  • Patent number: 8929375
Abstract: When stored identifying information of a transmission target frame and identifying information of a received frame are equal, a node apparatus updates transmission feasibility information stored in association with the final destination of the received frame. The transmission feasibility information indicates feasibility of transmission to each of a plurality of adjacent node apparatuses being a transmission destination, and is updated so that feasibility of transmission to the transmission destination associated with the identifying information of the received frame indicates that “the transmission is infeasible”. The node apparatus transmits the received frame, when there is no adjacent apparatus to which transmission is feasible, and when the stored identifying information of the transmission target frame is equal to the identifying information of the received frame, to the adjacent node apparatus recognized as the origin in association with the identifying information of the received frame.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the development of a device, Cognitive Communication Hub (CCH) that combines multiple and hybrid physical layers to collaborate and establish a unified network. The heterogeneous network so formed supports a whole range of bandwidth and spectrum while providing quality of service and class of service. The routing algorithm of the device is designed to explore the best route that can optimally use hybrid networking technologies to make a connection. The device has multiple interfaces and acts in an adhoc fashion. It forms multiple parallel data paths between source and destination and hence provides fault tolerance as a break down in one path does not disconnect end to end connection.

Abstract: At least two different redundancy protocols are operated in parallel by network devices in an Ethernet network. Control is determined and assigned to one of two protocols to have total control over which ports in the network devices are active and which are blocked for transmission of user data and network data network traffic while allowing all control and monitor traffic to traverse the ring of network devices. Control and monitoring packets are transmitted by RSTP packets through all of the network devices in the ring while restricting the data ports of the network devices to transmit user data and data network traffic to the network devices connected in the line of the network devices. Parameters received in RSTP packets are collected from all of the network devices in the ring in order to determine which network device of the network devices is a virtual root bridge.

A set of possible paths are determined for routing data packets from a root node to one or more other nodes of the set of nodes. A set of probabilistic values are identified for determining a path in the set of possible paths that individual data packets are to take as between the root node and a destination node specified by the individual data packet. Abstract: A dual-ring computer network architecture for industrial automation systems includes a dual-ring switch for interconnecting two networks, such as Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) networks. The dual-ring switch may provide separate control planes between the two networks but a common data plane between the networks. The system topology may include a main ring and a sub-ring, which creates separate fault regions for isolation. Using this configuration, the standard RSTP practical limit of 32 devices is no longer a limit, as the use of the dual-ring switch provides a mechanism to expand the total number of devices up to 256 while maintaining the network recovery time to within a target of 50 milliseconds. This allows for the use of dual rings using the RSTP protocol on a single switch. In another embodiment, two dual-ring switches are configured in the same sub-ring for redundancy.

  • Patent number: 8462805
Abstract: A graceful restart (GR) method of a router, and a router and a communication network thereof are provided. The method includes the following steps. A control plane enters a GR state. Label switched path (LSP) packets sent by a neighbor router are received, and the label information of the control plane is recovered according to the LSP packets. Whether the label information is completely recovered is determined. If the label information is completely recovered, the GR state is exited, and label information of a forwarding plane is updated according to the recovered label information of the control plane. The GR method of a router, the router, and the communication network decide whether to exit the GR state by detecting whether the label information of the control plane is completely recovered. This can precisely control the time of exiting the GR state is controlled and improve the reliability of the router.

  • Patent number: 8462795
Abstract: A method and device for transmitting a control message based on a multi-ring Ethernet are provided, wherein the method comprises the following steps: control virtual local area networks of a main ring and a sub-ring are configured (S1002); and a main ring node receives a sub-ring control message from the sub-ring, forwards the sub-ring control massage to the other main ring nodes on the main ring via a data plane, and synchronously realizes the blocking or opening of the sub-ring control message and a data message in the data plane (S1004). The present disclosure solves the problem that the time for the main ring node to process the sub-ring control message is too long during existing control message transmission process, avoids the control message loop situation caused by the transmission of the sub-ring control message over the main ring, and improves the network performance.

  • Patent number: 8456982
Abstract: An approach is provided for enabling fast network restoration. A node, within a network of multiple protocol label switching (MPLS) nodes, detects a failure condition affecting the node. A micro-loop with a neighboring node of the affected node is detected. A label is determined for a subsequent hop from the neighboring node to break the micro-loop for redirecting of traffic to a destination node in the network, wherein the subsequent hop does not create a loop with respect to the affected node.

Abstract: According to embodiments of the invention, a first ring node is arranged to protect against loops in an Ethernet ring by performing Ethernet ring protection (ERP) according to an Ethernet ring protection protocol (ERP) standard. The first ring node is located directly adjacent to at least one second ring node in the Ethernet ring which is not configured to perform ERP according to the same ERP protocol standard. The first ring node is configured to, upon detection of a link failure or recovery event in the Ethernet ring resulting in a flush operation of the filtering database (FDB) in the first ring node in accordance with the ERP protocol standard, send a message to the at least one second ring node which is operable to cause said at least one second ring node to perform a flush operation of its filtering database (FDB). Embodiments of the invention also include an Ethernet ring, a broadband communications network and methods for use in the first ring node and in the Ethernet ring.

Abstract: A method includes obtaining information identifying one or more critical nodes and/or one or more critical links in a multi-hop network. Each critical node or critical link represents a node or link whose failure isolates at least part of the network. The method also includes generating a list identifying one or more orphaned nodes that lose connectivity to a gateway when a specified critical node or critical link fails. The list is generated using an Eigenvector of a matrix defining a topology of the network without the specified critical node or critical link. The method further includes identifying, using the list, at least one location where an additional node can be inserted into the network in order to reduce a number of is critical nodes and critical links in the network. The gateway and the orphaned node(s) can be associated with different values in the Eigenvector.

  • Patent number: 8264952
Abstract: For a ring protection method in a packet transport network a failure is detected at a first network node (N4) in the ring (1, 2). The failure is communicated along the ring (1, 2) using an automatic protection switching protocol. At the first node (N4) or at a second node (N1) adjacent to the failure, a protection switch-over for at least one protected traffic stream (4) is activated by redirecting the traffic stream (4) into the reverse direction of the ring (1, 2). Selected network nodes (N2, N5) along the ring squelch the traffic stream (4) in accordance with pre-configured squelching tables. Squelching is performed only by networks nodes along the ring which perform either an add function or a drop & continue function for the traffic stream (4) to be squelched.
