Correlation-type Receiver Patents (Class 375/150)
  • Publication number: 20120114019
Abstract: Techniques for extending transmission range in a WLAN are described. In an aspect, a receiving station determines the frequency error between a transmitting station and the receiving station based on one or more initial packet transmissions and corrects this frequency error for subsequent packet transmissions received from the transmitting station. The residual frequency error is small after correcting for the frequency error and allows the receiving station to perform coherent accumulation/integration over a longer time interval to detect for a packet transmission. The longer coherent accumulation interval improves detection performance, especially at low SNRs for extended transmission range. The techniques may be used whenever the receiving station knows the identity of the transmitting station, e.g., if the subsequent packet transmissions are scheduled. Other aspects, features, and embodiments are also claimed and described.

Abstract: The invention presented in this disclosure gives methods to estimate and compensate for the multi-path in a typical navigational or spread spectrum receiver. The multi-path delay is estimated based on the outputs of different correlators of the receiver. Unlike three correlators normally used, the present disclosure uses five correlators, namely, Early2 (E2), Early1 (E1), Prompt (P), Late1 (L1) and Late2 (L2). The possible multi-path scenarios are classified into six different cases depending upon the reflected signal delay and the errors are computed. Further, the algorithm in the present disclosure can be extended to any correlators spacing.

By using the various codes, the correlator is adaptable and flexible for different correlation requirements.

  • Patent number: 8111736
Abstract: A method and apparatus for receiving a signal from transmitters such as GPS satellites, for fixing the location of the receiver. Each of the transmitted signals includes a unique periodically-repeating sequence. A received signal is stored by the receiver for at least two repetitions of the periodically-repeating sequence. FFT operations are performed, and the resulting data frequency samples are pruned responsive to a hypothesized residual frequency, a procedure which significantly reduces the total number of subsequent calculations and therefore significantly reduces processing time. A correlation series is determined from the pruned samples and reference frequency samples corresponding to a hypothesized transmitter. If a match is found in the examination of this series, a code phase offset is determined; if not the process is repeated with another hypothesized residual frequency. Multiple correlation series similarly obtained may also be incoherently combined prior to this examination.

Abstract: There is provided a method for generating an error signal for an automatic frequency control (AFC) loop in a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) system. Sign information relating to phase differences in received pilot signals is accumulated. In one embodiment, the accumulated sign information is compared against predetermined threshold levels. The error signal is generated when at least one of the predetermined threshold levels is satisfied. In a second embodiment, the accumulated sign information is decimated. An output of the decimating step is utilized as the error signal for the AFC loop.
