In a preferred embodiment enabled by an electroluminescent system without a back electrode, a fingerprint is disposed to close the open circuit by making contact and thereby serving as a "temporary" back electrode. The electroluminescent then energizes in a pattern in register with the contact (i.e. the fingerprint) to emit a high-resolution image of visible light with high fidelity to the contact. This visible light image may then be directed on to a photosensitive array standard in the art suitable for pixelation and conversion into an electrical signal representative of the image. This signal is available for computerized storage, analysis, processing and comparison.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 1998Date of Patent: July 18, 2000Assignee: E.L. Patent number: 5589636Abstract: The number of transducers in the scanning of an ultrasonic field from an object is reduced by providing ultrasonic collectors at spaced apart locations in the medium and transmitting the ultrasonic waves which are collected to a transducer through waveguides or paths having different transit times. The waveguides can be individually of different lengths or can be of equal length and terminate at different distances along a common collecting waveguide.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 1994Date of Patent: December 31, 1996Assignee: Sonident Anstalt Liechtensteinischen RechtsInventor: Wieslaw Bicz

Patent number: 4490848Abstract: Method and apparatus is disclosed for automatically processing visual images electronically so as to permit intelligent machine analysis of the image content. A special distributed logic system architecture facilitates rapid real time image analysis and the production of reaction control signals in a high speed production line environment, for example. Dedicated decision logic is employed to determine in but a single microinstruction cycle whether a detected corner point of the image should be linked to another already linked chain of such corner points so as to define part of a closed edge contour of the image under examination. This ability to so rapidly classify encoded corner points as either belonging or not belonging to a given set of such corner points which describe a closed edge contour is quite useful in achieving rapid real time image analysis capability.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1982Date of Patent: December 25, 1984Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Donald L.
