  • Patent number: 4998464
Abstract: A heat exchange device that can be used for continuously cooling or heating a slurry of food consisting of lumps in a non-viscous liquid. The device comprises several vertically spaced heat transfer trays in alignment with each other and each having an opening extending therethrough, that is not in alignment with like openings of adjacent trays, and having raised portions next to the openings to restrict the rapid flow of liquid through the openings, so the food slurry has to be pushed or scraped by slowly moving scraper members to each opening, where it can fall by force of gravity to an adjacent lower tray.

  • Patent number: 4993593
Abstract: A flowable medium, such as a liquid, a semi-liquid, or a liquid containing particulate matter, can be automatically dispensed in a premeasured amount or in a continuous stream. When the flowable medium is being dispensed in a premeasured amount, such amount is isolated from the remainder of the flowable medium during the dispensing operation so that it can be dispensed independently of any head pressure created by the remainder of the flowable medium. By using a temperature sensor in combination with a microcomputer system for the purpose of detecting large fluctuations in the temperature of the flowable medium, it is also possible to determine when the remainder of the flowable medium reaches a low level condition.

  • Patent number: 4946283
Abstract: A continuous process aggregate drying and mixing plant for producing a hot asphaltic material, such as is used for paving highways or the like, includes a combination of a drum drier and a pugmill. Both the drum drier and the pugmill are supported by a common trailer frame. The pugmill is coextensively mounted at the discharge end of the drum drier towards the rear of the frame. The drum drier discharges dried and heated virgin aggregate material through a feed and transfer chute directly into a first, pre-mix region of the pugmill. The feed and transfer chute also provides for the addition of recycled pavement to the heated and dried aggregate and for the side discharge of such heated and dried aggregate. A second region of the pugmill within which liquid asphalt is added to the mixed aggregate is substantially separated from the first, pre-mix region. The space above the second region of the pugmill is substantially enclosed and coupled directly to a secondary air supply of a burner for the drum drier.

The combined influence of gas expansion and mechanical mixing in the geometry of a horizontally located cylindrical grate enables more economical treating and use of lower gas velocity. The close control of particle residence time gives high quality of final products and extremely homogeneous results. The concentration of more processes into one apparatus is the further advantage of the invention.

Abstract: A temperature controlled dough mixer having a bowl which is provided with a cooled sheet panel, a pair of cooled end panels and a cooled breaker tube extending between the end panels. A cooled agitator may be rotatably mounted between the end panels of the bowl. Cooling of the sheet panel is effected by a series of internal, side-by-side flow channels which are interconnected at alternate ends to define a plurality of segregated serpentine flow paths for an appropriate cooling fluid. The mixer also includes temperature sensing means for sensing the temperature within the bowl and control means responsive to the temperature sensing means for controlling the flow of cooling fluid through the cooled portions of the mixer.

  • Patent number: 4229109
Abstract: A closed loop system which includes (1) a drum mixer, (2) a heat source separate from the drum mixer for producing a heated gas, (3) intake and exhaust ducts which channel, respectively, the gas produced by the heat source to the intake end of the drum mixer, and the gas at the discharge end of the drum mixer back to one intake of the heat source, and (4) a fan for maintaining the flow of gas in the system. The gas produced by the heat source is between 700.degree. F. and 2000.degree. F. when it enters the drum mixer at its intake end from the intake duct. Graded aggregates and a bituminous binder are fed into the drum mixer at its intake end. The graded aggregates are mixed with the bituminous binder, in the presence of the heated gas, by rotational action of the drum mixer. The resulting bituminous paving mixture is discharged at the discharge end of the drum mixer, along with exhaust gas, a portion of which is channeled back to one intake of the heat source by the exhaust duct.

  • Patent number: 4208134
Abstract: A mix for batch mixing a treatment agent and a particulate material comprises a mixing chamber having at least one mixing member rotatably mounted therein. Outlet means is positioned to receive the mixed batch of material from the mixing chamber. The mixing member may be rotated at a first speed of rotation effective to mix materials within the mixing chamber without discharging from the outlet means. The mixing member is also rotatable at a second speed of rotation effective to discharge the charge or batch of material through the outlet means after it has been treated during the initial mixing step. The rotation of the mixing member at a higher rate of speed at the second speed of rotation effects discharge through the outlet means by centrifugal force.

  • Patent number: 4204774
Abstract: A synchronous motor is employed to orbit one end of a stirring rod the other end of which is suspended by a flexible diaphragm in a liquid filled container. The synchronous motor includes a stator connected to a source of regular alternating current and a cylindrical permanent magnet rotor. A drive plate is connected across one end of the rotor. The stirring rod is received in an eccentrically located aperture in the plate so that one end of the rod is driven in a circle. The motor is connected to a mounting plate on the cap of the container by a pair of threaded studs. Springs surround each of the studs so that the distance between the motor and the cap can be altered by screwing up or down on a pair of wing nuts received on the studs. The diaphragm acts as a fulcrum for the stirring rod so that the linear velocity of the orbiting free end of the rod can be controlled by altering the distance between the motor and the cap.
