  • Patent number: 5816691
Abstract: An apparatus and method of minimizing glare from a lighting fixture using reflective glass as a lens and where the fixture is configured or desired to be configured to converge light to the same point in space. The method aims a top-most or bottom-most portion of the main reflector so that light reflected from it travels perpendicularly to the lens. Remaining portions of the main reflector either automatically adjust to the top-most or bottom-most portion or are adjusted so that glare is minimized by reimaging of the light source caused by reflectance from the glass lens in a manner that such reflectance is blocked wholly or partially by the light source and/or the holder of the light source and/or the supporting structure positioning the holder of the light source in place inside the housing. The apparatus according to the invention includes a lighting fixture having a housing, a light source and reflector in the housing, and a glass have reflecting properties on the housing.

  • Patent number: 5707129
Abstract: A headlamp for vehicular use including a rotatable shade composed of a right shade and a left shade and which constitutes a clear-cut line vertically moving adjusting device for vertically moving and adjusting a clear-cut line of a low beam produced by the headlamp, a curved road detecting device for detecting a condition of a curved road in front of the vehicle, and a main optical axis lateral direction tilting adjusting device. The rotatable shade is rotated by a predetermined amount in accordance with the information of a curved road detected by the steering sensor so that the clear-cut line is vertically moved and adjusted. Further, the reflector (and the bulb mounted thereon) is laterally slid by a predetermined amount so that the light distribution pattern and the "hot zone" are laterally moved and adjusted. • Patent number: 5558421
Abstract: The present invention discloses a decorative fiber optic lamp including an enclosed base attached to a lamp shade. A motor has a rod connected to a special effects wheel located directly above a light source. The motor is connected to a transformer which is in turn connected to a power source for operating the motor to thereby rotate the wheel. An elongated fiber plug is located immediately above the light source and extends within the lamp shade. Light transmitters are bundled or joined within the fiber plug and extend from the center of the fiber plug through the top end of the fiber plug and at that point, expand outward or fan out in all directions into the lamp shade. Also, the fiber strands extend downward, thereby forming a tree-like appearance. Light is illuminated from the light source and modified as it travels through the special effects wheel and into the bottom of the fiber plug. As a result, special effects are generated within the lamp shade, thereby creating a decorative lamp.

  • Patent number: 5184891
Abstract: This mechanical joint allows relative rotation of two articles (one may be a stationary fixture), on an arbitrary axis. The joint has as much angular-rotation range as a hinge, but as many degrees of freedom as a ball-and-socket or universal joint. It allows transmission, between the objects, of force or flux (e.g., of electricity, gas, or liquid), or both. It can be used as an applied-force or motion sensor, varying electrical contacts or conductivity in response to relative motion or force applied between the articles. In one form the invention is simply a mechanical joint formed of two closely interlocked toroids. The minor cross-section of each toroid is sized to just fit through the central aperture of the other; there is a connection point on each toroid for attachment of one article. By adjusting closeness of fit, a designer can impart to the device a wide range of desirable frictional properties.

Abstract: A shade control arrangement comprises a shade panel having inner and outer edges with an attachment clamp or attachment clips at the inner edge and additional clips at the outer edge. The outer clips can be used to hold the edge of a gelatin sheet or a perforated sheet to stretch the sheet across a source of light to which a pair of panels is connected using the inner clips or clamp. The clamp comprises inner and outer jaws which form a pocket that can be closed with a screw, at least one of the jaws being pivotally connected between the legs of a U-shaped fork that is detachably connected to the shade panel near the inner edge thereof. A flexible shaft is detachably connected to the clamp. A similarly structured clamp can be used to capture the edge of a flexible sheet that contains a plurality of parallel bend troughs so that the sheet can be bent into a varity of shapes.

  • Patent number: 5126886
Abstract: A color changer (20) comprising a component hue saturation filter (30) including an elongated flexible substrate (32) having a surface with a gradient axis (GA) and which includes a graded portion (G) supporting a uniform concentration of a selected hue filtering material (50) distributed in a continuously graded average density in beam-size areas around points along the gradient axis. The component hue saturation filters may be embodied in separate substrates positionable in parallel planes to be intersected serially by a beam of light. Alternately, dual-hue filters (68) may be formed by two primary hue component filters embodied in respective substrates each also embodying duplicate third primary hue component filters producing the same effects. Saturations of each selected hue of light appear evenly distributed in the output beam without the need for color components to be further commingled.

  • Patent number: 5073847
Abstract: A lighting instrument having pivotable dichroic filters arranged in a substantially radial arrangement with respect to a projected light beam. Multiple sets of such filters are spaced along the axis of the light beam to vary the color of the light beam emitted from the instrument. A gearing mechanism rotates all filters of each set in synchronization with each other and independently with respect to filters of the other sets. The filters may be positioned to pass unfiltered light to vary the saturation of the light beam.

Abstract: A protective, reflective, light diffusing sleeve is adapted to mount on a light element to protect the element and intercept light emitted therefrom. The sleeve comprises a tube adapted to telescopically receive the element and a reflecting member carried by the tube for reflecting light emitted from the element. The tube is adapted to mount on the element for free rotation relative thereto to move the reflecting member about the element to control the direction of reflective light. The sleeve further comprises an element carried by the tube opposite the reflecting member for diffusing light reflected therefrom. The diffusing element comprises a field of prisms formed on and extending along a longitudinally extending portion of the tube.

  • Patent number: 4974133
Abstract: A lighting apparatus is provided which comprises a color disc capable of transmitting light therethrough and arranged within a housing having an opening. The color disc has a planar surface parallel to the opening, and a large number of subdivided sections defined on the planar surface. The subdivided sections are individually colored in one of a plurality of colors such that, when viewed as a whole, the planar surface has a plurality of identical coloration patterns each consisting of the subdivided sections of the same color and that any adjacent ones of the coloration patterns are different in color from each other. A shutter disc is arranged between the color disc and the opening and has a large number of windows for permitting only those subdivided sections forming one of the coloration patterns to be exposed to the outside of the housing when the shutter disc is at a predetermined rotational angle position.
