Medium In Stirrer Or Mixing Chamber Patents (Class 366/147)
  • Patent number: 4177575
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for drying and pelletizing organic material such as animal waste, sewage and the like. The organic material is dried in two stages using a high temperature, rotating primary drying drum, and a lower temperature secondary louvred drying drum. The primary drum includes an inlet section and an outlet section. The inlet section includes a plurality of transverse chain curtains for increased heat transfer to the organic material, for breaking up the organic material and for cleaning the sides of the drum. The primary drum outlet section includes a plurality of vanes angularly attached to the inside of the drum to form an auger to retain the material in the drum until it is partially dried to a desired level. The organic material is then transported to the secondary louvred dryer. The louvred dryer includes an input section, an output section and a central pelletizing section formed by adjacent portions of the input and output sections.

  • Patent number: 4139308
Abstract: A gluing machine for gluing lignocellulose-containing particles such as fibers, shavings, dust, and the like, for the production of pressed wood plates, in which a housing has, at one end, an intake for material to be glued. At the other end of the housing there is an outlet for glued material. A stirring mechanism having mixing tools rotating with a shaft, is centered in the housing. Glue supply nozzles are also provided. The mixing tools are in the form of rods which run parallel to the stirring mechanism shaft, and they are supported on their ends on this shaft. The rods carry spaced cross surfaces, and are relatively close to the housing interior wall. At least some of the cross surfaces are inclined relative to the longitudinal axes of the rod with either the stirring mechanism shaft inclined from the horizontal in the direction towards the outlet downward, or with the horizontal stirring mechanism shaft.

  • Patent number: 4133375
Abstract: A cylindrical shell has a conical bottom with a central outlet therein. A hollow central shaft is rotatably and vertically supported within the center of the shell and has attached thereto at least one heat exchange element including lower and upper radial tubes. Hollow rectangular ducts extend vertically between the upper and lower radial tubes. Heat exchange fluid flows from the upper end of the shaft, radially outwardly through the lower radial tubes, upwardly through the rectangular ducts, radially inwardly through the upper radial tubes, and to the upper end of the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4124307
Abstract: A highly viscous mass to be homogenized is fed from a screw plasticizer into a mixing chamber, perpendicular to the plasticizer mouth, in which a mandrel rotates independently of the plasticizer screw to masticate the mass in a narrow annular clearance between itself and the chamber wall. The mass, force-fed through this clearance by the screw pressure, encounters several sets of free-floating balls or other rotary bodies loosely guided in annular grooves of the chamber wall, or of the mandrel, while revolving about the mandrel axis. The mandrel may have a screw-threaded rearward extension for admixing additional ingredients from one or more further chamber inlets with the mass to be homogenized, with exertion of a back-up pressure upon that mass. The chamber temperature may be controlled by the circulation of a cooling fluid through its wall and/or through the mandrel.

  • Patent number: 4106110
Abstract: Asphalt-aggregate compositions are prepared in an elongated cylindrical drum having a plurality of hollow heated and spaced pipes extending therealong. Aggregate and asphalt are introduced into the drum at one end, the drum is rotated thereby mixing and heating the components and the finished composition is withdrawn at the other drum end. The apparatus includes a heating chamber at one end of the drum which communicates with the hollow pipe interiors and includes means for venting at least a portion of unburned hydrocarbon volatiles, smoke and gaseous mixtures from the heated composition into the heating chamber for further combustion while steam or water vapor are vented from the other end of the interior drum chamber.

  • Patent number: 4093419
Abstract: The device for irradiating liquid and pasty substances with high energy electrons in order to pasteurize or sterilize the irradiated substances and to enrich them with one or more additives, comprises a pair of cylindrical circulation members rotatably mounted in said housing and having radially extending helical blades. The members are located in a housing which has the shape of a solid figure eight formed of two tubes connected together and the walls of the housing conform to the path of the movement of the radial tips of the blades with a close clearance. The housing has an inlet for the substances to be irradiated at one end, and an outlet at the other end of the housing which is located between the axes of the rotatable members. The top of the housing has an irradiation opening between the axes of the circulation members and an electron deflecting horn of an electron beam radiating means has an electron accelerator disposed over the irradiation opening for directing a sweeping electron beam thereover.

  • Patent number: 4086369
Abstract: A process for freezing cooked rice utilizes a rotary drum, and blade elements rotated within the drum. A mass of cooked rice is fed into the drum, and a liquid refrigerant is jetted into the drum for freezing the rice. The mass of rice must be separated into individual grains. This is achieved by impact of the blades against the mass of rice. The degree of impact must be sufficient to separate the mass into individual grains, but must not be such as to damage the grains. The invention selects a range of speeds of circumferential rotation of the blades which gives separation without damage.

  • Patent number: 4083537
Abstract: Dilute sulphuric acid is added to, and thoroughly mixed with, lint-bearing cotton seeds to saturate the lint on those lint-bearing cotton seeds. The resulting acid-treated lint-bearing cotton seeds have heated air passed adjacent to and around them while they are thoroughly stirred. The resulting dried acid-treated lint-bearing cotton seeds have the lint separated therefrom by being recurrently forced into engagement with other cotton seeds. The adding and mixing of the acid, the drying of the acid-treated lint-bearing cotton seeds, and the separating of the lint from the dried acid-treated lint-bearing cotton seeds are performed on a continuous basis rather than on a batch basis.
