  • Patent number: 5610898
Abstract: An information recording/reproducing method and apparatus is for carrying out at least one of recording and reproducing information through a probe electrode or through a plurality of probe electrodes on an information recording medium. A probe electrode is disposed on an elastic member. A relative position is so adjusted between the recording medium and the probe electrode that a repulsive force between them is comparative to an elastic force of the elastic member. In case of plural probe electrodes, they are displaced to keep an equal spacing between the recording medium and the respective probe electrodes so that they may have either a zero average or a minimized square sum of displacement. A spacer layer will do for setting a spacing between a probe electrode and the recording medium.

  • Patent number: 5329513
Abstract: An encoder or an information reading device detects a scale with a probe that is vibrated at a predetermined frequency and amplitude in a predetermined direction. The angular positional relationship between the direction of probe vibration and the scale is detected according to frequency spectrum information of a detection signal obtained by detecting the scale with the vibrating probe.

  • Patent number: 4993011
Abstract: An erasing beam B1 and a recording beam B2 emitted from a laser diode array 20 are focused on different tracks of a optical magnetic disk D, the erasing beam B1 being focused on a track located ahead of a track on which the recording beam B2 is focused. The reflected beams of the erasing beam B1 and the recording beam B2 are separated respectively into two polarized components by means of a polarized beam splitter 17 and the polarized components are received by photo sensor means 23 and 24. Based on outputs of the photo sensor means 23 and 24, an address signal, a focus error signal and a tracking error signal are obtained. At the time of reproduction, the laser diode array 20 emits a reproducing beam so that the photo sensor means provide a reproducing signal.

  • Patent number: 4434481
Abstract: A multi-electrode array deposited on a piezoelectric substrate is driven by a traveling-wave voltage generated from a wave delay generating device, such as a tapped coaxial cable. Suitably delayed and phased voltages are fed to each electrode in the array. Surface acoustic waves are excited on the surface of the piezoelectric substrate. The surface acoustic waves travel through the array in proper phase with the exciting signal supplied to the electrodes. The surface acoustic waves pick up energy as they travel along the surface. Such a structure has a number of advantages over the prior art conventional interdigital transducers. For example, they exhibit broad bandwidth characteristics, have high conversion efficiency and are generally free of spurious signals. These advantages make them well suited for application to video disc cutterheads.

  • Patent number: 4281407
Abstract: A surface acoustic wave (SAW) pickup and record stylus is constructed from an elongated substrate which supports the propagation of SAW. The substrate is tapered to a tip at one end and a fan-shaped interdigital electrode structure having curved fingers is formed thereon. During operation in the pickup mode a beam of SAW is focused to the tip of the stylus which is arranged in contact with a record medium. During playback, the beam reflected by the record medium generates a signal in the interdigital electrode of the stylus representative of the acoustic conditions at the stylus tip and, correspondingly, of the information recorded on the record medium surface. In the record mode the stylus is brought into contact with a record medium. During recording, the input power applied to the interdigital electrode is increased to effect a deformation of the surface of the record medium representative of the information to be recorded.
