Abstract: Integrated circuits are provided that use on-chip data compression and decompression to minimize consumption of interconnect resources. Parallel-to-serial converter circuitry can use time-division multiplexing techniques to compress data. The compressed data may be conveyed between circuit blocks on the integrated circuit using a reduced number of parallel interconnect conductors. After the compressed data has been conveyed to its destination, a serial-to-parallel converter may use time-division demultiplexing techniques to decompress the data. Interconnect resources may be shared by dedicated circuits. With this arrangement, signals can be selectively steered through the appropriate dedicated circuitry to either maximize performance or to use compression and decompression to minimize interconnect resource consumption.

The arbitration process is custom-tailored for individual applications, under software control, by the transponder reader or tag reader. Different wake-up slots are calculated for each tag during successive transmission cycles based upon the tag ID and the transmission cycle number. The tag reader may also send a special command to a tag to read its data and cause the tag to become decoupled from the environment. The tags may be selectively placed in either a tag-talk-first mode or a reader-talk-first mode. • Patent number: 7046639
Abstract: A system and method of providing distributed election of a shared transmission schedule within an ad hoc network. The invention includes a collision-free access protocol which resolves channel access contentions for time division multiple access (TDMA) of a single channel. Time-slots are organized into part numbers, which are included within sections, a sequence of which define a block. Each node is given a ring number according to its location within the network topology and maintains local neighbor information along with its own part number and message digest. Collision-free channel access is automatically scheduled and repetitious contention phases are resolved by a random permutation algorithm operating in message digests. An empty time-slot utilization method is also described and data packets may also be transmitted subject to a non-zero collision probability within a blind section of the block.

  • Patent number: 6956814
Abstract: A satellite system employing time diversity and a single frequency network of terrestrial re-radiation stations is provided wherein each terrestrial re-radiation station inserts a delay into a terrestrial signal. The delay allows the time of arrival of the early time diversity signal at the center of terrestrial coverage to coincide with the arrival of the corresponding late time diversity signal, thereby improving hand-off between terrestrial and satellite signals at a receiver. The delay also adjusts for distance differences between each terrestrial re-radiation station and the satellite and between each station and the center of the terrestrial coverage region. This adjustment optimizes the TDM-MCM reception by synchronizing at the center of the SFN the phase of the MCM signals re-radiated from the re-radiating stations of the SFN.

Abstract: A “time multiplexed” transmission scheme capable of reducing the amount of interference from other cells operated at the same frequency band. Each cell in a system transmits in designated time intervals (e.g., time slots) during which other interfering cells may be prevented from transmitting. By temporarily “blanking” transmissions from interfering cells during the designated time slots, the amount of interference from these cells is reduced. The improved signal quality may support transmission at a desired or higher data rate, which may not be possible without cell blanking. In one variant, transmissions from the cells are staggered over different time slots. A set of one or more cells may be designated to transmit in each of a number of slot phases. The cells transmit in a staggered manner on these phases to reduce interference. The transmission scheme may be used for a various channel types (e.g., a control channel) and applications.

Abstract: A method and arrangement for processing of CCTrCH data in a UMTS system, by: receiving CCTrCH data across a plurality of radio frames and timeslots (310); storing the received CCTrCH data (320); and upon receipt of complete data for a CCTrCH, processing the stored CCTrCH data through channel processing asynchronously to the received timeslot structure (360). Preferably, the received CCTrCH data is stored in a single RAM memory in link-list form, whereby each timeslot of received CCTrCH data can be independently accessed in the memory. This method of buffering the different parts of the received CCTrCH data, so that they can be recombined before the TrCH decoding and de-multiplexing, is both memory efficient and spreads out the processing load over time.

Abstract: Methods, apparatus and articles of manufacture are provided for a configurable downhole tool. The downhole tool includes a plurality of devices each of which is configured for one or more functions. At some point during operation (e.g., during system initialization), the presence of each device disposed on the downhole tool is detected. Each device may then begin performing its respective function or functions. For example, some devices may be configured to collect environmental data while the tool is disposed in a wellbore. In one embodiment, the collected data is provided to a transceiver. The transceiver then transmits the data from the downhole tool to some remove receiving unit, which may be located at the surface of the wellbore.

Abstract: The transmission of high-speed data traffic in IPDLs at a base station of a cellular communications network is controlled. An IPDL is identified which occurs within a set of time slots of a given channel. The channel may comprise a dedicated time slot channel or a packet-oriented time slot channel. More specifically, the channel may comprise a Dedicated Physical Control Channel or a High Speed Downlink Shared Channel. The information within a time slot of the set is shifted. In accordance with one aspect of the invention, the information is shifted to a reduced portion of the time slot of the channel by reducing a spread spectrum factor for the signal carrying the information and increasing the transmission power of the signal. A remaining portion of the time slot spans at least a duration of the identified IPDL. In accordance with another aspect of the invention, the information within the time slot is shifted to another time slot of the channel.

Each handset has a handset transceiver for establishing a time-division multiple access (TDMA) link over a shared channel with the base unit via the base transceiver, in which each handset communicates during an exclusive time slot of a TDMA scheme that allocates time slots to handsets during an exclusive time slot of a TDMA scheme that allocates time slots to active handsets for receiving a spread spectrum signal comprising successive chips representing successive symbols. Each receiver has one or more demodulation loops for demodulating the received spread spectrum signal, wherein each demodulation loop is characterized by one or more demodulation loop parameters. A parallel correlator of the receiver detects a peak bin and provides the peak bin and two adjacent bins.

  • Patent number: 6553008
Abstract: A multidirectional time-division multiplexing wireless data communications system can prevent erroneous data from being transmitted through a data communication line even when a bit error has occurred in transmission data. An error correcting redundant bit, obtained by performing an error correcting code operation on a low-speed continuous signal, is multiplexed to a specific vacant slot in a wireless frame. A burst signal, converted by a continuous/burst signal conversion circuit through an interleaving operation, is multiplexed to a predetermined time slot, and transmitted to a wireless area. The burst signal is received by the conversion circuit, and converted into a continuous signal through a de-interleaving operation. A division circuit divides an error correcting code to generate a syndrome. Based on the syndrome, an error position detection circuit specifies bit error position in data, and an addition circuit corrects errors.
