Arbitration For Access To A Channel Patents (Class 370/462)
  • Publication number: 20090016373
Abstract: A time slot selection device is provided that can consider resource use states on its own and allocate time slots. The time slot selection device performs time slot allocation, based on data link identifiers that identify a group of data links specified by a path setup request, a time slot size that is information about a required band, and a required number that is the number of contiguous time slots required. In this time slot selection device, a resource allocation section performs time slot selection, based on the resource use state of each time slot. By the time slot selection with consideration given to the use state of each time slot in the group of data links, time slots to be used can be selected so that a maximum number of contiguous usable time slots will be left. Thus, it is possible to efficiently use resources.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to methods and systems for allocating bandwidth (or other shared resource) among multiple masters. According to an aspect of the present invention, an arbiter assigns a bucket to each CPU (or other device) where each bucket holds the credits for that CPU. Each bucket has a predetermined fill rate and a drain rate. Depending on the priority given to a particular CPU, the corresponding bucket will drain (or fill) at a particular rate. For example, CPUs with a higher priority will drain at a slower rate. For each clock tick (or other period of time) that a CPU is stalled, a number of credits is accrued. The bucket with the highest number of credits has priority and will be given access to the shared resource (e.g., DRAM, SDRAM, SRAM, EPROM, etc.).

Abstract: A switch, switched architecture and process for transferring data through an FCAL switch is disclosed. The switch uses multiple switch control circuits each coupled to one FCAL network and all connected to a crossbar switch. The switch control circuits are coupled together by a protocol bus for coordination purposes. Local conversations can occur on each FCAL loop and crossing conversations through the switch can occur concurrently. The OPN primitive is used to establish the connection before any data is transferred thereby eliminating the need for buffer memory in the switch control circuits. The destination address of each OPN is used to address a lookup table in each switch control circuit to determine if the destination node is local. If not, the destination is looked up and a connection request made on the protocol bus. If the remote port is not busy, it sends a reply which causes both ports to establish a data path through the backplane crossbar switch.

Abstract: A multi-tone synchronous collision resolution system permits communication nodes within a MANET to contend simultaneously for a plurality of available channels. The SPF consults session prioritization policies and the contextual information to make an informed decision. If the load on the IMS network is normal or light, the SPF utilizes an upper limit policy to limit resources for each service class. Abstract: Systems and methods for contention based tones in a multipoint-to-point orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system are provided. In one embodiment, a multipoint-to-point, orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) communication system comprises: a host unit; a plurality of remote units that access the host unit using an orthogonal frequency division multiple access scheme; wherein each of the remote units modulates upstream information into an OFDM signal modulated using a Fourier transform; wherein the host unit receives upstream OFDM signals from a plurality of the remote units, wherein portions of the upstream OFDM signals arrive at the host unit at the same time; wherein a first remote unit transmits a first upstream signal to the host unit on a first orthogonal tone; and wherein the first remote unit retransmits the first upstream signal to the host unit in the event a collision occurs on the first orthogonal tone.

  • Patent number: 7395309
Abstract: A method for reducing Internet bandwidth used for data transfer between an originating modem and an answering modem over a VoIP connection is provided. Idle data received from the originating modem is detected by an Internet node. The Internet node does not forward the detected received idle data over the VoIP connection. To keep the modem connection between the originating modem and the answering modem alive, the Internet node regenerates idle data and transmits the regenerated idle data to the answering modem upon detecting no data received for forwarding to the answering modem.

  • Patent number: 7385945
Abstract: In an access point operating in a wireless local area network, a method is disclosed for assisting a radio manager to manage a radio environment without location information. By performing radio discovery to receive beacon signals from neighboring access points, an initial configuration of a radio environment is generated based on the received beacon signals. Measurements are received from a client device that performs measurements by a user walking through a desired coverage area while operating the client device and the radio configuration is adjusted based on the received measurements.

  • Patent number: 7386004
Abstract: A broadcasting system which can monitor all input devices for their operating conditions, the broadcasting system includes input devices 11-1M for receiving sound, output devices 31-3N for broadcasting sound, and a controller 4. These features are interconnected through a network 2. In response to a broadcasting request from an arbitrary input device, the controller 4 delivers routing data indicative of a combination of the input device, which has made the broadcasting request, with an output device which should broadcast the sound from the input device to all the input devices 11-1M. The routing data includes priority data indicative of a priority thereof, so that a display unit of each input device makes a display based on the priority data included in the routing data when it receives the routing data from the controller 4.

  • Patent number: 7386645
Abstract: An electronic system comprises a defined number N of functional modules, including a defined number P of initiator modules and a defined number Q of target modules, where N, P and Q are integer numbers such that 2?P?N and 1?Q?N. In the event of a plurality of conflicting requests to access a common resource originating from a plurality of respective initiator modules, an arbitration unit grants an exclusive right of access to the resource to a defined one of these initiator modules. The arbitration unit is constructed either to apply a standard arbitration mechanism to these respective initiators, or to apply as a priority a specific arbitration mechanism only to the members of a subset of these initiator modules, for each of which it receives a linked privileged access signal.

  • Patent number: 7385999
Abstract: A method of communicating over a network of nodes using a plurality of broadcast channels. Each channel facilitates the transmission and reception of data during cycles of time divided into discrete time frames. Each frame is divided into a plurality of slots. Each node in the network is configured to broadcast, to other nodes within one hop of said node, on a common bootstrap channel during a first bootstrap slot, slot assignment information relating to any of the broadcast channels. Each node is assigned to communicate over a broadcast channel that is one of the plurality of broadcast channels. Each node broadcasts, on its assigned channel during a second bootstrap slot, slot assignment information relating to the assigned broadcast channel to other nodes within one hop of said node and on said assigned channel. Each node communicates according to the slot assignment information.

  • Patent number: 7385972
If the remote port is not busy, it sends a reply which, causes both ports to establish a data path through the backplane crossbar switch.
