  • Patent number: 7587031
Abstract: The present invention provides a technique for providing a forced hold service such as is used for an emergency services call, which is supported at least in part over a packet network. The forced hold service acts to effectively hold a connection for the call with a called party, even when the caller takes an action that would normally end a call, such as going on hook, pressing end, or the like. When the caller takes an action that would normally end the call, the forced hold service allows the caller to automatically reconnect to the emergency services provider over the held connection upon going offhook, pressing send, or the like. Alternatively, the emergency services provider can effectively re-engage the call wherein the caller is reconnected over the held connection upon going offhook, pressing send, or the like.

Abstract: A system and method for routing voice communication to an end user across multiple telephony networks are disclosed. In one embodiment of the present invention, when a caller dials a voice identity number of a user, a policy processor checks a database for information on that number. Depending on whether or not that voice identity number has an associated mapping policy attached to it, the policy processor will determine how and where the call should be routed. If there is no mapping policy associated with the number dialed, the call will be routed to that same number dialed, however, if a mapping policy does exist, the policy processor will determine to which target number the call should be routed based on a mapping of possible numbers and rules based on date and time.

  • Patent number: 7379545
Abstract: A system for automatic call-transfer using a softphone, which applies the functions of a hardware telephone on a personal computer, is achieved by integrating a softphone system, a computer-telephony integration system, and a private branch exchange. This system is performed mainly in a manner of automatically fast swapping the first line and the second line of a call, when a call is transferred to an interactive voice system, for example, and this system can successfully compensate the fault that a holding noise emerges from the current telephone exchange device. When a call center operator talks with the customer, if the line needs to be transferred to a interactive voice response system but the interactive voice response system cannot pick up the line timely, this system can be used to transfer a call to avoid the customer listening the holding voice or rings of the private branch exchange.

  • Patent number: 7366291
Abstract: A service node is used in the implementation of a call-transfer service in which a service call is transferred to a second agent from a first agent. A code receiver receives from a service control point, via a data link, at least one subscriber-defined call-transfer feature code that can be invoked by the first agent. A call-transferor transfers the service call to the second agent from the first agent in response to the service node receiving a signal from the first agent after the first agent invokes an elective call-transfer function using at least one subscriber-defined call-transfer feature code.

Abstract: A first user at a first computing device communicates with a second user at a second computing device. Both devices communicate in real-time via a network service such as in instant messaging service. The network service upon request of the one of the users can transfer the real-time communication session between the first user and the second user to a third user. The third user adopts the identity of the transferring user for the course of the communication session. This would be useful to transfer a communication session regarding an illegal subject to a law enforcement agency.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for a media terminal adapter (MTA) that contains a routing table for routing incoming telephone calls based on caller identification information. The MTA is coupled to a router/hub, where all digital telephones are then connected to the router/hub. Any analog telephones are connected to the MTA. The routing table defines incoming calls using their caller identification information and associates each defined call with a corresponding telephone(s). In this manner, an incoming call that is intended for one predominant telephone user is routed to the desired telephone using the telephone's IP address or a physical connection interface.

  • Patent number: 7295663
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a network communication system that provides textual communication and call transferring between nodes. The system further allows simultaneous notification of multiple nodes of an incoming call. The system includes a local computer that may also serve as a node in the system. A call may originate with the local computer or be generated by a remote device that is in communication with the local computer. The local computer generates a call indicator that is transmitted to one or more nodes simultaneously. Selection of the nodes may be based on user intervention or by predefined groupings. Each node receiving a call indicator is configured to generate a ring message in response. The ring message is displayed on an output device to alert a node user to the incoming call. In response to the ring message, a node user may choose to accept or decline the call. A node user's responses to the call indicator are transmitted to the local computer.
