The light body is connected both electrically and mechanically to the light body mounting base by the connector. Yet, it is possible to omit a special insulation structure with regard to the terminal and the connection means by making the light body structure and the base structure of a plastic material. Thus the workability of the light body is improved and the construction of both the light body and the light body mounting base is simplified.

  • Patent number: 6127782
Abstract: An ignitor and ignitor monitoring device is provided which is externally and detachably mounted to a high intensity discharge (HID) luminaire. The ignitor monitoring device provides a visual indication of whether or not the ignitor of the lamp in the HID luminaire is functioning. If the lamp is not on and the indicator is activated, sufficient open circuit voltage is present to operate the ignitor, the ballast in the luminaire is most likely functioning properly, and power is present to operate the luminaire. A service person can assume that the lamp is defective and can replace the lamp as a first attempt to correct the problem with the luminaire. If the lamp is off and the indicator is also not operating, the luminaire is not operating for any of a number of reasons such as a defective ignitor, a defective ballast capacitor, a defective lamp or loss of supply voltage from the power source. A service person can replace the ignitor in a first attempt to repair the luminaire.

Abstract: A sheet metal housing for an HID luminaire which comprises a two piece, fold-up sheet metal housing which provides exceptional strength with minimal usage of materials to support a very heavy ballast therein. The sheet metal housing is suitable for a low cost highbay luminaire with high watt ballasts for Metal Halide and High Pressure Sodium, Mercury Vapor (HID) light sources. The sheet metal housing provides reflector adjustability for different size lamps and light centers. A top sheet metal stamping defines a central ballast shelf on which a ballast is mounted, and first and second ends of the top stamping are bent 90.degree. on opposite sides of the central ballast shelf. The first and second ends of the top stamping are further bent back 180.degree. upon themselves to form a double wall. The first and second ends of the top stamping are further bent 90.degree. to project towards each other.

  • Patent number: 6082031
Abstract: Internally illuminated emergency signs are typically placed in elevated locations which are awkward for electricians to reach, yet must be securely mounted. It is therefore difficult and time-consuming to make wiring connections after the mounting operation is completed. In order to facilitate both quick and easy wiring of the sign, and secure mounting thereof, an improved canopy features a projecting bracket which slips into a slot in a side or top of the sign housing, and engages over horizontally extending screws. Rapid, yet secure mounting of the sign is achieved by cantilevering the sign on the bracket, if side mounting is used, or by use of a locking pin, if top mounting is used. The locking pin keeps the screws from sliding laterally with respect to the bracket.
