  • Patent number: 9200380
Abstract: The present invention provides a silicon single crystal manufacturing method for manufacturing a single crystal based on a horizontal magnetic field applied CZ method for pulling the single crystal while applying a horizontal magnetic field to a silicon raw material melt accommodated in a quartz crucible by a magnetic field application device, comprising: measuring a center position of the magnetic field generated by the magnetic field application device; and deviating the measured center position of the magnetic field from a pulling member serving as a rotation axis of the single crystal in a horizontal direction within the range of 2 to 14 mm before manufacture of the single crystal and/or during manufacture of the single crystal.

Abstract: An energy-efficient device for refining a glass melt to produce a glass and/or a glass ceramic is provided. The device includes a refining crucible defined at least by lateral walls with a metallic lining as a melt contact surface, so that a melt refining volume is defined by a base surface, a top surface and a circumferential surface; at least one heating device that conductively heats the lining by an electric current in the lining, so that the melt is heated through the lining, the heating device and the lining are connected to one another by a feeding device. The feeding device establishes contact with the lining so that an electric current runs from the top surface to the base surface or from the base surface to the top surface, at least in sections of the lining.

  • Publication number: 20100163550
Abstract: Apparatus and method are provided for heating and melting of materials by electric induction heating of susceptor components in a crucible of the furnace. The susceptor components comprise at least an array of susceptor rods arranged around the inner perimeter of the crucible. A susceptor base may also be provided in the crucible with connection to one end of the susceptor rods. One or more susceptor tubes may also be used within the interior volume of the crucible. Alternating current flow through one or more induction coils surrounding the exterior of the crucible generate magnetic flux fields that couple with the susceptor components to inductively heat the susceptor components. Heat from the susceptor components transfers to the material in the crucible to heat and melt the material.

  • Patent number: 5315085
Abstract: An oven (1800) for use in conjunction with a dynamic thermal-mechanical testing system that exhibits both self-resistive and self-inductive heating whenever a sufficiently large alternating (AC) electrical current is passed through the oven. In one embodiment, the oven is fabricated from a material which undergoes self-resistive heating to radiantly heat an internal volume of the oven. The oven also includes appropriately shaped heating sections (1830), which undergoes self-resistive and self-inductive heating to compensate for heat losses into a support for the oven.

  • Patent number: 4867848
Abstract: An apparatus and process for producing coke in a vertical furnace having an upper part for preheating and devolitalizing raw ovoids of coal, an electrically heated median part for carbonizing and coking the ovoids and a lower part for partially cooling the coked ovoids by counter current flow of recycled product gases recovered from the upper part of the furnace. A cooling chamber is connected to the lower part of the furnace for further cooling the coked ovoids by countercurrent flow of a portion of the recycled product gases which are withdrawn after flowing through the partially cooled coked ovoids and introduced into the upper part of the furnace to prevent condensation of condensibles contained in the product gases. The median part of the furnace may be electrically heated by electrodes, induction coils or a combination of electrodes and induction coils.

  • Patent number: 4850572
Abstract: A process intended to prevent the formation of metal deposits on the walls (1) of metallurgical containers in contact with the molten metal bath (12). An improved container for carrying out this process is also described. Formation of deposit can be prevented by applying an electric voltage between the molten bath (12) and the wall (1).

  • Patent number: 4606037
Abstract: The heater member of a furnace for heating the crucible used for fusing raw materials for a semiconductor single crystal is provided with reinforcing members made of a material such as alumina or pyrolytic boron nitride which excels in electric insulating property, resistance to heat, and strength. When a magnetic field with an alternating current or pulsating current of electricity is applied to the site of single crystal growth for the purpose of stabilizing the growth of the single crystal, the furnace tends to sustain breakage. These reinforcing members thus used on the heater member impart improved durability to the furnace and enable the apparatus as a whole to enjoy a long service life.
