  • Patent number: 6883257
Abstract: An ironing board has an electrically heated working surface with an electrical heater element disposed therein and an electrical connector for connection of an electrically heated iron. A power management system within the ironing board has a sensor that detects whether the iron is connected to the ironing board. The ironing board and iron can be selectively set to one of a plurality of heat ranges. The power management system detects thermostatically regulated demands for electrical current by each of the ironing board and iron and a controller selectively provides electrical current to at most one of the ironing board heater element and iron so as to not exceed a predetermined maximum electrical current. Control circuitry provides either a fixed or proportional temperature differential between the ironing board and the connected iron. The ironing board can include a height adjuster for selectively adjusting a height of the ironing board.

  • Patent number: 6266902
Abstract: An ironing board has a main board and a smaller sleeve board which is separable for ironing sleeves and small items. The sleeve board slides relative to the main board on a slide mechanism, which preferably includes a number of parallel slides, in such a way that the main board and the sleeve board remain coplanar. To hold the sleeve board in its offset position, the slide mechanism has stops which hold the sleeve board in the offset position (in which a gap separates the main board and the sleeve board) and the juxtaposed position, in which the sleeve board is pressed against the main board. The stops are releasable by click detents, release buttons or knobs, or the like, so that the sleeve board can be moved between the juxtaposed and offset positions. Preferably, the detents comprise indentations and teeth pressed together by springs or the weight of some part of the device.

  • Patent number: 6151817
Abstract: An ironing table having an ironing board which possesses at one end two sections extending side by side, approximately in one plane, specifically a clothes ironing section and a sleeve ironing section narrower than the latter, the two sections being separated from one another by a gap. The gap extends approximately to the height of the center of the ironing board, the clothes ironing section admittedly having the width of a conventional ironing board, so that the overall width of the ironing board in the region of the clothes ironing section and sleeve ironing section is greater than the width of a conventional ironing board. In addition, the longitudinal side of the ironing board assigned to the sleeve ironing section extends from approximately the center of the ironing board to the other end of the ironing board, so that the width of this end of the ironing board approximately corresponds to the width of the clothes ironing section, in other words to a conventional ironing board.

  • Patent number: 4910894
Abstract: In a press wherein an expandable buck and a heated pressing plate are utilized, provision is made for the expansion of the buck without interrupting the overall press finish of garments of varying dimension. The expandable buck includes a thickened longitudinally extending central buck member and two side members. These two side members telescope outwardly from the central buck member. In operation, a garment such as a shirt is passed over the expandable buck. The buck is then expanded at the side members until the garment at its full girth is stretched over the buck. The pressing plate is configured to coact with the buck. It includes an indentation that is configured to coact with the central buck member and thus effect pressing of that portion of the full girth of the garment that overlies the central buck member. It further includes side pressing surfaces designed for cooperative engagement at the expandable sides of the buck protruding beyond the central member.
