  • Patent number: 7618168
Abstract: A shatter glass guard and venting effect design for a fixture of a luminaire adapted to provide adequate shatter guard protection for the purpose of preventing glass from a broken lamp from being released from the fixture. An annular ring of perforated material is attached to an open end of a reflector. A lens is attached to the outside surface of the annular ring and is dimensioned to expose a portion of the perforated material to allow for venting of heat from within the fixture. The lens and lamp can be installed or removed from the fixture after installation without access from the top of the light housing. The lens when mounted becomes integral with the reflector and moves with the reflector should the reflector need to be adjusted or tilted for aiming. The lens and annular ring combination provides adequate shatter guard protection and venting of the fixture.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a lens retaining clip designed to hold a lens in place in the light path of a light bulb. This invention has two preferred embodiments designed to work with either an MR-16 light bulb or a PAR-36 light bulb. The primary difference between the embodiments is the shape and function of the retaining arms spaced around the perimeter of the retaining clip. Each embodiment of the present invention comprises a generally circular main bracket, and one or more, preferably three equally spaced, retaining arms. The main bracket is narrow in relation to the total diameter of the top member so as not to obstruct the light path of the light bulb. Retaining arms are attached to the outer edge of the main bracket and each are designed with an indented portion designed to “clip” onto the light bulb and retain the lens retaining clip on the bulb. Abstract: A flange portion is provided to at least a part of the periphery at the center position in the direction of the optical axis of a lens. The lens is held with clamping members and a lens holding metallic part, with the flange portion pressed by the clamping members. The portion where the flange portion is provided, suffers no compressive strain and tensile strain due to the bending of the lens, and is a part of the periphery of a neutral plane, which is the farthest plane from the optical surface of the lens. Therefore, the influence of the clamping force on the flange portion acting on other portions of the lens is reduced to the utmost, and the deformation of the optical surface due to the force acting on the flange portion is reduced to a minimum. As a result, the deterioration of the optical properties of the lens can be suppressed to the utmost.

Abstract: A backlight module includes an illuminating unit or a light source positioned opposite to and confronting a substrate with an optic film comprised of a number of layers positioned between the illuminating unit and the substrate. A device for fixing the layers of the optic film together during a test process includes a clip having pawls that are spring biased to tightly engage opposite sides of the film thereby fixing the layers together. Alternatively, a retention member is positioned on the optic film opposite to the substrate. A pin extends between the retention member and the substrate and through aligned openings defined in the layers to fix the layers together. The pin may be integrally formed with the retention member or the pin extends from the substrate. Secondary pins extend from the substrate and engage corresponding counterpart elements formed on the retention member to mount the retention member to the substrate.

Abstract: An image-forming device, especially an optical magnifying device, e.g., binoculars or a telescope, has an image influencing optical component, more specifically an eyepiece. The same is held by means of a holding device in such a way that the optical component is axially displaceable along the optical axis of the image-forming device. The holding device comprises a component holding element that is attached to and cannot move relative to the optical component, said component holding element having an adjustment marking, e.g., a dial with a plurality of individual markings reflecting the current axial position of the optical component. The holding device additionally has a marking member to accentuate at least one individual marking on the adjustment marking. With the aid of the marking member the axial position of the optical component can be marked prior to an axial readjustment of the same so that the axial readjustment can easily be reversed.
