  • Patent number: 8488592
Abstract: A unified session detail records of a multi-hop session is provided. The multi-hop session may be established through multiple nodes in a VoIP network. Each node may generate session detail records for the legs of the multi-hop session that are connected to the node. The nodes on the path of the multi-hop call may send the record to a single node to consolidate the session detail records of the legs of the multi-hop call in the single node so that the single node can provide unified session detail records of the multi-hop session. By providing unified session detail records, the user does not need to track down the nodes that are on the path of the multi-hop call to obtain the session detail records of the multi-hop session.

  • Patent number: 8428225
Abstract: Data indicative of a level of stability of a DSL link is received. Based on the received data, it is determined whether the data indicates a level of stability of the DSL link that is above or below a minimum threshold. If the level of stability of the DSL link is below the minimum threshold, die noise associated with the DSL link before the time of failure is compared with the noise associated with the DSL link after the time of failure. If the difference between the noise before and after the time of failure exceeds a threshold, then the difference in noise is characterized as a stationary noise associated with the DSL link. However, if the difference between the noise before and after the time of failure is below the threshold, a determination is made whether the failure is associated with a loss of power to the DSL link or a severe impulse noise event—the difference in noise is characterized accordingly.

Abstract: Diagnostic testing of a telephony line card device and corresponding line card is initiated using an initiation MIB. Responding to an instruction from a main processor that a query has determined that an initiation MID is Set, line card processor circuitry begins a predetermined series of diagnostic testing. Results for the diagnostic testing are stored in a register coupled to the line card processor circuitry. After testing completes, the main processor, which is coupled to the line card processor, retrieves the results information from the line card register, converts the information to one or more results MIB(s) and stores the results MIB(s) as an instance(s) to a memory coupled to the main processor. The result MIB instance(s) is/are made available to a local or remote device via port coupled to the line card device. A permissive MIB may be queried to determine whether diagnostic testing is permitted.

The ALIT database is updated with repair package information in response to receiving an add repair package request.

Abstract: Methods and systems for proactively maintaining a telephone system local loop. One embodiment includes acquiring at least one type of information selected from information from a Dynamic Network Analyzer or information from a Loop Facilities and Control System. Another embodiment includes communicating with a communications network and acquiring at least one type of information selected from the group consisting of customer information associated with copper line pairs and service information associated with copper line pairs. Still another embodiment describes a system including software modules communicating with a communications network. Software modules include a Dynamic Network Analyzer module and a Loop Facilities and Control System module. A database interfaces with the Dynamic Network Analyzer module and with the Loop Facilities and Control System module. A processor is also included, and the processor is capable of processing information stored in the database and of generating proactive maintenance.

  • Patent number: 7568133
Abstract: Methods of automatically generating trouble tickets for network elements which are in failure and affecting network performance. The network elements are sectionalized into their basic components so that the failure in the elements can be localized and diagnosed. Once the failure has been diagnosed, a trouble ticket is automatically generated my network maintenance so that the repair of the element can be scheduled and undertaken. The trouble tickets are made available via the network to customers that are concerned that circuits on which they operate and which may be malfunctioning due to the network element failure can be kept informed of the status of the repair and the failure.

  • Patent number: 7505566
Abstract: A method for analyzing automatic line insulation testing (ALIT) data comprising receiving an electronic version of ALIT test results and parsing the ALIT test results to extract error data. The error data is inserted into an ALIT database. A number of exceptions per wire center occurring on a selected summary date is calculated in response to receiving a summary request from a user, and the summary date is transmitted to the user in response to the calculating. User records located in the ALIT database that include a selected wire center and a selected detail date are transmitted to the user in response to receiving from the user a wire center detail request. The ALIT database is updated with repair package information in response to receiving an add repair package request.

Abstract: A method and device for recording call failure information in a data transmission system is provided. The failure logs generated in response to a failure event include a failure type and a first timestamp. A log record is created for a first failure log based on the failure type, and storied in a log record storage. Whenever a further failure log is generated in response to the same failure event, the further failure log includes said failure type and a current timestamp, so that it will receive the same identifier. The log record is updated to document the current timestamp.

Abstract: A diagnostic tool is adapted to include the capability of initiating one or more diagnostic tests, collecting the raw data from the diagnostic test(s) and transporting the raw diagnostic data to an OSS. The OSS interprets the raw diagnostic data and stores the results in a database. The stored results can be searched, sorted, manipulated, analyzed, and the like. The results of any of these operations can then be, for example, displayed to one or more entities such as customer support, network operators, network planners, or the like.

  • Patent number: 7433450
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for connection verification. An embodiment includes a DSL based system, with a tester resident at a central office respective to a DSLAM. When a problem is encountered by a subscriber, the tester can be readily connected to the DSLAM to allow performance of tests on the connection between the tester, the DSLAM and the Internet. If such tests are successful, then service provider can eliminate that portion of the link as the source of the connectivity problem. If unsuccessful, the service provider can repair that portion of the connection, and thereby potentially obviate the need to send a technician to the subscriber premises.

  • Patent number: 7420927
Abstract: After completion of a voice-over IP call, for example, first information representing a Layer 3 path of a packet flow of a completed call that has passed through a packet-switched network is created. Second information representing a Layer 2 path of a packet flow of the completed call is also created. One or more selected phone call detail records are retrieved, which are associated with the completed call. Thus, the likely path of a troubled call is determined, and phone call detail records associated with key points in the path are located. The first information, second information, and selected phone call detail records are provided to a user for use in evaluating one or more problems experienced in the completed call.

  • Patent number: 7340037
Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed for correlating work orders. One embodiment includes communicating with a communications network and acquiring new work order information representing a new work order. The new work order information is searched for at least one correlation parameter. A database of existing work orders is also searched for the at least one correlation parameter. The new work order information is grouped with existing work order information that shares the at least one correlation parameter and that has a date and time stamp within a predetermined interval of a date and time stamp of the new work order. The process, therefore, correlates the new work order with an existing work order having the at least one correlation parameter and a similar date and time stamp.
