Elastic drawstring having improved modulus and improved tensile yield for use on a plastic liner bag
Patent number: 7520673Abstract: An elastic drawstring for use in a plastic liner bag is disclosed. The drawstring is elongated and then relaxed to secure the top of the bag to a receptacle and subsequently used to close the bag when filled. The drawstring is formed from an elastomeric polyolefin, preferably a linear low density polyethylene, and contains material comprising polypropylene. The polypropylene addition provides the drawstring with improved modulus or stiffness and improved tensile yield. Improving these properties gives the drawstring a stronger holding force for maintaining the bag in the receptacle and in a closed position when the bag is removed from the receptacle. In addition, the top of the bag has perfed notches at each side that break away to expose the ends of the elastic drawstrings when the consumer stretches the drawstrings around the top of the receptacle. These perfed notches allow for easier manufacturing of the bag.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2005Date of Patent: April 21, 2009Assignee: Reynolds Consumer Products, Inc.Inventor: Douglas D. Bonke -

Patent number: 6994469Abstract: A retaining element for use with elastic sheet material is disclosed. In one form, the sheet material can be provided as a bag having first and second side walls. The retaining element can be in the form of an elastic strip attached to one of the side walls. The retaining strip can comprise a heat-unstable activatable material such that it can be applied to the bag in a deadened condition wherein the strip is set and subsequently heated to transition to an activated condition wherein the retaining element is elasticized to provide an elasticized article which can have a shirred appearance. The retaining element can have various configurations and can be activated by various methods.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 2002Date of Patent: February 7, 2006Assignee: The Glad Products CompanyInventors: Greg William Sleight, Amit Shah, John Rusnak, Jack Melvan, Timothy LaRocque

Patent number: 6921202Abstract: A trash bag incorporating a mouth securing system for securing the bag to a receptacle. The invention utilizes elastic strands, or alternatively elastic bands, adhesively attached to a trash bag and extending along the mouth of the bag. The elastic strands are attached to the bag while the strands are stretched. When the strands are allowed to return to their unstretched state, the bag gathers along the strands thereby providing a stretchable region along the mouth of the bag. The bag is configured so that when the strands are unstretched, the bag mouth is smaller than the receptacle opening, but when the strands are stretched, the bag mouth is larger than the opening. The bag is placed in the receptacle, the mouth stretched and placed over the receptacle opening. The elastic strands then retract creating a restoring force that secures the bag to the receptacle.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2002Date of Patent: July 26, 2005Assignee: Nordson CorporationInventor: John M. Patent number: 6779921Abstract: Reclosable bags, plastic film for making the bags, and a method and apparatus for making the bags are disclosed. The bag has a reclosable fastener (26) connected to a single wall of the bag, and the film (55) has a reclosable fastener (26) connected to one side thereof which does not require attachment to any other portion of the film (55) when making a bag. The fastener (26) has a tamper-proof member attached thereto to indicate if the bag has been previously opened. The film (55) can be wound into a roll (54) suitable for use on conventional bag making machines including form, fill, and seal machines or a chain of coilable reclosable bags can be produced therefrom since the fasteners (26) are connected to the web preferably transversely to the bags longitudinal formation axis.Type: GrantFiled: December 26, 2000Date of Patent: August 24, 2004Assignee: Innoflex IncorporatedInventor: James W.
