Having Supervisory Signaling Patents (Class 370/377)
  • Patent number: 5936942
Abstract: It is important to report alarm signals rapidly and reliably to the master control units responsible for automatically responding to these alarm signals. Advantageously this is accomplished by transmitting the alarm signals through a switching network of a telecommunications switch, using auxiliary signaling bits provided with each time slot that is switched through the network. The alarm signals are encoded in groups of eight, using one bit of each of eight related time slots to provide an alarm signal within one frame of a digital transmission signal.

  • Patent number: 5848053
Abstract: A method or apparatus for offering multiple switch access to selected lines and trunks of a multiple telecommunications switch complex. The selected lines and trunks are connected to peripheral units whose outputs are distributed by a network to a group of switches. The switches are interconnected by a second network. Advantageously, the selected lines can be served by several switches so that the failure of one switch does not deprive these lines of service. Advantageously, the two networks and the group of switches form a giant switch having high reliability.

  • Patent number: 5815490
Abstract: A method of managing a telecommunication subnetwork system composed of a number of network elements coupled together through an optical medium to form a Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) network ring. Each of the network elements receives upon initiation or reconfiguration and then stores an identical ring table or knowledge database that is composed of data in a predetermined format and structure. The ring table defines the ring type and ring identification, number of nodes, ring status, node identification, sequence, and status, and provides ring provisioning tables and embedded SDH ring path identification/status information. The ring table is utilized in each of the network elements for provisioning and other management type functions common within a SDH ring environment.

  • Patent number: 5793761
Abstract: Communication system (KS) having a user facility system (LMS) for the realization of user facilities and having a switching system (VS) for setting up and clearing down connections between connected subscriber terminal equipment (TE) and for reporting switching-oriented events as well as user facility activation and user facility deactivation requests to the user facility system (LMS). The user facility system (LMS) has a plurality of user facility modules (LMB) and a user facility executive sequencer (LMAS) communicating therewith. The user facility modules (LMB) can call user facility development modules made available by the user facility executive sequencer (LMAS). Messages from the user facility executive sequencer (LMAS) about switching-oriented events occurring in the switching system (VS), is a facility activation and user facility deactivation messages as well as data input by subscriber terminal equipment (TE) are respectively communicated to a specific user facility module (LMB).

  • Patent number: 5771231
Abstract: An ATM exchange having an ATM switch for switching a cell, which has arrived from a prescribed incoming line, to a prescribed outgoing line based upon a VPI/VCI contained in the header of the cell is provided with a call processor for executing call processing control, and with a traffic processor for collecting traffic data. The call processor executes call processing control based upon a connect/disconnect request, and the traffic processor collects traffic data (NDC data, PM data, billing data) in a subscriber line or traffic data in a transmission line. This makes it possible to collect and edit traffic data and billing data without burdening the call processor.

  • Patent number: 5724347
Abstract: An integrated network switch is disclosed. The network includes a plurality of peripheral shelves, each having a plurality of ports for respective peripheral devices, and a common control. An interface is disposed between the common control and the peripheral shelves- A plurality of switches are included in the common control, each having switch ports for selectively interconnecting ports corresponding to the peripheral devices. Each of the switches has an assigned identification and each of the peripheral shelves has an assigned identification, including a shelf type and port numbers associated with the identified peripheral shelf. Provision is made for identifying an available switch, for ports associated with each shelf to be connected to the switch. Also, provision is made for dynamically designating ports of the identified peripheral shelf to switch ports of the available switch.

  • Patent number: 5661725
Abstract: Dynamic reconfiguration of T1 access channels to various Nodal (network) services can be realized by applying carefully devised trunk-conditioning signals to disconnected channels to provide proper system responses and prevent billing errors as well as unwanted alarm conditions. Trunk-conditioning with specific signals in binary sequences are defined for Terminal lines and Private Branch Exchange ("PBX") lines for the popular signalling type of E&M, LS, GS and PLAR. A steady idle signal is recommended for Terminal line conditioning; and a short duration of idle signal followed by a steady busy signal for inter-switch applications (eg. PBX to 4ESS.TM.) while loss of connectivity exists. This technique can be used in implementing the RINA service function for services offered by AT&T and any similar service provider. The service function will allow for greater access flexibility and better utilization of access bandwidth as well as network services.

  • Patent number: 5612954
Abstract: A digital time switch system includes a switch core and a number of switch ports. The digital time switch system is intended for use in a telecommunication network, in which the switch ports share the bandwidth of a bus by time-division multiplexing. The bus is separated into time slots that are assembled into frames. Data transmission between the switch ports is performed in time slots that have been assigned to a respective switch port by a superior control unit so as to prevent bus conflict. Each switch port has access to the whole bandwidth of the bus and chooses through the superior control unit the data which is intended for the switch port. Logic in the switch ports is arranged to give a certain logical value to data directed to the switch core and appearing in unassigned time slots.

  • Patent number: 5311588
Abstract: There is disclosed a method and system for determining the progress of a calling connection. The system measures the peak voltage of the signals on the line and derives a ratio of these peak signals to the average value of the signal. From this ratio a determination is made as to the calling condition of the line.

  • Patent number: 5112570
Abstract: In a boiling water reactor having discrete bundles of fuel rods confined within channel enclosed fuel assemblies, an improved fuel design of bundles of fuel rods interior of the channels is disclosed. Specifically, partial length rods are utilized which extend from the bottom of the channel only part way to the top of the channel. These partial length rods are symmetrically distributed throughout the fuel bundle with the preferred disposition being in the second row of the bundle of fuel rods from the channel wall. The symmetrical distribution of the partial length rods is at spaced apart locations one from another. During shutdown of the reactor, an improved cold shutdown margin is produced at the top of the fuel assembly due to the improved moderator-to-fuel ratio and reduction in plutonium formation at the upper portion of the bundle. Shutdown control rod worth is improved due to greater moderator-to-fuel ratio and a longer thermal neutron diffusion length.
