Publication number: 20040154268Abstract: A method for making a reclosable bag (56) with gussets (36, 38) in which a zipper profile (16) is attached to bag-making film (10), while leaving side margins (20, 22) of the film. The film (10) is folded as a tube (26). Gusset-forming wheels (34, 35) indent the tube (26) to form the side gussets (36, 38). The side gussets (36, 38) are sealed to the tube (26) and/or the zipper profile (18) with the profile sealed to the tube. The tube (26) is sealed and cross-cut to form the bag (56). In an alternative method, lengths of tubular gusset material (112) are positioned on a lower web (110) of film (101) transverse to a bag-forming direction. A zipper (124) is sealed in the bag-forming direction to the webs (108, 110), and the gusset material (112). The webs (108, 110) and the material (112) are sealed to each other to form an end seal (140) as well as cross-cut and sealed to form the gussets (144, 148) of a reclosable bag (147).Type: ApplicationFiled: February 11, 2003Publication date: August 12, 2004Inventors: Steven Ausnit, Donald L. Publication number: 20040146222Abstract: A flexible package is provided with a shrouded slider fastener closure. The slider traverses fastener tracks which extend across the width of the flexible package, including side seals which form the side margins of the package. The film forming the front and real panels of the flexible package extends over and above the fastener tracks and slider, forming an upper shroud portion. A line of weakness is formed in the plastic film below the fastener tracks and a cut line immediately adjacent a side seal of the flexible package intersects the line of weakness so as to propagate a tear opening thereto. The cut line either extends to the side edge of the flexible package or an opening in the form of a tear notch, for example, is located in the side seal to initiate tearing with propagation to the cut line. In this manner, tension relief is provided for the plastic film while allowing the slider to remain substantially enclosed.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 29, 2003Publication date: July 29, 2004Applicant: Kraft Foods Holdings, Inc.Inventors: Panagiotis Kinigakis, Kenneth Pokusa

Publication number: 20030103689Abstract: A reclosable package has a first wall and a second wall opposite to the front wall. A first zipper profile including a first interlocking member is attached to the first wall and a second profile having a second interlocking member, engageable with the first interlocking member, is attached to the second wall. A slider is positioned on the profiles for movement along the profiles from side to side of the package. Package material is provided which must be removed or ruptured to permit operation of the slider or to provide access to the package contents. In either event, the steps needed to permit the initial access to the package contents leave clear evidence for a consumer that the package has been opened.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 6, 2003Publication date: June 5, 2003Inventors: John H. Publication number: 20030063819Abstract: A plastic bag comprises opposing body panels fixedly connected to each other along a pair of sides and a bottom bridging the pair of sides. A reclosable zipper extending along a mouth portion formed opposite the sealed bottom of the plastic bag. The zipper is preferably free of graspable upper pull flanges in order to best accommodate a slider and inhibit operation of the zipper without the slider. The slider is mounted to the zipper for movement between a closed position and an open position. The zipper is closed while the slider is in the closed position. The zipper is opened in response to movement of the slider to the open position. To inhibit tampering with the contents of the bag, the bag includes a tamper-evident feature. In one set of embodiments, the tamper-evident feature initially maintains the slider in the closed position and allows the slider to move away from the closed position toward the open position in response to removing or breaking the tamper-evident feature.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 7, 2002Publication date: April 3, 2003Inventor: Craig E. Publication number: 20030052035Abstract: A storage pillow is provided having a flexible casing formed by two body panels joined together with an unjoined portion in the form of a mouth that communicates with an interior. The body panels may be constructed of a water resistant material and the casing mouth may have an associated closure. There may also be a cushioning layer interposed between the body panels. The pillow also includes an inflatable bladder that is removably disposed inside the casing. The bladder may be filled with air via an inflation valve that communicates with an array of inflatable cells in communication with one another. The inflated bladder provides protection for the storage of items or may be used as a cushioned support. The bladder has an associated closure to enable it to retain personal items within its interior.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 15, 2002Publication date: March 20, 2003Inventor: Kent H. Dickinson
