Abstract: Disclosed is an optical disc with a first area to store data for playback and that is reflective or opaque to visible light, and a second area that is transparent to visible light and includes first and second concentric rings. In one embodiment, a method of printing information on the optical disc includes: printing an inverse first text pattern in the first ring during a first printing on a first side, where the first text pattern is formed in reverse as viewed from the first side; printing a second text pattern in the second ring during a second printing on the first side, where the second text pattern is correctly visible from the first side; and printing, during the second printing, a first solid pattern to overlay at least a portion of the first text pattern, where the first text pattern is correctly visible as viewed from a second side.
Abstract: In a multilayer optical disc having information layers conforming to a plurality of different optical disc standards, because the type of each information layer is not recorded in the other information layers, in read and write operations by a compatible optical disc device conforming to a plurality of optical disc standards, every time the information layer being accessed changes, it has been necessary to read the type of the information layer and select a method of generating a tracking error signal adapted to the type of information layer, so access has taken time. In order to solve the above problem, in the optical multilayer disc according to the present invention, having information layers conforming to a plurality of different optical disc standards, in an area in one of the information layers, information about the other information layers is recorded. The time required to access the other information layers can be reduced by using this information to select a tracking error signal generating method.

Abstract: A rotation-activated electronic component, preferably a RFID tag mounted on or incorporated in a support that is rotated when read, e.g. a CD or DVD. The RFID tag comprises an antenna, a rotational switch and a component, advantageously a processor. The antenna is adapted to transform received RFID signals to electric energy that powers the component. In a preferred embodiment, the rotational switch is adapted to cut the circuit unless the support does not rotate at or above a certain rotational speed. Supports equipped with the RFID tag of the invention will thus respond only if they rotate sufficiently. This can avoid collisions in case more than one such RFID tag is within communication range of an antenna of a reader. In a preferred embodiment, the information returned by the component is needed for full use of the content on the support.

Abstract: There is herein described a Transmedian Storage and Transfer Device (TSTD) that will provide a more useful system for information storage, retrieval, and computation. This is achieved by increasing the speed and storage capacity beyond that provided by existing computers and related systems. To obtain these benefits, the TSTD utilizes a spherical surface for information storage along with a system detector that can be point-like, line-like, or spherical. Further more, multiple spheres can be incorporated into the TSTD thus resulting in a sphere matrix.
