  • Patent number: 9154410
Abstract: A method and apparatus for optimizing the resilience of a network using a combination of in-band and out-of-band signaling is disclosed. The metric used in the embodiment's algorithm to determine resilience is the maximum number of protected neighbors. Nodes closer to the controller are assigned a higher weight than those further from the controller because if their connection to the network is interrupted, all their downstream nodes will be affected and disconnected. Therefore, when determining a path to the controller, switches with alternate paths to the controller are preferred. Dedicated connections using out-of-band signaling are assigned to convert unprotected nodes to protected nodes thus improving the resilience of the network.

Abstract: Embodiments are directed to efficiently routing data requests from a plurality of tenants and to using smart routing to limit service denials. In an embodiment, a gateway node receives data requests from a tenant subscriber requesting data for an indicated service. The gateway node determines which server node the received data requests are to be routed to. The determination evaluates various criteria associated with the data request. The gateway node queries the determined server node to determine the health of the server nodes and receives a reply from the determined server node indicating the server node's current operating status. The gateway node also, based on the determined server node's reply, routes the received data requests to the determined server node, according to the evaluated criteria.

Abstract: Techniques are presented for automatic tuning of operating parameters, e.g., amplifier gain, in an optical network. A section of an optical network comprises a plurality of spans between optical nodes, and each optical node has an amplifier to amplify optical signals for transmission between optical nodes. Physical network layer data is obtained from the optical nodes for use as input to an analytical model. A set of powers defining an optimum working point of the amplifiers is computed based on variations in amplifier noise figure which depend on amplifier gain. A figure of merit representative of network section performance is computed based on linear and non-linear noise at current power levels of the amplifiers. The figure of merit is evaluated. The set of powers is applied to the amplifiers in the network section when evaluation of the figure of merit indicates that network performance improvement can be achieved.

  • Patent number: 9059834
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and algorithm for stabilizing the output state of an optical transceiver. The method includes comparing a signal quality monitor (SQM) register value with a predetermined threshold. If the SQM register value is less than or equal to the predetermined threshold, a microcontroller unit (MCU) reads and determines the rx_lol state bit value of a clock and data recovery (CDR) chip. If the rx_lol state bit value reaches a low logic level value at least 3 times, the MCU converts the state bit values of rx_lol and mod_nr into low logic level values, or else, convert the state bit values of rx_lol and mod_nr into high logic level values. If the SQM register value is greater than the predetermined threshold then the state bit values of rx_lol and mod_nr will be left unchanged. When there is no data input to the CDR chip, the method of the present invention will maintain rx_lol and mod_nr at high or low logic level values to stabilize the output state of the optical transceiver.

The initiating device may be coupled to an operator's private IP network, or to a network coupled to the user device. The initiating device sends one of the loopback values in a SIP Invite message to the user device, without the use of SIP extensions, in a call. The user device recognizes the loopback value, auto-answers the call, and performs actions according to the provisioned parameters corresponding to the loopback value.

  • Patent number: 8948046
Abstract: A method and system for selecting a route in a wireless network for the transmission of a data packet between wireless nodes in said network using a modified link-state routing algorithm wherein only a limited number of broadcast messages are generated to synchronize the link-state database throughout the wireless network. A subset of nodes called portal nodes within the network are elected to do the broadcasting for the entire network. Each portal node broadcasts an announcement of its identity to all of the wireless nodes. Each wireless node responds to these broadcasts to select one of the portal nodes as its root portal node. It then identifies a unicast route back to its root portal node, and sends a link-state register message to this portal node. These link-state register messages received by each portal node are aggregated by them and are broadcast to each of the wireless nodes for storage.

Abstract: A method of dynamically redirecting traffic in a RapidIO network, which includes a host processor, a plurality of endpoints, and a plurality of switches. The method comprises assigning a “virtual” destination ID (VDID) to each endpoint, after each endpoint has already been provided with an original Destination ID and an original path has been mapped for each pair of endpoints in accordance with the RapidIO protocol, i.e. the routing tables in appropriate switches have been populated with output instructions for packets with specific Destination IDs. Accordingly, one or more redundant routing paths can be programed into the routing tables of appropriate switches between each pair of endpoints, different than the original path therebetween. The switches can therefore steer the packets with VDIDs along redundant routing paths, to avoid damaged links, access isolated switches and/or perform loopback transmissions without having the switches routing tables reprogrammed.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for improving a precoder selection process in a wireless communications system. In a normal precoder selection process, a precoder is selected from a codebook based on channel state information estimated from received reference signals. In between two received reference signals, a subset of precoders is cycled through and each precoder in the subset is iteratively selected for use by a transmitter to precode transmit signals. The subset of precoders may be adaptively modified based on predefined criteria.

  • Patent number: 8891646
Abstract: Multiple antennas employed at transmitting and receiving nodes can significantly increase a MIMO system capacity, especially when channel knowledge of link(s) between the transmitting and receiving nodes is available at the transmitting node. Channel knowledge may be acquired through feedback provided by the receiving node based on a plurality of common pilots transmitted by the transmitting node. The common pilots may include legacy and non-legacy pilots. If the feedback indicates that data demodulation at the receiving node can be enhanced, the transmitting node may also transmit demodulation pilot signal(s), which may coincide with the transmission of data. The receiving node can use the demodulation pilot signal(s), alone or with the common pilot signal(s), to demodulate data received from the transmitting node. The transmitting node may notify the receiving node to monitor for the demodulation pilot signal(s) through higher layer signaling and/or scheduling orders over a control channel.
