  • Patent number: 7426174
Abstract: Disclosed herewith is a method for enabling fast and high density recording of information. A voltage is applied to a recording layer formed between a pair of electrodes. The distance between the pair of electrodes is set wider at one of land and groove areas of a subject optical disk and narrower at the other or the distance is set so that light absorption occurs only in either of the land and groove areas. The optical disk is also provided with a layer of which light absorption spectrum changes according to the application of an electric current, thereby absorbing the light. The new layer may be the recording layer itself or a layer adjacent to the recording layer. Because a heat generates only from a small area of the optical disk at the time of recording, the disk can be turned rapidly and permissively to the auto focusing and tracking offsets, thereby enabling fast and high density recording. The disk can thus be formed with easily selectable multiple layers.

  • Patent number: 7263053
Abstract: An information recording method and information recording apparatus is capable of resolving the trade-off relation between recording density and transmittance, wherein either the reproduction (playback) signal quality or the recording sensitivity is lowered. For this purpose, a voltage is applied by way of ball bearings or slip rings to a specified layer of a medium having multiple layers. The light transmittance of the recording layer is changed by application of this voltage. The tradeoff relationship between recording density and transmittance is eliminated thereby, and the recording density and transmittance levels are both improved, so as to enhance the recording reliability.

Data is stored three-dimensionally, in electric dipoles whose axes are perpendicular to the plane of the platters, rather than in magnetic dipoles that lie along the surface of a platter. Data is read and written via ungated field emitter tips rather than with transformers and magnetically sensitive elements. Abstract: High density recording systems and methods are disclosed which employ a radiation beam to form spot-like recordings in record members such as discs, tapes and cards. The angle, offset or cross-sectional shape of the recording beam can be varied so as to vary the angle, offset or shape of the corresponding recordings in the record member. The recorded information can be electro-optically or magnetically detected and discriminated from each other to provide high density recordings of alphanumeric characters or digital data. Enhanced detection scanning is effected by ultrasonically vibrating the laser or an optical element, such as a prism or mirror receiving the reading light beam, in a manner to cause it to scan back and forth laterally to the record track as a longitudinal scanning movement is effected parallel to the longitudinal axis or centerline of the track. The reflected light is detected, computer processed and analyzed to effect proper detection of the recordings to generate correct data therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4575838
Abstract: At least one layer of a conductive organic polymer, formed by electropolymerization on the anode in a two electrode cell, is bonded to a plastic substrate by compression with sufficient heat and pressure to cause it to bond to the substrate and release from the anode. Improved sandwich-type capacitive electronic discs having an information pattern in ultra thin outer conductive layers which are homogeneous and which contain no conductive particles are formed by this process by providing as the anode a mastering disc containing an information pattern which is the negative of the desired information pattern.

  • Patent number: 4538252
Abstract: A method for capacitatively storing data on a grooveless storage device is provided. The storage device is comprised of a conductive substrate having a layer of a photosensitive composition which dielectric constant is varied in the presence of irradiation. The method is carried out by exposing a layer of a photosensitive composition to irradiation in a predetermined pattern. The exposed layer is fixed by heating. Video disks for recording and playing back video signals can be prepared in accordance with the present method.

  • Patent number: 4426692
Abstract: A rotary recording medium has at least one surface on which a spiral main track is formed with a reference signal track disposed centrally between mutually adjacent track turns. The track turns of the main track have an information signal recorded thereon. First and second reference signals are recorded alternately on the reference signal track, and a third reference signal is recorded at changeover positions on the recording medium. The three reference signals control a pickup guiding servo system. To identify specific places on the recorded disc, the third reference signal is recorded during extra long periods, with identification being made on a basis of the lengths of those long periods.
