Abstract: An extendible handle assembly for an umbrella includes an adapter for coupling to a shaft and a sleeve. The sleeve has a series of grooves, and the adapter has tabs which move within the grooves. The adapter and the shaft move axially relative to each other in order to extend the length of the handle. In another embodiment, the handle construction has an adapter, an inner sleeve, and a shell. The adapter and inner sleeve each have tabs which mate with grooves in the inner sleeve and the shell, respectively. The adapter may be rigidly coupled to the shaft with threads, or may have a switch operated opening mechanism.

Abstract: A magnetic utility lamp has a housing that is polyhedral or prismatic in shape (having a member of flat faces), a handle, and a hook, all of which are magnetized. The magnetization of the combined housing, handle and hook is preferably done in such a way as to make one common magnetic polarity extending along the major axis of the lamp. In another embodiment, an even number of magnetic polarities may be made, alternating in the senses of their magnetic poles. The combination of polyhedral shape and magnetization provides versatile positioning of the lamp. Within the magnetic housing is a unique polyhedral reflector, which is easily re-oriented by the user to direct light from the lamp bulb in a desired direction. The interior surface of the utility lamp housing is adapted to hold the polyhedral reflector adjustably in a number of discrete aiming directions.

Abstract: A combination searchlight, which includes a searchlight, which has a lamp case covered with a rim and a lens and connected to a lamp case supporting arm thereof at the top of a handle thereof, a carrying strap fixed to the handle and lamp case supporting arm of the searchlight, and a mount fixed to the lamp case supporting arm to carry a compass and a reflecting bar, wherein the rim is fastened to the lamp case through a screw joint and has a plurality of pins perpendicularly extended from the front side thereof and spaced around the periphery for protecting the lens.

Abstract: A self-positioning light fixture with a stabilizing base comprises a self-righting member in the shape of a spherical segment and a separate lamp supporting member with connecting means to join the two together and to separate each from the other. When separated, a filling neck or spout on the top wall of the self-righting member is exposed through which fluid ballast material such as sand may be poured into the cavity of the self-righting member. The filling neck has external threads to engage the internal threads of a recess opening to the bottom wall of the lamp supporting member when received therein to thereby couple the two members together. Additional fastening screws are provided to more securely connect the self-righting member to the lamp supporting member. A shock absorbing mechanism is provided comprising mounting springs to secure the lamp bulb socket member to the lamp supporting member and thereby protect it from shocks transmitted to the lamp fixture.

Abstract: A side handle baton and flashlight assembly as well as a kit for converting a conventional flashlight into a side handle baton and flashlight assembly. A conventional flashlight having an elongated handle section adapted to hold a plurality of dry cell batteries is separated from a conventional lamp section having a bulb assembly therein. An electrical contact assembly is provided for installation in an end of the handle section. A spacer is provided to connect the handle section to the lamp section. The spacer has an elongated tubular body with a electrically conductive insert therein. The insert has a first electrical contact at one end and a second electrical contact at the other end. A pair of conductive wires extend from the first contact to the second contact. The first electrical contact in the insert is in contact with the lightbulb assembly and the second electrical contact in the insert is in contact with the contact assembly in handle section.

Abstract: A lantern which is battery powered and is contained within a casing. Mounted on the exterior wall of the casing are a plurality of spaced apart rail-type attachments. A separate handle is to be securely mounted onto either of the rail-type attachments. The handle can be mounted in various positions in conjunction with the rail. Also, the longitudinal positioning of the handle on the rail can be varied according to individual desires. Once the desired position is obtained, the handle is fixedly secured to the rail.

A light is secured to the distal end portion, the light being operable to emit a light beam. A holder, which may include a fishing rod holder, is secured to a boat or other object, the holder having a receptacle. Abstract: An openable handle generally formed as a spring-closing carbiner is provided for attachment to a manually transportable object and has elongated arms connected to the transportable object in spaced relation to each other. The handle is attached to the transportable object so as not to be separable therefrom and one end of the first arm and one end of the second arm each extend outwardly from the attached transportable object. A portion for making the handle openable is located at a site between the outwardly extending ends of the first arm and the second arm, for passage therethrough of a member from which the transportable object is to be suspended.

Abstract: An improved lamp hanger for hanging portable utility lamps which includes a lift plate affixed to an exterior surface of the lamp having a magnet disposed therein. A selectively removable cap fits onto and grips the lift plate for covering the magnet and includes a hook projecting from a surface thereof in a direction away from the lamp when the cap is in place on the lift plate and provides a means for hanging the lamp from a hook point. Alternatively, the cap can be removed and the lamp suspended by the magnet from a ferromagnetic surface.

Abstract: The lamp handle cover system for surgical lamps includes a semi-permanent, non-disposal surgical lamp handle and its accessory component, a sterile disposable semi-flexible handle cover, which, in combination, provides an aseptic medium by which a surgical team member can manually adjust the operating room lamp during a surgical procedure, thereby preventing accidental or unknown incidental procedure, thereby preventing accidental or unknown incidental contamination. The non-disposable lamp handle includes an ergonomically designed grip handle and a locking/coupling assembly which couples the grip handle to the male component of the conventional surgical lamp. The sterile disposable handle cover is formed from a flexible sleeve closed at one end and having a relatively rigid collar formed about the opposite open end.

Abstract: A lamp housing having a non-metallic exterior guard and handle assembly and threaded relief passages is disclosed. The exterior guard comprises a series of flared nylon spokes spaced about the circumference of the globe for cushioning the lamp and its tempered glass globe during impact with hard surfaces. One end of each spoke converges to a common location at the top of the lamp housing, while the other terminates along the circumference of a ring concentric with the lower portion of the globe. The lamp housing also includes threaded joints forming helical relief passages for permitting hot, pressurized gasses, should any be present, to cool before exiting the housing. Other features of the invention include a strain relief structure for relieving stresses on electrical connections with external cables and a hook for permitting the structure to be fixed about appropriate objects.

Abstract: The projector for medical use comprises an illuminating cupola articulately mounted about different axes and provided along its wider outline with a protecting flange of flexible material dimensioned so as to constitute a device for gripping and operating the cupola and defining an inner chamber bounded, on the outer face of the flange by a sufficiently thin wall to be deformed by manual pressure and allowing the operation of control mechanisms of a device for unblocking and reblocking articulation brakes of arm supports of the capola.

Abstract: A spotlight apparatus includes a lamp and a support assembly coupled with the lamp. The support assembly includes support elements shiftable between a support position in which the lower ends of the elements are shifted outwardly to form a tripod, and a handle position in which the elements are shifted inwardly and the exterior surfaces thereof cooperatively form a continuous handle surface for grasping.

Abstract: A handle and cooperating cover for a moveable lighting fixture, particularly a lighting fixture of the type utilized in surgical operating rooms or like environments. The handle is provided with an elongated body that is attachable at one end thereof to the light fixture and includes a circular shoulder radially projecting from the elongated body near the end thereof that is attached to the light fixture. The cover comprises an elongated hollow tubular section having a closed end and an open end and which fits over the elongated body of the handle and includes a radially extending flange section adjacent the open end of the tubular section. Latch means are carried by the flange section for engaging lip means defined by the radial edge region of the circular shoulder to removably secure the cover in position on the handle.

Rotation of the screw slides the piston and the bulb relative to the reflector to adjust the light beam.

Abstract: A portable electric lamp of explosion-proof construction including an elongated hand grip, an elongated flourescent bulb having a U-shaped joint light-generating portion supported at one end of the hand grip and a transparent tube positioned about the light-generating portion of the bulb utilizes an elongated tubular protector element positioned about the transparent tube and which cooperates with the hand grip to maintain the transparent tube in position about the light-generating portion of the bulb. The lamp further includes a power cord routed through the end of the hand grip opposite the light-generating portion and the lamp includes an amount of magnesite base cement positioned in the hand grip and interposed between the light-generating portion and a section of the power cord entering the hand grip. The lamp further includes a ballast assembly having a ballast interconnected in the power cord at a location remote of the hand grip and wherein the ballast is encased in magnesite base cement.

A mirror is spaced from the open end, and mounted for rotation about an axis substantially perpendicular to the axis of the cylindrical body, that intersects the axis of the cylindrical body. The cylindrical body may include or be mounted on a pole or other stand. At least one vent may be provided in the cylindrical body open to the gap between the body and the light source. The mirror may be mounted to also be rotatable about the axis of the cylindrical body. The components of the device are easily assembled and disassembled.

The globe and coupling member are inverted as a unit after being removed from the housing, and the globe is inserted into the housing around the fuel source for storage and protection of the globe. A bail-type handle connects a pair of strips slidably supported by the housing.

Abstract: A hand held spotlight includes a sealed beam enclosure together with one or more detachable handles. The detachable handles each include a latching mechanism capable of translating a magnet between a first position and a second position. A magnetically-actuated switch within the enclosure is used to turn off and on the light circuit. The handle is detachably mounted on the enclosure in a particular position so that the magnetically-actuated switch within the enclosure may be opened and closed by the magnet in the handle. In the preferred embodiments, a single enclosure may be utilized with either a pistol-style grip or a lantern-style grip. The ability to form the beam enclosure without penetrations is particularly useful in providing watertight and explosion-proof spotlights.

Abstract: An equipoised lamp is provided which comprises a lamp head mounted on an adjustable arm assembly which is counter-balanced by internal coaxial torsion springs mounted within the adjacent end sections of the arms. The end sections are bent at 90.degree., so that the arms may be set to desired angular positions about respective mutually perpendicular axes. The arms may be mounted on an upright base so that the assembly constitutes a floor lamp, or they can be clamped to a table, to provide a draftsman's lamp assembly, and the like. The lamp head itself is mounted at an intermediate position on one of the arms, so that the end of that arm may form a handle for manually adjusting the lamp head to any desired position without any need to touch the hot lamp.

Abstract: In the preferred embodiment described and illustrated, the lamp comprises a box-like receptacle in which to confine a light. One side of the box is open, and a grid-type shield is pivotably coupled thereto, and latchingly engaged with clasps, to expose illumination from a receptacle confined light and to protect such light from damage. A hook is pivotably journalled from one end of the receptacle, for suspending the receptacle. The journalling end of the hook is U-shaped, and the journalling end of the receptacle has a plurality of detent holes formed therein, whereby the U-shaped end of the hook can be detentably engaged with any one of the detent holes to direct the illumination as desired. The exterior surfaces of the receptacle and shield are flat, to inhibit rolling of the lamp.

Abstract: A self-luminous light source is disclosed having a light-permeable shell, a body disposed within the shell, defining a space between the shell and body, a member connecting the shell and body, radioactive gas disposed in the space, and a phosphor coating on at least one surface of the shell and body. The shell and body may be coaxial glass tubes defining an annular space of restricted width, connected to one another by annular end members.

Abstract: To permit sufficient illumination for a plastic-sealed general purpose lamp, a bulb is encased in plastic and sealed, with the plastic shell of the lamp having wide parallel faces, one of which may include a reflector to focus light. The lamps may be battery or AC controlled and have a handle for holding them and a magnet mounted in them for mounting to a surface magnetically. To control the intensity and location of the light flux emitted from the lamp, a plastic lens and reflector may be incorporated in the lamp with the inner light bulb between the two. For greater power dissipation, dead space of approximately two cubic inches is placed around the lamp in some embodiments.

Abstract: A spotlight assembly conformed for electrical excitation through the cigarette lighter of an automobile comprises a hollow housing formed by mating a front and a rear housing halves, each half including an upper portion for receiving a bulb and a lower portion forming a handle. The bulb, preferably of the sealed beam type, is retained against outward progression by an inwardly directed lip in the upper front portion and is pressed against this lip by an annular ring in the rear upper portion, the ring being guided by axially aligned posts for compression against the bulb by helical springs on each post.

Abstract: A flashlight screwdriver combination, the screwdriver being carried by a holder of the approximate size and shape of the flashlight it is to contain, the holder being of flexible construction and having a flashlight access permitting the flashlight to be squeezed into the holder, the holder carrying an axially mounted clamp at its front end, the clamp for holding a screw driver.

Abstract: A combination flashlight and lamp which may be used in fixed position as a table lamp. Lamp section may be removed and the instant invention becomes a powerful flashlight. Rechargeable batteries contained in the flashlight section are maintained at full charge by a built-in battery charger. The invention is aesthetically pleasing and can be modified to fit most room decors. Several mechanisms for rapid assembly and disassembly are provided. The base of the lamp, which is actually the flashlight section may be made of a translucent material so that, when the invention is used as a table lamp and the flashlight is activated, the base of the lamp will grow creating a special decoration feature.

Abstract: There is disclosed a combination of a side-handle baton and a flashlight in which the light bulb and reflector are located in the short end of the baton, remote from the battery which can be a rechargeable dry cell battery pack is located intermediate the length of the elongated club portion of the baton, centrally positioned to preserve the balance of the baton. The flashlight switch is located in the end of the side-handle which, preferably, has an enlarged bulbous end for gripping purposes. In preferred embodiments the side-handle includes a central, rotatable sleeve with an interchangeable extension block to permit adjustment of the side-handle to varied hand widths.

Abstract: A portable light assembly conformed for excitation from the cigarette lighter outlet of an automobile comprises two light housings each universally pivoted from a central handle assembly. The central assembly includes opposed pivot fittings from which two laterally disposed swivel blocks are pivoted, each swivel block in turn pivotally supporting a corresponding light. In this form the alignment of each light may be individually selected to produce any desired beam pattern, the same pivotal freedom providing for a collapsed alignment where the lens portions of each light are protected from damage.

Abstract: A trouble light support and storage device has a flat frame with an aperture therein for receiving and encompassing a trouble light and permitting forward or rearward directing of the light's beam. The frame includes upper and lower transverse flexing web members between which a trouble light is extended with the web members being elastically flexed to firmly retain the trouble light and prevent destructive rattling and shaking thereof. The frame includes primary and secondary cord storage reels.

Abstract: A combined fluorescent lamp and spotlight which is simple to manufacture and assemble has a trough-shaped body member of generally rectangular section with tubular cylindrical projections at its ends and a chassis member received on the trough-shaped body member and closing the open side thereof, the chassis member mounting a bulb holder for a bulb, fluorescent tube mounting members, a printed circuit board, a switch and battery contacts such that all the electrical components requiring connection together are all provided on the chassis member which can be completely wired before being engaged on the trough-shaped body member to close the open side thereof.

Abstract: A subsurface light comprising an illumination source and an elongate handle attached to and extending from the illumination source. The length of the handle is adjustable. The light further includes a buoyant body having generally planar inboard and outboard services connected to the handle inboard of the illumination source. At least one plate secured to the buoyant body is mounted to the handle by an integral flap.

Abstract: A portable navigation light system for barges in which the legally required three lights are provided by a set of three, self-contained units. Each unit contains its own power supply, light activating mechanism, light source so configured as to show over the required arc of the horizon with the required range of visibility, and means for affixing the unit to the barge. Each unit incorporates an integral carrying handle and is configured so that the three units nest one inside of the other with their respective handles coinciding as one, thereby permitting the carrying of the nested units as one.

Abstract: A high intensity lamp system for fireman's use and similar users provides a specially shaped base with an angle-adjustment of a reflector-equipped high intensity lamp extending from a junction box on the base; the base special shape includes at one end a "J"-section channel hook for hanging the system on a door or the like free of twisting; an arcuate cutout centrally in the edge of "J"-section channel hook provides for hanging the system on a nail or the like; at the opposite end of the base a planar projection of the base beyond the junction box provides for mounting the system by clamping or by slipping into a slot. The junction box receives a twist-lock type electrical supply plug in a socket for power input and provides two output sockets, eliminating need for extra extension cords. Special provisions permit adjusting the angle of the lamp head without danger of burning the hands of the user.

Abstract: A clamp light construction which includes a clamp construction having connected thereto a portable light whereby the light can be readily used independently of the clamp construction and/or in conjunction therewith; and whereby the light beam when utilized in conjunction with the associated clamp construction can be securely maintained on a support thereby permitting both hands of an operator to be free to perform a work function other than holding the light during a work performing operation; and whereby the light so supported can be adjusted to direct its light beam on the work area. The clamp construction is also readily adapted to support other devices other than a light.

Abstract: A hydrocarbon-burning lantern is convertible from a broadcast configuration to a spotlight configuration. The cover, glass housing, and bail of a conventional lantern are removed and replaced with a semi-spherical reflector having a glass-covered opening and a handle. A ring clamps the glass window against the open face of the reflector. A number of vent openings are provided in the reflector to cool the lantern and permit the lantern to be lighted. The handle permits the lantern to be maneuvered effectively.

Abstract: An improved portable electric flashlight capable of changing over state of light projections continuously between a forward projection and a diffused peripheral projection, which is simple in construction and stable in functioning, and is also applicable to a variety of end uses, for example, as a normal flashlight to be carried about with hands, a lantern to be placed on desks or floors or hung from ceilings, etc.

Abstract: A utility lamp has a tubular handle for containing a bulb receptacle connected to a cord extending out of the handle and terminated by a connector. A bulb cage or guard is removably clamped to the handle to protectively enclose a bulb inserted in the receptacle. Formed integrally with the bulb guard is a cord storage section about which the length of cord extending from the handle can be wound. A stand is formed at the free end of the bulb guard permitting the utility lamp to be stood on end on a horizontal surface. Also, a hook is swively mounted to the top of the bulb guard so that the lamp can be hung from an elevated projection and a magnet is mounted to the cord storage section enabling lamp to be suspended from a ferromagnetic object.

Abstract: A loop for leveling a hanging lamp. The loop has several notches for holding the lowermost link of a swag chain at several possible positions along the interior of the loop. The loop is then affixed to a lamp in a manner which permits turning it to any desired location so that a hanging lamp which would not hang straight if hung from its center may be made to hang straight by placing the lowermost link in a notch other than the center notch and rotating the loop to a position to correct the imbalance.

Abstract: A novelty lamp utilizes an old-fashioned hand-type water pump to support the lamp and shade and, in a preferred form, has a three-way ratchet switch arranged so that raising and lowering of the pump handle effects energizing and lighting of the lamp in one of three wattages.

Abstract: An adjustable trouble lamp support which includes a hook, a friction swivel and a clamping bracket for attaching the support to a trouble lamp. The hook includes a curved section and a shank section with the hook sufficiently large to substantially extend beyond the periphery of the trouble lamp cage at any angular position.The friction swivel includes a portion of the shank section that is attached on an incline to the center of a disc, a spring located around this portion of the shank section and a housing enclosing the spring and shank section whereby the spring is compressed and a frictional force is produced between the disc and housing.
