  • Patent number: 11140525
Abstract: Aspects of this disclosure are directed to a method of routing text messages to subscribers of toll-free numbers using the toll-free exchange. Typically, an originating texter will draft a text message, using, for example, an SMS component of a cellular phone to a toll-free subscriber. In an aspect of the present disclosure, the text message is sent to the originating texter's service provider, which then routes the text message to the toll-free exchange. The toll-free exchange looks up the RESPORG ID associated with the ten-digit toll-free number, and the RESPORG ID is used for text message routing.

  • Patent number: 10440175
Abstract: Dynamic controlled-environment facility resident communication allocation based on call volume may be implemented using a controlled-environment facility secure communication platform. The platform monitors controlled-environment facility resident call volume, recognizes an average call volume and detects an increase in call volume above the average call volume or a decrease in call volume below the average call volume. The platform automatically initiates a controlled-environment facility resident calling restriction in response to a detected increase in call volume or automatically initiates an increase in controlled-environment facility resident calling allocation in response to a detected decrease in call volume below the average call volume.

  • Patent number: 9247057
Abstract: An approach is provided for network quality assurance. The approach includes identifying a node in a calling path associated with a call between a calling party and a called party. The approach also includes querying call record information associated with the call from the node. The approach further includes analyzing the call record information to determine a successful state or a failure state of the call. The approach further includes recursively querying and analyzing other call record information associated with the call from one or more subsequent nodes based on the successful state, the failure state, or a combination thereof determined for the node, the one or more subsequent nodes, or a combination thereof.

  • Patent number: 9237188
Abstract: A set of techniques is described for enabling a virtual machine based transcoding system. The system enables any transcoding provider to make their transcoding service available to other users over a network. The system can automate the deployment, execution and delivery of the transcoding service on behalf of the transcoding provider and enable other users to use the transcoding services to transcode content. The system receives a virtual machine image, transfers the image to a location where the media content is stored and creates a virtual private network of resources that will perform the transcoding of the media content. The virtual private network may be firewalled or otherwise restricted from opening connections with external clients when transcoding the content in order to prevent malicious use of the media content.

  • Patent number: 8417182
Abstract: Disclosed is an excessive-signal prevention apparatus which includes a connection state judgment section and a zero-level signal insertion section. The connection state judgment section detects whether connection between a first device and a second device is normal or abnormal on the basis of a pattern of signals that are other than a transmission signal transmitted from the first device to the second device at normal time and are required for transmission of the transmission signal. The zero-level signal insertion section outputs the transmission signal output from the first device to a destination during a period of time when the connection state judgment section judges that the connection between the first and the second device is normal, and which outputs a zero-level signal to the destination during a period of time when the connection state judgment section judges that the connection between the first and the second device is abnormal.

  • Patent number: 8036352
Abstract: A method and system include obtaining at a first time a first image of a database having number portability records for each telephone number which has been ported between service providers. The first image is indicative of the LNP records in the database at the first time. At a second time a second image of the database is obtained. The second image is indicative of the records in the database at the second time. The first and second images are compared to determine migration of ported telephone numbers.

  • Patent number: 7620163
Abstract: A method and system for forecasting telephony traffic trends on a network of a given service provider includes storing number portability records in a database. Each record contains information regarding a corresponding telephone number having been ported between service providers. First and second images of the database are obtained at first and second times. The first and second images are indicative of the records stored in the database at the first and second times. The images are compared to determine migration of the ported telephone numbers between the service providers. Movement of telephone traffic on the network of the given service provider is forecasted as a function of the determined migration of the ported telephone numbers between the service providers.

  • Patent number: 6975711
Abstract: A method and system for forecasting telephony traffic trends on a network of a given service provider includes storing local number portability (LNP) record portions in a LNP database. Each LNP record portion contains information regarding a corresponding telephone number having been ported between service providers. First and second images of the LNP database are obtained at first and second times. The first and second images are indicative of all the LNP record portions stored in the LNP database at the first and second times. The images are compared to determine migration of the ported telephone numbers between the service providers over a time period between the first and second times. Movement of telephone traffic on the network of the given service provider after the second time is then forecasted as a function of the determined migration of the ported telephone numbers between the service providers.

  • Patent number: 6633640
Abstract: A multi-site call processing system includes multiple distributed call center sites, and utilizes a load balancing process to distribute calls among the sites for handling by agents. The system generates a multi-site performance score characterizing the performance of the load balancing process. Adjustments may be made in the load balancing process, such as selection of one type of load balancing over another for use at a particular time, based at least in part on the multi-site performance score. The multi-site performance score may be determined using single-site performance measures such as Average Speed of Answer (ASA) and agent occupancy generated across multiple time intervals. The multi-site performance score as generated for a given interval may be, e.g., a ratio of the maximum and minimum values of a single-site performance measure for that interval.

  • Patent number: 6526135
Abstract: The ACBCD distributes calls for business service in a given business category to competing businesses on the basis of proportionate shares allocated to the individual competitors, all without ongoing manual intervention in the allocation process. The distribution process takes one of several forms, all of which guarantee any competitor in a given business category a minimum competitive share of the incoming calls for business service. The invention provides a means for each competitor in a given business category to raise or lower its own expected relative share of the incoming calls, subject to constraints imposable by the supplier of the invention's call-distribution service. This invention is useful in many communication networks, including and not limited to the traditional PSTN 10, in the Internet and World Wide Web, or in any mixture of these technologies.

  • Patent number: 6466648
Abstract: A switch includes a repetitive call detection unit which detects a repetitive call which occupies channels in an identical channel group. A release unit releases the channels occupied by the repetitive call when the repetitive call is detected. A restriction unit stores information concerning the repetitive call and imposes a restriction on a connection of a call having information identical to the information concerning the repetitive call. A test unit determines whether a cause of the repetitive call has been removed. A restriction release unit releases the above restriction in accordance with a result of determination by the test unit.

  • Patent number: 6301342
Abstract: A method relating to telecommunications in which the telephone of a first subscriber is connected to the telephone of a second subscriber via a standard telephone network and the call is billed to a third subscriber. The first subscriber first dials a subscriber number, preferably preceded by a prefix, which leads to the third subscriber and then dials a subscriber number that leads to the second subscriber. The telephone network connects the call to a telephone-network-connected computer unit that forwards the call to the second subscriber to connect the first subscriber with the second subscriber. The call between the first subscriber and the second subscriber is billed to the third subscriber, and advertisements are transmitted on the call connected between the first and second subscribers.
