Having Multi-receiver Or Interference Cancellation Patents (Class 375/144)
  • Patent number: 6895038
Abstract: A low-cost communication system utilizing a code division multiple access, which controls scale-up of an apparatus due to the provision of an interference suppressing function in a base transceiver station, prevents the reduction of channel utilization efficiency, and enables a high-quality communication. Conventionally, a signal obtained through an interference cancellation stage process has been processed at subsequent cascade-connected stages. The interference cancellation stage process has been carried out by cascade-connecting several circuits performing the same process in a multi-stage interference-canceling device. However, in the present invention, by performing a demodulation process for generating replica signals, feeding back the replica signals to a correlation circuit for another demodulation process, and repeating the same signal process, the interference cancellation stage process is carried out. Such a configuration enables reduction of hardware.

Abstract: An apparatus and method are described in which a corrected signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) is determined in a cellular telephone receiver. • Patent number: 6882678
Abstract: A receiver for the third-generation (“3G”) CDMA wireless system is disclosed. The receiver is adapted to mitigate the correlated interference by adaptive antenna process which will maximize the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio. After the mitigation of correlated interference from first step space process, the second step is to counter fading with MRC which is optimum after the mitigation of correlated interference. After these first two steps of interference mitigation by adaptive antennas and fading compensation through MRC, the decision signal for the first stage of MPIC will have the strongest desired part and least interference compared to any MPIC available. As can be appreciated, the first stage BER of the present receiver will be the lowest. Then, this low BER will result in a more accurate MAI regeneration, which will further cause a lower BER for the next stage and any subsequent stages.

Abstract: An object of the present invention is to estimate and compensate more accurately transmission channels in CDMA signal decoding. Memory means stores received despread data. Slot position detection means detects positions of pilot symbols. The transmission channel estimation values are delayed by delay means, multiplied by their weight and added by multi-pilot block transmission channel estimation means. Here, the weighs are controlled adaptively by weight determination means in accordance with the state of the channel. Abstract: A single-user detection method operates to reduce the effects of interference in multi-user detection systems. Based upon a number of received user codes, a receiver defines a frame of symbols containing at least one window. A symbol amplitude of a single-user in a multi-user system is approximated over the window of the frame and a perturbative correction value is calculated based upon a correlation or decorrelation matrix, which is determined by the delay spread of the signals. An estimation of the symbol amplitude of the single-user signal is calculated over one or a number of windows of the frame. The single-user signal is detected when the symbol amplitudes of the entire signal within the frame has been calculated.

Abstract: A multipath mitigation method consists of locating a multipath-invariant (MPI) point of an ideal autocorrelation function and measuring the distance between the MPI point and DLL. The same MPI point is located in a received correlation function, and the distance between the point and the DLL, now affected by multipath, is measured. The difference between the ideal distance and the actual distance is the code tracking error resulting from multipath. The error is subtracted from the computed pseudorange or used to control the DLL. The method can be used to reduce the effects of all types of tracking error sources, such as signal transmission failure or code noise.

Abstract: The present invention relates to systems and methods that facilitate compensating for intersymbol interference (e.g. due to non-nyquist filtering) in Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) systems (e.g., IS 95 and IS2000 systems). The subject invention employs equalization filters (e.g., T-spaced equalizers) at fingers of a RAKE receiver. By effecting such equalization filtering at a downstream point in a receiving system, e.g., at the fingers of the RAKE receiver, the filters can be run so as to operate at lower rates as compared to conventional systems where filtering is effected upstream where time is not necessarily known thus requiring equalization filters to operate at significantly faster rates (e.g., 2× or 4× expected chip rate). Accordingly, as compared to conventional systems where the matching filters often are of substantial complexity (e.g., >80 taps) the present invention provides for less complex equalization filters thereby reducing overall system complexity and cost.

Abstract: A system and method for transmitting a plurality of spread-spectrum signals over a communications channel having fading. The plurality of spread-spectrum signals are radiated by a plurality of antennas, with each antenna preferably spaced by one-quarter wavelength. A plurality of receiver antennas receive the plurality of spread-spectrum signals and a plurality of fading spread-spectrum signals. Each receiver antenna is coupled to a plurality of matched filters having a respective plurality of impulse responses matched to the chip-sequence signals of the plurality of spread-spectrum signals. A RAKE and space-diversity combiner combines, for each respective chip-sequence signal, a respective plurality of detected spread-spectrum signals and a respective multiplicity of detected-multipath-spread-spectrum signals, to generate a plurality of combined signals. The symbol amplitudes can be measured and erasure decoding employed to improve performance.

  • Patent number: 6754511
Abstract: A signal separator overcomes co-linear interference encountered in a wireless communication system base station by exploiting generally flat fading multipath characteristics of incoming signals. For this purpose, the invention employs diversity gained through the use of antenna array elements having different polarizations. An RF downconverter provides a signal separator with baseband, discrete-time digital samples of signal waveforms, received at one or more pairs of diverse polarization antenna elements. The signal separator weights and combines the baseband signals from the vertically and horizontally polarized received signals produced by the RF downconverter to estimate which signals emanate from which users. The signal separator uses polarization coefficients supplied by a coefficient calculator. To generate the polarization coefficients, the coefficient calculator is coupled to receive a set of channel fading coefficients from a channel estimator.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for preventing dropped calls in a wireless communication device. In one embodiment, the present invention is comprised of a method including the step of determining a characteristic of a first finger. Next, the present embodiment compares a characteristic of the first finger to a characteristic threshold. In this embodiment, provided the characteristic of the first finger does not meet the characteristic threshold, the present invention then determines if a second finger is present. Provided it is determined that a second finger is not present, the present invention prevents the first finger from being deassigned such that the first finger is not deassigned when only the first finger is present. In so doing, the present embodiment ensures that first finger is utilized (i.e. not dropped) even when the first finger does not meet a given characteristic threshold.

Abstract: A method is provided for mitigating the multipath interference experienced by a present CCK symbol. This method first obtains a set of initial candidates for the present CCK symbol and a set of initial candidates for the next CCK symbol based on the ICI-corrected correlation outputs for the present and next CCK symbols, respectively. The method then obtains, for each of the candidates for the present CCK symbol, first ISI-mitigated correlation outputs where both the ICI due to the present CCK symbol and the ISI due to the next CCK symbol have been corrected. Thereafter, for each of the candidates for the present CCK symbol, and based on the first ISI-mitigated correlation outputs, the method obtains second ISI-mitigated correlation outputs where the ISI due to the previous CCK symbol has also been corrected. The present CCK symbol is then decoded based on the second ISI-mitigated correlation outputs.
