Abstract: An automated luminaire, that combines outputs from two different gobo assemblies. A first gobo assembly has a combined sectional frame that is a combination of a plurality of different frames, each frame representing a different individual image. The combined sectional frame includes different optical codings for the different views of the image. A second gobo assembly includes an interference pattern which is coded at different orientations to allow only one of the images to be seen at any of a plurality of different orientations of the interference pattern. At least one of the first and second gobo assemblies being rotatable, and commanded by the commands received by the computer to different orientations relative to one another, to allow the only one of the images to be seen at anyone time.

Abstract: An optical system and method for illuminating an object under investigation with filtered light is disclosed. In one embodiment, the system comprises a filter wheel having a plurality of variable bandpass filters. The filter wheel is rotatable about two axis, whereby rotation about the first axis brings a selected filter in line with a collimated beam of white light and rotation about the second axis adjusts the angle of the filter relative to the light beam in order to adjust the bandpass frequencies. A second beam of white light, which may be from a second light source, can also be reflected off of the face of the filter in a manner that illuminates the object with substantially white light. In one embodiment, the object may be alternately or simultaneously illuminated with filtered light or with reflected white light. The filter can be used as a bandstop or band rejection filter to illuminate the object with white light that is missing a narrow frequency band.

Abstract: The present invention provides a drive system for an optical light modulation system employing multiple light modulation element pairs. The each pair is driven by a single motor which drives one axis around which one element of the first pair rotates while the other element of the first pair free floats and rotates about a second axis. While the second axis drives the rotation of the first element of the second pair and the first axis provides a rotation pivot for the second element of the second pair. Thus the two pairs share the two axises providing a more compact drive system that can be used more flexibly in an optical train of an automated multiparameter lighting system.

Abstract: A reflector has a one-piece sheet-metal body having an anodized front face and unitarily formed with a central annular part lying generally in a plane and having an inner periphery generally centered on an axis and adapted to accommodate a light source and an outer periphery. A plurality of flat fingers project from the outer periphery, extend at an acute angle to the plane, have outer ends, and each have a pair of generally parallel side edges. Each edge of each finger is closely juxtaposed with the edge of the adjacent finger and the fingers form with the annular part a concave shape.

Abstract: An exemplary illumination device includes a light source and a light-pervious light guiding barrel. The light source is configured for emitting light along a given light path. The light-pervious light guiding barrel receives the light source therein, and the barrel includes light guiding regions with different light directing and/or reflecting capabilities. In addition, the barrel is rotatable relative to the light source such that each of the light guiding regions can be selectively placed on the light path to direct and/or reflect the light from the light source.

Abstract: A vehicle headlamp is provided with: a fixed reflector having reflecting surfaces, a respective one of which is made of a parabola-based free curved face; movable reflectors having reflecting surfaces, a respective one of which is made of a parabola-based free curved face; and semiconductor-type light sources, a respective one of which has a light emitting chip shaped like a planar rectangle. When the movable reflectors are positioned in a first location, a light distribution pattern for low beam is obtained on the reflecting surfaces of the fixed reflector. When the movable reflectors are positioned in a second location, light distribution patterns for high beams are obtained on the reflecting surfaces of the fixed reflector and the movable reflector. As a result, the vehicle headlamp enables downsizing, weight reduction, power saving, and cost reduction.
