Abstract: A method for performing evolved multimedia broadcast and multicast service (eMBMS) counting efficiently in wireless systems is provided. The method includes receiving by a radio link control (RLC) layer of a User Equipment (UE), a Multicast Control Channel (MCCH) packet containing an MBMS counting request from a network. The RLC layer then transfers the MCCH packet to a Radio Resource Control (RRC) layer of the UE. The RRC layer processes the MBMS counting request and generating an MBMS counting response by and transmits an indication for successful reception of the MBMS counting request to the RLC layer. The RLC layer verifies if a subsequent MCCH modification boundary indication is received in a selected MCCH modification period and discards one or more subsequent MCCH packets received in a selected MCCH modification period if the MCCH modification boundary indication is not received from a physical layer.

  • Patent number: 9860854
Abstract: In data transmission between a mobile terminal and a cellular network, a network component, e.g., a base station, establishes a downlink connection from the cellular network to the mobile terminal. The downlink connection uses one or more downlink carriers. Further, the network component identifies multiple uplink carriers which are available for establishing an uplink connection from the mobile terminal to the cellular network. The network component estimates impact of usage of the uplink carriers on power consumption of the mobile terminal. Depending on the estimated impact, the network component selects at least one of the uplink carriers for establishing the uplink connection.

Abstract: Techniques for communicating on multiple carriers in a wireless communication network are described. In an aspect, different transmit power levels may be used for different carriers to mitigate interference. A first base station may be assigned one or more carriers among multiple carriers available for communication. A second base station may be assigned one or more carriers not assigned to the first base station. Each base station may communicate on each assigned carrier at a first (e.g., full) transmit power level and may communicate on each unassigned carrier at a second (e.g., lower) transmit power level lower. The first and second base stations may belong in different power classes or support different association types. In another aspect, control information may be sent on a designated carrier to support communication on multiple carriers. In yet another aspect, a base station may broadcast bar information indicating the status of carriers.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed that dynamically allocate communications resources in a wireless communications network, such as a wireless personal area network (WPAN). For instance, a wireless communications device may obtain a resource allocation. This resource allocation includes a time slot (e.g., a TDMA time slot) within a wireless communications medium. The device determines a first portion of the time slot in which it intends to transmit data. Also, the wireless communications device relinquishes a second portion of the time slot that occurs after the first portion of the time slot. Based on this relinquishment, a central controller device may reallocate the second portion of the time slot.

Abstract: An exemplary method implemented by a first end-user communication device originates an electronic communication. User input is received to create information to be conveyed by the transmission of a digital packet having a header segment and a user data segment. The user data segment contains a user message and a priority value where the priority value conveys a corresponding message priority to a recipient device. The priority value and the user message are determined by the user of the first end-user communication device. Under the control of a first module of an enhanced services application program, a composition screen is displayed by which the user input including the user message is entered. Visual indicia indicative of a current message priority to be assigned to the user message is displayed on the composition. The first module causes insertion of the priority value corresponding to the current message priority in a priority field in the user data segment prior to transmission of the digital packet.
