Abstract: An improved handheld electronic device and an associated method provide an improved call log that presents information relating to logged phone calls in a collapsed manner, meaning that for each phone number having a call stored in the memory of the device, only the most recent in time call is listed on the call log. An improved handheld electronic device and an associated method also provide a call history for any phone call from the improved call log that is selected by the user. The call history includes a listing of all of the calls stored by the device that are associated with the selected call log call.

Abstract: A system comprising: one or more processors; and program instructions for providing a user interface. Execution of the program instructions by the one or more processors causes the one or more processors to display a user interface comprising: an entry mechanism for entering an input comprising at least one character, symbol, numeral or punctuation mark; a typing pane configured to display the input entered via the entry mechanism; wherein, in response to selection of a prediction based on the input entered via the entry mechanism, the typing pane is configured to replace the input entered via the entry mechanism by the prediction; and an undo button, wherein in response to user selection of the undo button, the typing pane is configured to replace the selected prediction by the input entered via the entry mechanism.

For carrying out the present invention, in the information processing apparatus according to the present invention, setting parameters selected from a plurality of setting parameters are set to the external storage device and the CPU unit, and the setting parameters set in the external storage device and the CPU unit are compared.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and software can be used to disambiguate an input into a handheld electronic device. In some aspect, one computer-implemented method includes detecting an ambiguous input including one or more selections of one or more input keys; generating one or more prefix objects corresponding with the ambiguous input; generating an output set including at least some of the one or more prefix objects, wherein each of the at least some of the one or more prefix objects is associated with an identified corresponding word object; determining, using a processor, a quantity of prefix objects in the output set is fewer than a predetermined quantity, and, based on the determination, adding as an orphan prefix object to the output set an additional prefix object of the one or more of prefix objects for which a corresponding word object was not identified; and outputting the output set.

Abstract: A call connection method and apparatus of a portable terminal capable of reducing errors due to automatic call connection using a user gesture and recognition of the user gesture are provided. The call connection method of a portable terminal includes providing a list according to a user request, sequentially sensing a first event and a second event according to a user gesture performed after a specific object in the list is selected, and performing automatic call connection based on the specific object when the first event and the second event are sensed.

Abstract: Systems and methods providing users with a rich web experience are disclosed. In one embodiment, a client and at least one server are in communication using a dual communication link. In another embodiment, a markup language based instant messaging application is disclosed. The instant messaging application may include group instant messaging. The instant messaging application may also provide group member persistence and message persistence at the server. In another embodiment, a card based web application is disclosed, where the card information and character may be shared with other users or within a group. The cards may also be configurable by users.

Abstract: Call numbers are recognized in order to establish a connection from a lie-switched network to a packet-switched network. In one aspect, a device comprises a unit for detecting a selected string of digits as a selected call number, a unit for storing a plurality of authorized call numbers, a comparator unit for comparing the selected all number to the plurality of stored call numbers, and a unit for converting the selected call number into an associated IP address as soon as the comparator unit detest that the selected call number matches one of the stored all numbers.

Abstract: A method for displaying a contact list of a mobile terminal in order of priority levels is provided. The method includes steps: receiving an incoming call or message; obtaining an incoming phone number of the received call or message; finding out a calling contact associated with the incoming phone number on a contact list of the mobile terminal; obtaining remaining phone numbers associated with the calling contact; setting priority levels for all the phone numbers associated with the calling contact; and displaying all the phone numbers associated with the calling contact in an order of decreasing priority levels from high to low on a display screen of the mobile terminal A related mobile terminal is also provided.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for automatic correction of numeric input, such as telephone numbers. The communications device configured to perform automatic correction can receive a numeric input string indicating a numerical address with which to initiate a communication, and compare the numeric input string to a database of known valid numerical addresses. Then, upon determining that the numeric input string has no match within the database of known valid numerical addresses, the communications device can identify a known valid numerical address that is within a threshold similarity to the numeric input string, and correct the numeric input string. The communications device can initiate communication using the corrected numeric input string. Also set forth herein are a system and method for automatic completion of partially entered numerical addresses.

Abstract: A communication apparatus having an abbreviated dialing function allowing input of a destination number with fewer key input operations and a method of controlling the communication apparatus capable of reducing the operations of inputting a destination number is disclosed. Abstract: Described is a system and method for updating a contact and adding a new contact from a call log in a communications device. The system includes a contact manager that is directed towards creating and updating call contact cards in a contact database with information retrieved from call logs of phone calls made to or from the communications device. In one embodiment, information is pre-populated into a predetermined data field of the contact card, thereby reducing workload to a user. The method includes determining if a request is for updating an existing contact card or for adding a new contact card to the contact database. The update or addition is made with information retrieved from call logs. A first user interface is displayed to a user, the first user interface providing a name field configured to display and/or receive a contact name and a phone address field configured to display and/or receive a phone address associated with the contact name. A speed dial field configured to receive and/or display a speed dial identifier associated with the phone address is provided. When the user later enters speed dial identifier via a telephone, the phone address is called.

Abstract: At a telephony service location remote from a caller and a call recipient, a request for establishing a connection to the call recipient is received. The request is initiated by the caller specifying a number associated with the call recipient. A call recipient originated command signal is received during a call connected phase, the call recipient originated command signal being a single command that is interpreted by the telephony service without the necessity of any additional command being sent. In response to receiving the call recipient originated command signal, a service or transaction is initiated between the caller and the call recipient other than a standard call connection transaction. The call recipient originated command signal is received from a communication device of the call recipient.

Abstract: A system stores a set of telephone numbers dialed by a user. The system selects a subset of telephone numbers from the stored set of telephone numbers as the user's favorite telephone numbers based on one or more first scores, where the one or more scores include a frequency score associated with a frequency that the telephone numbers have been dialed by the user and/or a recency score associated with how recently that the telephone numbers have been dialed by the user. The system stores the list of the user's favorite telephone numbers in memory.

Abstract: Method and system for an Intelligent Prefix Dialer eliminates the necessity for manually dialing an area code as a prefix to a call in telephone systems in which such action is a requirement. The Intelligent Prefix Dialer can be resident in a service provider's Advanced Intelligent Network (AIN) and is capable of analyzing the dialing sequence from the caller's Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) to determine when the caller wishes to dial seven digits. In the event that the caller has dialed seven digits or less, the present invention can append the abbreviated digits the caller has dialed to a caller defined default prefix, in order to form a complete telephone number to be used by the telephone network to establish the connection to a called party.

Abstract: A Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) gateway is provided which upon an extension call between VoIP terminals, optimizes transfer routes of data between the terminals. In setting a session for the extension call, the VoIP gateway converts IP addresses and ports of the originator's and recipient's terminals included in an invite message for session connection transmitted from one terminal of an internal private network of the VoIP gateway into internal IP addresses and internal ports to enable media data of the originator's and recipient's terminals to be directly transmitted without by way of a wide area network (WAN) module and a media server of the VoIP gateway, thereby effectively managing resources of the network system.

Abstract: Systems, products, and methods are disclosed for facilitating a method of receiving data from a keypad of the mobile communications device. One embodiment of the method includes receiving input by way of a given key of the keypad and then dynamically configuring that given key to be a “5” key. In this way, input received by way of this given key will be received as the Arabic numeral “5” regardless of a prior configuration associated with that key. A final illustrative step includes dynamically mapping numerical values to the eight surrounding keys that surround the newly configured “5” key.

A first user interface is displayed to a user, the first user interface providing a name field configured to display and/or receive a contact name and a phone address field configured to display and/or receive a phone address associated with the contact name. A speed dial field configured to receive and/or display a speed dial identifier associated with the phone address is provided. When the user later enters speed dial identifier via a telephone, the phone address is called.

Abstract: A method of facilitating the entry of information for a contact to be stored by an address book application of a handheld electronic device, wherein the information is entered into a plurality of fields. The method includes receiving first information in a first one of the fields, and determining whether the first information can be used to determine second information for entry in one of the fields. If it is determined that the first information can be used to determine the second information, the method includes entering the second information in either the first one of the fields or another one of the fields. Also, a handheld electronic device having one or more routines that are adapted to implement the method described above.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and products are disclosed for processing calls. An alias is associated to a called party's destination number. When the alias is then dialed for a call, the call is routed to the destination number. Exemplary embodiments thus enable a user to make calls without having to dial a long string of numbers. The user, instead, may simply select and dial an easy-to-remember alias associated with the called party.

The advantages of this periodic and automatic telephone redialling system and method are that the user does not have to activate the redialling procedure manually, and the redialling procedure can be performed periodically for one or more phone numbers.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for enabling a network service provider to compare the existing speed dial lists with new entries and only overwrite entries that have been modified are disclosed. In addition, the existing list remains active during this process and is protected from the update process. The existing list is only replaced by the updated list if the update process has been successfully completed without incident; otherwise, the existing list will remain active without being affected.

Abstract: A mobile wireless communication device like a cellular handset includes multiple communication addresses stored in its memory. Each address is associated with one or more inputs of an input key. For example a first telephone number is associated with a single input of a particular key, and a second telephone number may be associated with two sequential inputs of the same key. The communication address is transmitted from the wireless communication device upon entering the one or more key inputs associated therewith and upon maintaining a last of the sequential key inputs for a predetermined time interval.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for unified overlay dialing enables simplified telephone dialing to occur within a standard overlay area and eliminates disruption dealing with area code saturation. Each three-digit area code within an overlay area is associated with a single-digit suffix, with the parent area code obtaining the suffix “0”. Intra-overlay area dialing then proceeds on the basis of a seven digit number plus a one-digit suffix, rather than a full 10 or 1+10-digit number. For dialing to the parent area code from within the overlay area, the suffix may be omitted entirely, and the expiration of a suitable timing delay causes the seven digit number provided to be dialed into the original (parent) area code. This method can be implemented in connection with a telephone company central office switch, a modified custom calling service or be made accessible to individual telephone subscribers using computerized customer premises equipment. It can also be used to simplify dialing in non-overlaid situations.

A timer is started in response to the established connection. At least one digit is dialed by a user and corresponding time data of the timer with the dialed digit is monitored. The monitored digit and corresponding time data is stored. The stored monitored digit and corresponding time data are suitable for performing a redial.

Abstract: A system stores a set of telephone numbers dialed by a user. Abstract: In a fast, convenient voice dialing apparatus and method, users efficiently and conveniently apply a telephone number digit recognition engine to number dialing. By voicing only a subset of a telephone number among telephone numbers pre-registered in a telephone number directory, the success rate of number dialing and convenience of users increases. The voice dialing apparatus includes a fast voice dial mode setting unit, a contracted number database, a contracted number detection unit, and a telephone number connection unit. Since a user only needs to voice a subset of a telephone number stored in a telephone number directory, long telephone numbers are dialed with better recognition performance at an improved speed. Since telephone numbers that users try to call are pre-stored in a telephone number directory, the number of combinable numbers equals the number of lists registered in the telephone number directory, and recognition speed and performance are improved.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and products are disclosed for processing calls. A dialed digit string is received and analyzed to determine whether the dialed digit string is a complete string according to a dialing plan of a service provider. If the dialed digit string is a complete string, then the call is sent for routing to the dialed digit string. If the dialed digit string is not a complete string, then it is determined whether the dialed digit string is a valid string according to a calling party's personal dialing plan. If the dialed digit string is valid, then a number is retrieved that corresponds to the dialed digit string according to the calling party's personal dialing plan. The call is then routed to the number.

Abstract: To provide a mobile telephone terminal which is capable of mitigating burden on the user when telephone directory information is backed-up and reducing likelihood of erasure of the telephone directory information. Abstract: User can input characters and numerals without mode transition on a keypad using Part-Whole Selection (PWSM). Moreover, by allocating characters having higher use frequency to lattice elements on each button in the Order of Proximity to Base Lattice Element (OPBLE), input efficiency of the PWSM is maximized, and the number of times a button is pressed in the Base Repeat Selection Method (BRSM) is minimized. Applying Control Processing Method can simplify character arrangement on a keypad.
