Patent number: 8160650Abstract: A bidirectional slide-type mobile communication terminal for providing a user interface that changes in real time according to input includes a sensor-equipped lower body and an upper body that slides with respect to the lower body. A method of providing such a graphic user interface includes sensing a sliding movement of the upper body, switching the terminal to an operation mode corresponding to the direction of the sliding movement, displaying the graphic user interface corresponding to the operation mode to which the terminal is switched, receiving input from a sensor, and changing the displayed graphic user interface in real time corresponding to the received input.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 2008Date of Patent: April 17, 2012Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Nam-Kyu Kim, Nam-Mi Kim, Chang-Hwan Hwang

Publication number: 20080130866Abstract: A rotary switch assembly (100; 200) is disclosed. The assembly may include a dial assembly (102; 202) having a main body (150; 250) disposed about a centre aperture (132; 232). The main body may be rotatable about a central axis (126; 226) in both a clockwise (106; 206) and counter clockwise direction (108; 208). The dial assembly includes a projecting member (138; 238) extending outward from the main body. The assembly includes a switch (114; 214) having an actuator (156; 256) moveable between a first position (158; 258) and a second position (160; 260). The actuator is positioned such that when the dial assembly is rotated clockwise, the projecting member moves the actuator to the first position, and when rotated counter clockwise, the projecting member moves the actuator to the second position.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 21, 2007Publication date: June 5, 2008Applicant: Sony EMCS (Malaysia) Sdn. Patent number: 6912280Abstract: A keypad device for a mobile telephone or other device utilizing a keypad or keyboard is comprised of a flexible substrate and a keypad cover. The flexible substrate includes a plurality of keys affixed to the surface as well as a plurality first conductive strips associated with each key. The keypad cover is attached to the flexible substrate. The keypad cover typically includes holes that permit the plurality of keys to protrude through the keypad cover. In addition, the keypad cover further includes a plurality of second conductive strips that selectively contact a corresponding first conductive strip on the flexible substrate. The plurality of first conductive strips is coupled to ground and the plurality of second conductive strips is coupled to logic circuitry. Or, in another embodiment, both sets of conductive strips are coupled with the logic circuitry. The default position of the keypad device has each of the first conductive strips in contact with each of the corresponding second conductive strips.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 2002Date of Patent: June 28, 2005Assignee: Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications ABInventor: Raymond C. Publication number: 20040264690Abstract: A single press method for entering text using a keypad is disclosed. A conventional four-row by three-column 12-key keypad is used to enter all of the letters of the alphabet using single key actuation. Depending on the letter, either a single key or multiple side-by-side keys, such as a pair of side-by-side keys, that can be substantially simultaneously depressed by a user's finger or thumb are used to enter alphabet letters.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 27, 2003Publication date: December 30, 2004Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Justine E. Patent number: 5235635Abstract: A keypad monitor which monitors the condition of a plurality of switches of a keypad is activated in response to receiving clock signals from an external clock source and is deactivated in the absence of the clock signals. The keypad monitor includes a key switch monitor which detects the closure of any one of the keypad switches to provide a first output signal, a clock detector for detecting the absence of the clock signals to provide a second output signal and any key down output logic which is responsive to the first and second output signals for providing an activation signal. The activation signal causes the external clock source to provide the keypad monitor with the clock signals for activating the keypad monitor.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 1990Date of Patent: August 10, 1993Assignee: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.Inventor: Dale E. Patent number: 4800585Abstract: A digital telephone set dial pulsing circuit in which the line current switching element is a bipolar transistor. To keep such switching transistor constantly in the saturated state irrespective of the magnitude of the line current, its base is driven by a current source supplying a current linearly related to the line current. In order to prevent an excessive voltage drop in the current source, which would reduce the voltage for the remaining circuits of the telephone set, the current source is voltage-controlled by a control circuit which provides a control voltage linearly related to the line current.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 1987Date of Patent: January 24, 1989Assignee: U.S. Philips Corp.Inventor: Hendricus A.
