  • Patent number: 8223898
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses, and combinations and sub-combinations thereof, for down-converting an electromagnetic (EM) signal are described herein. Briefly stated, in embodiments the invention operates by receiving an EM signal and recursively operating on approximate half cycles (½, 1½, 2½, etc.) of the carrier signal. The recursive operations can be performed at a sub-harmonic rate of the carrier signal. The invention accumulates the results of the recursive operations and uses the accumulated results to form a down-converted signal. In an embodiment, the EM signal is down-converted to an intermediate frequency (IF) signal. In another embodiment, the EM signal is down-converted to a baseband information signal. In another embodiment, the EM signal is a frequency modulated (FM) signal, which is down-converted to a non-FM signal, such as a phase modulated (PM) signal or an amplitude modulated (AM) signal.

Abstract: A method and device is provided for the detection of data symbols contained in a received radio signal, whereby each data symbol is allocated transmit-side a symbol value-specific PN sequence of successive PN chips in the chip clock and the PN sequences allocated to the data symbols are offset QPSK modulated. The method of the invention for incoherent detection provides for converting the received radio signal into a complex baseband signal sampled in the chip clock, generating a demodulated signal by differential demodulation of the complex baseband signal sampled in the chip clock, providing the derived sequences, calculating correlation results by correlating the demodulated signal with the derived sequences, and deriving, i.e., detecting, the values of the data symbols by evaluating the correlation results.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a device for detecting active spreading codes for a signal in a communication system and estimating power of the active spreading codes. Further, the present invention ensures efficient interference cancellation. Multiple correlations are performed at a single level of a spreading code tree, the produced output samples are then observed at this level during a defined period, and a decision for the activity and power is met for all existing codes via extracting and processing information from these samples. At the correlation step, unitary fast Walsh Hadamard transformation is performed at practically the highest spreading factor in the system.

A terminal uses TDM pilot 1 to detect for the presence of a signal and uses TDM pilot 2 to identify base stations and obtain accurate timing. For signal detection, the terminal performs delayed correlation on received samples and determines whether a signal is present. If a signal is detected, the terminal performs direct correlation on the received samples with PN1 sequences for K1 different time offsets and identifies K2 strongest TDM pilot 1 instances. For time synchronization, the terminal performs direct correlation on the received samples with PN2 sequences to detect for TDM pilot 2.

  • Patent number: 8064497
Abstract: Multipath components of transmitted data symbols are received with individual delays and processed by a RAKE having a number of fingers. A delay profile indicating magnitudes for a first number of delay values is provided. Estimated magnitudes for a second number of delay values located between the first number of delay values are calculated by interpolation, and a combined delay profile is provided by combining the magnitudes for the first and second number of delay values. Delay values for peaks in the combined delay profile are determined, and a number of peak delay values (P1, P2, P) comprising the largest peak are selected from the combined delay profile. At least some of the selected peak delay values are provided to the RAKE and assigned to the fingers. This allows a reduction of current consumption and dye area, while still providing delay values with sufficient resolution for the RAKE.

Abstract: A power-receiving-side control circuit of a power reception device performs intermittent load modulation by causing an NMOS transistor to be turned ON/OFF during normal power transmission. A power-transmission-side control circuit included in a power transmission control device of a power transmission device monitors, an intermittent change in the load of the power reception device during normal power transmission. The power-transmission-side control circuit determines that a foreign object has been inserted between a primary coil and a secondary coil and stops power transmission when an intermittent change in load cannot be detected. The amount of power supplied to the load may be compulsorily reduced when the load state of the load is heavy.

  • Patent number: 8064551
Abstract: Described are computer-based methods and apparatuses, including computer program products, for determining burst transmission signals. A receiver receives radio frequency data from a data source through a network. The receiver converts the radio frequency data to digital data. The receiver converts the digital data to baseband data. The receiver generates a correlation magnitude from the baseband data based on one or more correlation templates. The receiver determines one or more statistics based on the correlation magnitude and stored statistics. The receiver determines the presence of a burst transmission signal based on a comparison of a threshold value computed as a function of the statistics and the correlation magnitude. If the correlation magnitude exceeds the computed threshold, the receiver demodulates the burst transmission signal to packet data and transmits the packet data to a server.

  • Patent number: 8059699
Abstract: Disclosed is a low power consumption GNSS receiver by adaptively adjusting clock frequency. A correlator performs correlations to signals received from the channels with a correlator clock frequency. A DSP controls the correlator clock frequency according to a correlator load to performing correlations. The DSP calculates and adjusts code phases and Doppler frequencies for the signals in turn with a DSP clock frequency. The DSP controls the DSP clock frequency according to an accumulated throughput of calculation and adjustment or a predetermined threshold number of channels. The DSP controls the RF power according to the correlator load. A microprocessor processes a measurement result of the calculation and the adjustment for obtaining position information with a microprocessor clock frequency. The microprocessor controls the microprocessor clock frequency according to an accumulated progress of processing the measurement result. Accordingly, reducing power consumption for the GNSS receiver can be realized.

Abstract: A method of multi-path searching in a cellular network is provided. The method carries out a correlation process over a predetermined integration period in relation to a first pilot signal received in connection with a first cell of the cellular network to generate first multiple correlation measurements corresponding to a plurality of time delays in the signal, analyzing the first multiple correlation measurements in relation to the time delays to identify multi-path positions in the signal. Information of the multi-path positions over a first predetermined integration period is stored as a first set of candidate multi-path positions and compared with a second set of candidate multi-path positions derived from second multiple correlation measurements corresponding to the time delays over a second predetermined integration period in relation to the first pilot signal, so as to confirm or reject candidate multi-path positions and define modified candidate multi-path positions.

  • Patent number: 8041336
Abstract: A technique for determining the time of arrival of a signal involves correlating a received signal with a correlation function to produce a stream of correlation samples including a peak sample, pre-peak samples, and post-peak samples. A curve matching table includes sets of values, where each set of values represents discrete points of a correlation function having a peak at a respective different time shift relative to the timing of the peak sample. The sets of values include first sets of values that are matched with a first set of samples having no post-peak samples from the correlation samples, and second sets of values that are matched with a second set of samples having at least one post-peak sample. The time of arrival of the signal is determined from the timing of the peak of the correlation function represented by the set of values that produces the best match.
