  • Patent number: 8102809
Abstract: This invention is a method for time-sharing sounding resources. This invention time-shares one sounding source across plural user equipment for different sub-frames. This invention uses different sounding periods which are periodic and either non-changing in time or changing in time. Different user equipment have sounding periodicities where one is an integral multiple of the other. This invention also allocates and updates a sub-frame offset for each user equipment.

  • Patent number: 8102810
Abstract: The wireless communication device and corresponding method described herein selectively switches between a single-frequency mode, such as appropriate for an EDGE network, and a multiple-frequency mode, such as appropriate for a multi-carrier EDGE network. Accordingly, a transmitting wireless communication device selectively switches between a single-channel mapping unit, used during the single-frequency mode, and a multi-channel mapping unit, used during the multiple-frequency mode. The multi-channel mapping unit modulates input data to output a modulated data stream for each of multiple adjacent frequency channels that, when combined, produce a multiple-frequency signal with reduced peak-to-average ratio. A receiving wireless communication device selectively switches between a single-channel demodulator, used during the single-frequency mode, and a multi-channel demodulator, used during the multiple-frequency mode.

Abstract: A first aspect of the invention is a method of transmitting data packets over a transmission channel shared by a plurality of users, based on the time and/or frequency diversity slotted Aloha technique, in which at least two replicas of each packet to be transmitted are sent over said transmission channel, wherein each replica transports signaling information enabling the other replica(s) of the same packet to be located in the time and/or frequency domain. A second aspect of the invention is a method of recovering packets in the receiver, the method exploiting said signaling information to execute an interference cancellation algorithm for recovering packets corrupted by collisions caused by access conflicts. Other aspects of the invention are a transmitter equipment and a receiver packet recovery equipment adapted to use said methods.

Abstract: A method for communication includes deploying a half-duplex terminal in a wireless full-duplex communication network configured to permit simultaneous transmission of downlink paging messages and uplink access messages between a base station and full-duplex mobile terminals in the network. The half-duplex terminal is assigned paging channel slots in a cyclical sequence of the paging channel slots, so that the base station transmits the downlink paging messages to the half-duplex terminal only during the assigned paging channel slots. The half-duplex terminal is controlled so that the half-duplex terminal transmits the uplink access messages only during an interval bounded by the assigned paging channel slots occurring in successive cycles in the sequence.

Abstract: A sequence distributing and sequence processing method and apparatus in a communication system are provided. The sequence distributing method includes the following steps of: generating sequence groups including a number of sequences, the sequences in the sequence groups are determined according to the sequence time frequency resource occupation manner which is supported by the system; distributing the sequence groups to cells. The method avoids the phenomenon that signaling transmission is needed to distribute the sequences to the cells for different time frequency resource occupation manner, and saves in so far as possible the wireless network transmission resource occupied during the process of distributing the sequences through distributing the sequence groups comprising a number of sequences to the cells.

  • Patent number: 7924803
Abstract: A method and a system for selecting antennas in an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) network. The network includes a base station and mobile stations. The mobile station includes multiple antennas. The base station and the mobile stations communicate with each other using frames. The base station transmits a down-link (DL) subframe of the frame to the mobile station. The DL subframe allocates one or more symbols and one or more subcarriers of an up-link (UL) subframe of the frame for antenna selection signals. The mobile station transmits the UL subframe including the antenna selection signals at the allocated subcarriers and symbols to the base station. Then, the base station selects a subset of the antennas based on the antenna selection signals.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for supporting peer to peer communications are described. A plurality of wide area network communications bands in a wireless communications system are also available for use to communicate peer to peer signals. Some WAN bands may be, and sometimes are unused by a base station for WAN communications at a particular location. A peer to peer communications device monitors one or more WAN communications bands. Received signals in the monitored band or bands are compared to threshold criteria. In one embodiment, if the peer to peer communications device finds that no signal is detected in the monitored band or that the received evaluated signal from the monitored band is below a specified threshold level, then the peer to peer wireless terminal is allowed to use a band which is either the monitored band or a band corresponding to the monitored band for peer to peer signaling.

  • Patent number: 7877061
Abstract: A method reduces channel interference in a communication system that includes base stations and terminal stations with each base station having a plurality of sectors, each sector having a channel, and with each terminal station associated with a sector of a base station. A first set of terminal stations associated with a first sector that may potentially interfere with a second set of terminal stations associated with a second sector is determined. A first frequency sub-channel for use by the first set of terminal stations is selected and a second frequency sub-channel for use by the second set of terminal stations is selected. Transmissions by the first set of terminal stations are coordinated with transmissions by the second set of terminal stations, thereby reducing channel interference between the terminal stations of the first set and the terminal stations of the second set, as seen by a base station in the first or second sector.
