Abstract: A lamp for use on a table or a floor comprises a base, an intermediate spacer coupled to the base and rotatable with respect thereto, a light source, and a shade disposed over and about the light source. The shade has a surface shaped to insinuate a lipstick and additionally has a partially translucent portion acting to diffuse light emanating from the lamp. The lamp operates such that rotation of the intermediate spacer causes the lamp shade to move along a linear axis. A method for adjusting the light pattern emanating from such a lamp further comprises energizing the light source, rotating the intermediate spacer, and moving the shade along the linear axis while maintaining the light source energized.

  • Patent number: 6824302
Abstract: Due to an effect of a solenoid of a moving mechanism, when a valve and a shutter are positioned at a first position, a light source is positioned at a first light source position and a shutter is in a state of closing a window. A lighting luminous flux from a light source is reflected by a reflector so as to be irradiated as a first light distribution pattern. Thus, a part of the lighting luminous flux is introduced to the reflector from the open window. Therefore, it is possible to effectively utilize the lighting luminous flux emitted from one valve in correspondence to a light distribution pattern.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for storing light in which light from a light source passes through a rotary chopping disk and through an entrance slot in a light box where the chopped light is allowed to accumulate over time within a closed portion of the light box. After the storage process is stopped, sometime later, which may be a matter of days, the light source in the box is turned on and the light exiting the light box is detected, with the amount of output light increased over the amount of input light due to the storage of light energy within the light box. The amount of light stored in this manner is proportional to the pulse repetition frequency of the light pulses, with the spinning disk having apertures therethrough. The pulse repetition frequency may be multiplied through the utilization of cascaded rotating apertured disks positioned along the light path between the light source and the entrance slot of the light box.

  • Patent number: 6641291
Abstract: A vehicle headlamp includes a moveable shade. The front end of the shade body of the movable shade is formed into a substantially semispherical shape. The maximum radius of the pivotal locus of the shade body is smaller than conventional shades that have a front end portion formed into a cylindrical shape. Further, a slot is found in the front end portion that extends along the pivotal face of the movable shade. Therefore, the shade body and the discharge bulb do not interfere with each other even when the movable shade is caused to pivot, and the maximum radius of the pivotal locus of the shade body is further reduced. Thus, the shade body of a fixed shade can be smaller in size so that a greater space can be secured for use in disposing the fixed shade within an allowable range that refrains from unnecessarily shading the light reflected from a reflector.

Abstract: A reflector holder is designed to retain a reflector that has a hole in one of its ends. The holder includes a base with a quick-connect connector extending from the base. In one version, the quick-connect connector includes a semi-arcuate flange member that extends from the base. The member has a pair of edges extending between the base and the outward end of the flange member and a mid-portion between the edges. The member also has a concave side and a convex side. A connection post extends from the mid-portion of the concave side of the end of the member away from the base, and terminates in an outward end. A pair of lock ears extend from the outward end of the connection post, with one ear extending toward each of the edges of the flange member. Each lock ear terminates in a locking end that is spaced from one of the edges so as to define a gap between the locking end and edge.

  • Patent number: 6513952
Abstract: A high lumen output illumination device includes a light source secured within a socket and a reflector. The reflector redirects light emanating from the source along a direction of interest. The socket is mobile relative to the reflector and varies the directional output of the device. The socket holds the light source substantially vertical regardless of the relative angle of the reflector. The reflector includes a channel through which the socket moves. The device may also be inverted, keeping the light source substantially vertical, to give a range of illumination complementary to the range offered by tilting the reflector.

Abstract: Luminous intensity distribution patterns of a sub reflector and a main reflector are combined, and the combined pattern continuously changes based on a movement of the sub reflector. The main reflector and the sub reflector reflect the light from a light source to illuminate the road surface and the like in a target luminous intensity distribution pattern. As a result, it is possible to effectively utilize the light from the light source, as compared with the headlamp that makes only the main reflector reflect the light from the light source.

Thus, the blue color of the shade body portion 22A appears to be reflected on the reflector 20 when a lamp is viewed from the front while the movable shade 22 stays in a low-beam position. When a reflective area C reflecting the blue color varies in shape and size as the movable shade 22 moves to a high-beam position, beam switching can be visually confirmed easily.
