another part of the spherical surface. The light main body includes a receiving/guiding portion that supports the outer surface. The receiving/guiding portion supports the light fitting so that the light fitting is rotatable, thereby enabling the direction of light emitted from the light fitting to be changed. The light fitting is fitted in the light main body by pressing the back surface using the spring. Either the receiving/guiding portion or cover is formed of a metal, and the other is formed of a resin.

Abstract: A luminaire and lighting assembly is provided having a ceiling pan and a light assembly supported on the ceiling pan. The light assembly is rotatable and movable in a lateral direction on the ceiling pan to provide adjustment of the light assembly with respect to the ceiling pan. The light assembly includes an aiming device which allows the lamp to be adjusted about a vertical axis and about a horizontal axis for adjustment of the lamp. The aiming assembly includes a locking assembly which fixes the position of the aiming assembly to simultaneously prevent rotation about the vertical axis and about the horizontal axis.

  • Patent number: 7993028
Abstract: A backlight module includes a case, a lamp, and a lamp clamping mechanism. The case has a bottom plate. The lamp is installed inside the case. The lamp clamping mechanism is connected to the bottom plate. The lamp clamping mechanism includes a base, a second clamping part, and a driving part. A first clamping part is disposed on the base. The second clamping part is installed on the base in a movable manner. The second clamping part is used for clamping the lamp with the first clamping part cooperatively when the second clamping part is moved to a first position so as to fix the lamp on the bottom plate. The driving part is pivotally disposed through the base. The driving part is used for rotating relative to the base so as to push the second clamping part from a second position to the first position on the base.

  • Patent number: 7934854
Abstract: A light fixture (100) comprises a base (101) and at least a first arm (102) having a first end (103) that couples to this base. A housing (105) then couples to the second end (203) of this first arm and can serve to house both a light source (901) (such that emanated light will tend to be directed towards a primary area of coverage) and an animate object detector (902) (such that the latter will be aimed towards, and will tend to be sensitive to, objects that move within the primary area of coverage). By one approach, this arm couples to the base and/or the housing in a manner that permits an end user to adjust a position of the housing with respect to the base without requiring any hand tools. The housing can comprise a heat sink (906) if desired.

  • Patent number: 7934860
Abstract: A lighting fixture includes a light unit, a supporting frame pivotally coupling with the light unit, and an angle adjustment arrangement including a first gear member provided at the light housing, and a second gear member provided at the supporting arm. The first gear member has a first teething face to match and engage with a second teething face of the gear member. When the first gear member is moved apart from the second gear member, the light housing is adapted to pivotally move with respect to the supporting frame so as to selectively adjust the projecting angle of the light unit. After the projecting angle of the light unit is set, the first gear member is moved back to re-engage with the second gear member to lock up the light unit at the projecting angle.

  • Patent number: 7918586
Abstract: An apparatus, method, and system of aiming lighting fixtures. One aspect of the invention mounts a substantially collimated light source on a lighting fixture. The direction of the substantially collimated light source is fixed in a known relationship to the aiming direction of the lighting fixture. By finding the substantially collimated light source either by direct viewing or in a mirror, the aiming direction of the lighting fixture can be derived by using the known the relationship between the substantially collimated light source and the aiming direction of the fixture. Thus, the aiming direction of the fixture can be derived without operating the lighting fixture and can be derived even at relatively remote locations from the lighting fixture. The apparatus and method can be used on one fixture or a plurality of fixtures. It can also be used on one fixture of an array of fixtures to aim the entire array.

Abstract: To aim to provide a simple high-pressure discharge lamp apparatus. The lamp apparatus suppresses local temperature increase in an arc tube during lighting, and uniforms temperature in the arc tube. A lamp is built into a reflector so as to form a lamp unit such that a central axis of the lamp coincides with an optical axis of the reflector. A pair of rotating bodies with a fixed interval therebetween each has a circular outer circumferential surface, and the optical axis of the reflector coincides with a central axis of the circumferential surface of the rotating bodies. A pair of electrodes is electrically connected to the circumferential surface of each rotating body, and the rotating bodies are placed on two rotating rollers arranged in parallel. A drive motor drives the lamp unit in a fixed direction on the rotating rollers. Feeding members feed the rotating bodies with power.
