  • Publication number: 20080112652
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a zipper for a reclosable package or bag and a method of forming thereof, wherein aligned apertures are cut into the zipper flanges proximate to the slider position when the package or bag is open. Portions of the front and rear walls of the package or bag extend through these apertures during the original manufacture of the bag, and are sealed to each other during the same sealing operation which seals the front and rear walls of the package or bag to the flanges of the zipper. The resulting seal between the front and rear walls, extending through the apertures in the zipper flanges, prevents the zipper profiles from opening in the portion where the slider is positioned when the reclosable package or bag is open.

  • Patent number: 7371008
Abstract: A tamper indicating, resealable closure for a package includes first and second film layers releasably adhesively joined together such that the first and second film layers are at least partially separable when the second film layer is pulled away from the first film layer. The first film layer includes first and second tear lines formed thereon to define first and second panel sections respectively. The first panel section defines an access opening through the first film layer when it is separated along the first tear line during an initial separation of the first and second film layers. The second panel section also becomes separated from the first film layer when the second film layer is separated from the first film layer to provide an indication of an initial opening of the closure. Subsequently, the second film layer may be re-adhered to the first film layer to reseal the access opening, while the second panel section remains separated from the first film layer.

  • Patent number: 7364362
Abstract: A tamper-evident reclosable package having a header that is tack sealed to the zipper. A light tack, in the form of a light weld, is made at the end of the package header. The header is the top portion of the package and is designed to shroud the zipper. The header serves as a tamper-evident feature, and also serves to maintain cleanliness and aesthetics of the package. The header must be tom before a person can gain access to the contents of the package. Typically, means for preferential tearing are provided for easy removal of the header. The tack seal contributes to the maintenance of the cleanliness and aesthetics of the package, while still allowing easy removal of the header. The tack is light (i.e., low bond strength or pull-off force) in order to not make it significantly more difficult to open the package.

Abstract: A reclosable package has a flexible zipper and a flexible funnel that can be turned inside out to provide a spout for dispensing the package contents. The funnel has a terminal portion that is offset relative to a midplane of the package. Initially, the funnel is tucked inside the filled package in an unopened state. The funnel can be accessed by pulling apart the zipper halves. The consumer must reach inside the open package and pull the funnel inside out. Then the tip of the funnel is snipped, cut or torn to provide a spout for dispensing product. The offset of the opening allows the consumer to better direct the pour of the package contents, while making the bag easier to handle, especially large bags. The funnel itself directs the package contents, especially fine powders, away from the reclosable zipper profiles so that one or both profiles do not become clogged with matter that might interfere with interlocking.

A primer material is positioned on the back flap extension member and an adhesive material is placed on the back flap extension member that folds over to overlie and contact the primer material. The back flap extension member adheres to the front flap extension member and portions of the front wall to close the second end. When the back flap extension member liftingly separates from the front wall, at least one of the back flap extension member and the front wall tears indicating evidence of tampering.

Abstract: A bag having a reclosable sealer and methods of forming and using the same are provided. The bag, for example, can include a tube body having a plurality of laminated layers. A reclosable sealer can be attached to a first wall of the tube body. When the bag is in an open bag position, a first portion of the reclosable sealer is separated from a second portion of the reclosable sealer. When the reclosable sealer is in the closed seal position, the first portion of the reclosable sealer contacts the second portion of the reclosable sealer forming a seal to thereby allow the bag to be readily opened and closed. Peripheral portions of the bag can remain unsealed after initial opening when the reclosable sealer is in the closed seal position to indicate that initial opening has occurred and that tampering with the bag may have occurred.

Abstract: A security bag includes a tamper-evident closure which provides a visual indication if the closure is opened. The closure includes an ink layer deposited on one wall of the security bag or on a flexible strip secured to one wall of the security bag, and an adhesive layer in overlying relationship with the ink layer for sealing the bag closed. The ink layer includes a release material deposited in a predetermined pattern, and a layer of a solid ink applied over the release material so that the predetermined pattern of the release material is not visible in the closure. The solid ink layer includes void spaces arranged in a predetermined pattern. Preferably, the pattern of the void spaces is out of registry with the pattern of the release material so that the void spaces and release material overlap to varying degrees in the closure. If the closure is forced open, the solid ink will delaminate from the surface on which it is printed, revealing in the closure the predetermined pattern of the release material.
