Abstract: Variable-length information-containing frames (e.g., MPDUs) are aggregated into a bitstream using frame delimiters to distinguish the frames. Aggregation and frame extraction techniques are provided that support recovery from bit errors that may be present in a frame delimiter. One class of techniques involves providing redundant length information in the frame delimiters, e.g., by using multiple copies of a length field or error correction codes usable to correct errors in the length field. The receiver can use the redundant information to detect and correct errors in the length field. Another receiver-side technique iteratively attempts to locate the end of the corresponding frame when a corrupt frame delimiter is detected. Conventional synchronization fields may be eliminated.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for modifying at least one connection parameter of a circuit switched terminal device, wherein the at least one connection parameter can be modified at a called terminal by a corresponding input operation after the receipt of a setup signaling message. The connection parameter is incorporated in an answer signaling message to be transmitted in response to the setup message, and compared with a negotiated connection parameter. Based on the comparison result, a parameter modification is initiated. Thereby, a discreet and fast slip from an offered to a wanted service can be offered at little message traffic.

Abstract: A limited acknowledgement-based communication methodology increases the throughput efficiency of extended range, wireless packetized data transmissions to a ‘master’ data-reception site from a ‘slave’ data-sourcing site, geographically remote with respect to the data-reception site. Rather than return an acknowledgement for each received packet, the master returns an acknowledgement only after receipt of a group of packets. When returning an acknowledgement, the master identifies which packets of the group were not successfully received. Missing packets may be retransmitted by the slave transmitter either immediately, or in response to a subsequent poll by the master.

  • Patent number: 7359353
Abstract: Various embodiments are described herein to address the need to have a method and apparatus that improve the resource efficiency of inter-PDSN (142 to 141) dormant mode handoffs. Promptly after the completion of signaling (218) for PPP connection establishment and MIP registration (if supported), as required for an inter-PDSN dormant mode handoff, an access network (AN) 121 expedites the release of communication resources such as the wireless traffic channel, the SCCP connection, and the A8 bearer connection. Thus, in an inter-PDSN dormant mode handoff the packet data session of an MS (101) is promptly transitioned back to the dormant packet data state. This enables communication resources to be freed for other calls and/or handoffs in a more timely manner than is enabled today.

  • Patent number: 7330542
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for establishing a connection to a terminal device, wherein a user capability information defining supported types of information streams is set in a compatibility information element within an outband signaling message, and a capability negotiation is performed by transmitting said outband signaling message via an outband control channel. The code or user capability information may be set at the terminal device or at an intermediate network element based on a subscriber profile information obtained from a subscriber database. Thereby, the user capability, such as a multimedia session composition, can be already negotiated or handled during the outband call setup phase, and a corresponding inband negotiation can be avoided.

  • Patent number: 7310356
Abstract: Systems and methods for automatically discovering the configuration of network and/or communication facilities are provided. The determination generally involves receiving and/or sending at least one test message or packet with special characteristics that normally would be filtered by filtering/forwarding entities in connectionless routed cores, but normally would be forwarded by connectionless communication facilities. If the communication facilities do not contain the filtering/forwarding entity, the at least one test packet will be forwarded or passed through the communication facilities. If the at least one test packet is filtered or not passed, then at least two scenarios are possible. First, the at least one test packet may be filtered and may be silently discarded in which case a determination that the network did not pass the at least one test packet may be made based upon a timeout of a counter.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for communicating control information in a switch fabric. The method comprises: on a switch card, establishing a plurality of crossbars controlled by an arbiter; initiating a control message; and, distributing the control message on a switch card token bus connecting the crossbars and arbiter elements. Distributing the control message on a switch card token bus connecting the crossbar and arbiter elements includes daisy-chain connecting the elements with a cyclical bus. In some aspects of the method, establishing a plurality of crossbars controlled by an arbiter includes identifying each element with a unique address. Then, initiating a control message includes initiating a control message with an attached address. Distributing the control message on a switch card token bus includes the substeps of: daisy-chain passing the control message between elements; and, terminating the message at an element having an address matching the address attached to the control message.
