Patent number: 6807220Abstract: A heating assembly for use in an electric furnace includes a helical heating element encircled by thermal insulation, and rows of spacers for keeping turns of the heating element spaced apart by predetermined distances. Each spacer includes circumferential side portions facing generally in a circumferential direction of the heating element and converging toward a center region of the spacer to form a radial undercut against which the insulation abuts. The spacers of each row have through holes extending parallel to a longitudinal axis of the heating element. A guide rod extends through the through holes of each row of spacers.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2003Date of Patent: October 19, 2004Assignee: MRL IndustriesInventor: Kevin B. Peck

Patent number: 6160836Abstract: An electro-smokeless extraction/recovery system for converting shredded scrap tires to carbon black and steel and fluid discharge of oil, gas and solvent chemicals. A reaction vessel is formed with a side wall and a bottom plate. The bottom plate is provided with a plurality of heat apertures and a plurality of drain apertures. The vessel also has an open top for receipt of waste and shredded scrap tires. The lid is adapted to be removably placed over the top. A plurality of electrical heating elements are positioned through the bottom of the reaction vessel to heat the waste and shredded scrap tires within the vessel. A plurality of hollow drain members each have a side wall and a top with an open bottom positioned in sealing relationship with drain apertures. Vertically extending openings on at least a portion of a side wall extend upwardly from the bottom plate to a location adjacent to the top to effect the flow of fluid discharge from the reaction vessel.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 1999Date of Patent: December 12, 2000Inventor: Jack L. Hansen

Patent number: 6061383Abstract: The present invention reduces generation of harmful substances through processing at lower cost for facilities and processing. According to the present invention, polychlorinated biphenyl and mixture of alumina oxide and silicon dioxide are mixed and emulsified in an ultrasonic emulsifier 2. The emulsified mixture is then charged into an electric resistance type melting furnace 5 and is melted at temperature of 1500.degree. C.-2000.degree. C. and is turned to glassy state.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 1999Date of Patent: May 9, 2000Assignee: Setsu AnzaiInventor: Hideo Katayama

Patent number: 6061384Abstract: An improved process and apparatus for the production and reactivation of activated carbon comprising the passing of a substrate through one or more zones defined by electrodes. Electrical energy passing through the bed of substrate creates heat that supports the devolatilization and activation of the substrate. Steam, carbon dioxide, or an alternative gas can be used to support the activation process, while other zones can be filled with inert gas such as nitrogen to promote pyrolysis reactions. Preferably, these gases pass through the bed in a co-current downward flow with the carbon to prevent fluidization and arcing within the bed.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1999Date of Patent: May 9, 2000Assignee: Koslow Technologies CorporationInventor: Evan E. Koslow

Patent number: 5883919Abstract: A furnace system for preventing gas leakage is disclosed. The furnace system includes a bottom board for holding a furnace tube. A gas injection device is connected to the furnace tube at a first port for injecting reaction gas into the furnace tube. An exhaust subsystem is connected to the furnace tube at a second port. The exhaust subsystem has a first node, a second node, a third node and a fourth node. A vacuum seal is connected to the furnace tube at a third port for preventing the exhaust gas from leaking. The vacuum seal is connected to the exhaust subsystem at the first node and the second node. Finally, an N.sub.2 sealing tube is connected to furnace tube and surrounding the seam between the furnace tube and the bottom board.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1997Date of Patent: March 16, 1999Assignee: Vanguard International Semiconductor CorporationInventors: Cheng-Chang Hung, Lien-Fang Lin

Patent number: 4425092Abstract: The invention relates to a method for burning fine-grain material, particularly for the manufacture of cement clinker from cement raw meal. The material is thermally treated in a multi-stage burning process with a pre-heating stage, a calcining stage with a high-degree of calcination, a sintering stage in a very short rotary kiln and a cooling stage. Fuel is introduced both into the sintering stage in the short rotary kiln as well as into the calcinating stage. Hot exhaust air from the cooling stage is supplied both to the sintering stage as well as to the calcining stage as furnace air. The invention also relates to an apparatus for the manufacture of mineral products of the burning process such as cement clinker.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 1981Date of Patent: January 10, 1984Assignee: Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz AGInventors: Kunibert Brachthauser, Horst Herchenbach

Patent number: 4406618Abstract: A method of operating a continuous heat treatment furnace for metal strip coils includes steps of enclosing them in muffles in the furnace supplied with an atmosphere gas containing a combustible gas such as hydrogen and feeding the muffles into and through the furnace having therein heating, soaking and cooling zones. According to the disclosed method, at least part of the heating and soaking zones is heated by direct firing heating with a fluid fuel with excess air and combustible gas leaked from the muffles into the furnace is burnt in the furnace with the aid of the excess air. Combustible gas leaked from the muffles into the cooling zone is diluted with air forced into the cooling zone to make the combustible gas incombustible and thereafter to exhaust it out of the furnace, thereby eliminating ignition means for the combustible gas in the furnace and particular precaution for preventing an ignition failure.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1981Date of Patent: September 27, 1983Assignee: Kawasaki Steel CorporationInventor: Kimio Maeyama
