Sequential Ringing Patents (Class 379/211.03)
  • Publication number: 20030002645
Abstract: A Service Control Point (SCP) has a call list associated with the main telephone number of a called party. When a calling party attempts to contact the called party by calling the main number, but cannot reach the main number, a Service Switching Point (SSP) fires a trigger. One trigger is a T_No_Answer trigger, which is fired in response to a call to the main number that is not answered within a predefined number of rings. Another trigger is a T_Busy trigger that is fired in response to a call to the main number that is made when the main number is busy. Each trigger causes the SCP to access the call list and to cause the SSP to ring an alternative telephone number associated with the main telephone number. If this attempt to reach the called party also fails, then the SSP again fires the trigger and an attempt is made to connect the calling party to the next number on the call list.

  • Patent number: 6453023
Abstract: A system, method, and apparatus for retrieving a telephone call that has been diverted from an originally called user telephone to an alternative destination, such as a voice mail system or another user telephone. An incoming call directed toward the called user telephone is received at an exchange. The exchange routes the call to the called user telephone and monitors the call to determine if the called user telephone answers the call within a predetermined period. If not, the exchange reroutes the call to the alternative destination. Subsequently, a request is received to retrieve the rerouted call for connection with the originally called user telephone. In response, the exchange connects the call with the originally called user telephone.

  • Patent number: 6404875
Abstract: The present invention discloses a telecommunications system initiating telephone connections between, for example a consumer and a service provider based on the criteria provided by the consumer and the services available from the service provider. The system is suitable for consumers requiring direct communication with a staff member of a service provider capable of meeting the consumer's service requirements. The system compiles a prioritized list of service providers matching the consumer's criteria. Starting with the first service provider on the list the system rings the service provider and determines whether or not a staff member answers the call. If the line is busy or the call is not answered by a staff member, the system moves on to the next service provider on the list until a service provider having a staff member is located. Once such a service provider is located, the system rings the consumer and connects the two parties.

  • Patent number: 6400816
Abstract: A communications system is designed to receive programmed instructions from an end-user device, invoke within the system the necessary processes needed to execute these instructions, and to marshal and allocate the needed resources to deliver a communications service requested by the sender of the programmed instructions

  • Patent number: 6366652
Abstract: A technique for preventing voice announcements in a group call is provided. A VM tone begins a voice announcement of a voice mail system. Parties that cause the VM tone to be transmitted are not added to the group call. This approach guarantees that no voice announcements will be added to the group call. With this approach, all subscribers are allowed to use voice mail systems, but the subscribers currently forwarding messages to voice mail will not be connected to group calls.

  • Patent number: 6366660
Abstract: A system, apparatus and method are disclosed which provide variable alerting patterns for multiple leg telecommunication sessions, such as for providing concurrent alerting, sequential alerting, pyramid alerting or cascade alerting, of outgoing call legs for a flexible alerting service. The preferred system includes a home location register coupled to a mobile switching center. The home location register has, stored in a memory, a plurality of secondary directory numbers associated with a primary directory number, such as an ANSI compatible pilot directory number, and for each secondary directory number of the plurality of secondary directory numbers, further stored in the memory a corresponding timing delay parameter, a corresponding no answer time parameter, and a corresponding no answer termination trigger. Variation of the various corresponding timing delay parameters and no answer time parameters produces the variable alerting patterns.
