Abstract: A user terminal for receiving a plurality of data pieces for a plurality of processes that are simultaneously operated. Each of the data pieces has an indicator indicating whether the data piece is new data and is transmitted from a network apparatus that changes an indicator value on a process-by-process basis. The user terminal includes a data receiving unit for receiving the data piece having the indicator, a response transmitting unit for transmitting a response indicating an acknowledgement or a negative acknowledgement for the received data piece, and an indicator determination unit for determining whether the indicator of the received data piece is the same as the indicator of a previous data piece received immediately previously for the same process as the process of the received data piece and whether the response for the previous data piece indicates the acknowledgement to discard the received data piece.

  • Patent number: 8923226
Abstract: Various methods and apparatus are directed to achieving timing synchronization and propagating timing information pertaining to an external, e.g., non Wi-Fi, timing signal source. In some embodiments, a mobile communications device receives and processes a timing signal, e.g., a first Wi-Fi beacon, which is propagating timing information about an external timing signal from a device which directly received the external timing signal. Thus, a mobile wireless communications device achieves timing synchronization with respect to an external timing signal which it is unable to receive directly. In various embodiments, the mobile communications device may, and sometimes does, further propagate the timing information about the external timing signal, e.g., via a second Wi-Fi beacon signal which it generates and transmits. Synchronization with respect to an external signal source facilitates longer sleep states and decreased power consumption.

  • Patent number: 8891387
Abstract: In a communication system, user equipment (UE) conditionally performs uplink transmit diversity (ULTD) either by Switched Antenna Transmit Diversity (SATD) or Beamforming Transmit Diversity (BFTD) using a first antenna and a second antenna. Either a serving node or the UE determines that uplink transmit diversity is conditionally authorized. Either a serving node or the UE measures a value. The UE transmits using ULTD in response to determining that an enabling condition based on the value is satisfied. The UE can also disable uplink transmit diversity in response to determining that a disabling condition based on the value is satisfied. The disabling condition comprises a disabling threshold that equals the enabling condition comprising an enabling threshold with a threshold adjustment for hysteresis.

  • Patent number: 8891455
Abstract: A system and method for synchronous spectrum sharing for a dedicated network in a wireless communication system based on orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) or orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) signaling is disclosed. The system and method includes detecting a frame of a broadcast waveform and extracting idle spectrum information associated with the dedicated subchannel to the secondary user node. The system allows transmitting data from the secondary user node in unused symbol slots identified in the idle spectrum information thereby making efficient use of unused or idle spectrum. Accordingly, secondary users of the wireless communication system can dynamically form ad-hoc mesh network communications in fixed or mobile scenarios.

  • Patent number: 8891504
Abstract: An arbitration mechanism provides quality of service guarantees for time-sensitive signals sharing a local area computer network with non-time-sensitive traffic. Device adapters are placed at all access points to an Ethernet network. The device adapters limit admission rates and control the timing of all packets entering the network. By doing so, collisions are eliminated for timesensitive traffic, thereby guaranteeing timely delivery. A common time reference is established for the device adapters. The time reference includes a frame with a plurality of phases. Each of the phases is assigned to a device adapter. Each device adapter is allowed to transmit packets of data onto the network only during the phase assigned thereto. The length of the phases may be modified in accordance with the number of packets to be transmitted by a particular device adapter. A master device adapter may be appointed to synchronize each of the device adapters.

Abstract: A base station includes a reception unit, a channel allocation unit, a relay channel designation unit, and a transmission unit. The reception unit receives a signal from a communication terminal communicating with the base station via a relay device. The channel allocation unit allocates a communication channel to the communication terminal communicating with the base station via the relay device. The relay channel designation unit designates a communication channel for a signal relayed by the relay device such that the communication channel allocated by the channel allocation unit to the communication terminal communicating with the base station via the relay device is included therein. The transmission unit transmits, to the relay device, a notification signal for notifying the relay device of the communication channel designated by the relay channel designation unit.

Abstract: System(s), method(s), and device(s) that enable release of backhaul capacity associated with base stations are presented. During soft handover, a communication device can have its connection maintained with more than one base station. A link controller component can identify a radio link having the highest quality and can determine the relative backhaul load of each base station communicating with the communication device. The link controller component determines whether the base station having the highest radio link quality is experiencing the heaviest backhaul load relative to the other base stations. If the base station with the highest link quality does not also have the heaviest backhaul load, the link controller component identifies the base station having the heaviest backhaul load and the identified base station can have its status modified with respect to the communication device for a desired period of time, in accordance with predefined status modification criteria.
