Wireless Or Radio Patents (Class 370/913)
  • Patent number: 9088982
Abstract: Access to an access point is restricted to a plurality of client devices having wireless connections with the access point. The wireless connections conform to a wireless networking protocol. A first data transmission rate is the lowest data transmission rate defined by the wireless networking protocol. It is determined that a second data transmission rate is used between a first client device of the plurality of client devices and the access point. The second data transmission rate is the lowest data transmission rate used by the plurality of client devices. The second data transmission rate is greater than the first data transmission rate. Responsive to said determining that the second data transmission rate is the lowest data transmission rate used by the plurality of client devices, a beacon frame data transmission rate is set to the second data transmission rate.

  • Patent number: 8885453
Abstract: Enhanced stomp-and-restart techniques are provided. At a plurality of antennas of a wireless communication device, energy is received in a channel in which one or more frames may be transmitted to the wireless communication device from any one of a plurality of other wireless communication devices. A first frame is acquired from the received energy. Channel state information is computed for the first frame and the channel state information associated with the first frame is stored. Interference suppression parameters are computed for the first frame from the channel state information. It is determined whether a stronger second frame is being received by the wireless communication device. The received energy associated with the first frame is nulled-out using the interference suppression parameters when the stronger second frame is determined to be received so that start-of-packet processing and decoding is performed on the stronger second frame.

Abstract: A system and method in a wireless network for discovering which resources (e.g., other wireless computing devices) are proximate a user's wireless computing device. Wireless signal strengths with respect to various base stations are compared with the signal strengths of other network devices or resources, to determine which devices are experiencing similar signal strengths. Devices with similar signal strengths are deemed proximate. Each participating computing device may send its signal strength reports to a proximity server, which distributes proximity data to network clients. Each client may receive and process the signal strength data for determining which other clients/resources are proximate, or the server can perform proximity computations and return a list of proximate clients. The tools and methods estimate the quality of service and the capacity of the high-speed data channel, and also estimate the impact of the high-speed data channels on the quality of service and traffic capacity of other voice and data services on the same radio channel. The tools and method can be used in a wireless network planning tool to analyze a network that uses a radio carrier exclusively for high-speed data channels, such as cdma2000 EV-DO. The tools and method can also be used to analyze a network that combines high-speed data channels and CDMA based services on the same radio carrier, such as cdma2000 EV-DV or WCDMA HSDPA.

  • Patent number: 7577107
Abstract: A method is presented for message-initiated constraint-based routing for digital message communication among nodes in an ad-hoc network, in which each node includes attributes having attribute values. The method includes determining local attributes for each of the nodes in the ad-hoc network and defining constraints on the attributes. Each node is provided access to the attributes of each neighboring node, with a neighboring node being a node that is one hop away. Each message transmitted over the ad-hoc network has a message type, which includes a destination specification, route specification, and objective specification. Constraint checking and cost estimation checking are performed for each message type.

  • Patent number: 7484120
Abstract: A base station, mobile station, and/or other terminal device includes physical layer (layer 1) protocol and link layer (layer 2) protocol that both include automatic retransmission request (ARQ) operations. The physical layer and link layer include enhancements that interact with one another to cause the link layer to inhibit ARQ operations while error recovery operations are pending at the physical layer. A transmitter packages link layer packet data units into physical layer frames and transmits the physical layer frames. A receiver responds to indicate either successful or unsuccessful transmission. The transmitting physical layer waits for the response and initiates error recovery operations when required. The receiving link layer, when it detects lost data packets, inhibits its ARQ operations to allow physical layer error recovery operations to complete.

  • Patent number: 7461191
Abstract: A memory access technique is provided that may be used in WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) communication devices. An on-chip memory has multiple memory circuits forming individually addressable memory segments. An arbitration unit arbitrates between multiple requesters, each requesting access to the on-chip memory. The requesters are on-chip circuits and/or external devices. The arbitration unit determines a memory circuit to be accessed for each request that is received from a requester. The determination may be based on a software configurable arbitration scheme. The memory segments may form a bank of single-port SRAM (Static Random Access Memory) devices.

  • Patent number: 7430435
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for performing a protocol that optimizes a transmission power in a network. The apparatus and the method perform a protocol that optimizes the transmission power in the network for point-to-multipoint communication (1:N). The apparatus includes a communication unit for sending and receiving a data packet through the air, and a control unit that outputs a control signal for controlling the transmission power according to connection information of the data packet received through the communication unit. The connection information includes a reception signal strength and/or link quality information. Since the transmission power is adjustable, communication is carried out among nodes of the network with an adequately minimum power consumption and a proper communication quality.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for implementing a speed sensitive mobile network device (e.g., Mobile Router). The speed of the mobile network device is detected. The values of one or more operating characteristics of one or more interfaces of the mobile network device are ascertained, where the values correspond to the speed of the mobile network device. One of the interfaces having a desired set of values of the operating characteristics at the speed of the mobile network device is then selected.

  • Patent number: 7412238
Abstract: System and method for efficiently detecting packet format from a control channel. A preferred embodiment comprises the use of a slot counter (for example, slot counter 1310) to count the number of slots received (perhaps at a buffer, such as buffer 1305) since the last successfully demodulated packet. Using the slot counter, the number of demodulation attempts can be reduced. For example, if slot counter is one, then a single slot format decode is attempted. If slot counter is two, then a single and dual slot format decode is attempted. Additionally, channel quality can be used to determine likely channel formats. Furthermore, when multiple control channels are used, decoding information regarding one control channel can assist in determining the slot format of another.

  • Patent number: 7385957
Abstract: Methods and apparatus facilitating mobile node paging in a system where a mobile node is able to hand off application processing to an application proxy are described. Paging determinations are made based on application processing results corresponding to processing the content of multiple packet payloads. In some cases paging determinations are made based on processing the payload of a single packet in conjunction with information received from a mobile node, e.g., intermediate application processing results, mobile node state information, etc. To facilitate application processing handoffs in a manner that is transparent to a peer node involved in an ongoing communications session with the mobile node, security information may be passed between the mobile node and the application proxy node in a manner that is transparent to the peer node allowing an end to end security association to be maintained throughout the communications session with the peer node.
