The sheet material is spread flat on a support surface with the resin-coating facing upwardly and a heat-treatable drawstring member of a predetermined length is positioned thereon generally parallel to and along an edge portion thereof. The edge portion is folded over the drawstring about a fold line extending generally parallel to the drawstring. The sheet material portions lying adjacent the sides of the drawstring are sealed together simultaneously, without bonding the drawstring to the sheet material, by applying heat across and over the drawstring.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1990Date of Patent: November 10, 1992Inventor: Marion P. Patent number: 5118201Abstract: A bag mouth closure structure having a semirigid drawstring comprising a handle and a flexible cord. The semirigid drawstring assists in holding the mouth of a bag open so that articles can be easily deposited. The handle is a substantially rigid tube that allows a bag to simultaneously hang and perform as an open mouth receptacle. A shoulder strap passes through the hollow handle and is fastened into a closed loop. The shoulder strap and handle are provided for carrying as well as suspending a bag. Some ways of attaching the bag mouth structure to the upper portion of a bag are here briefly described. The flexible string and the hollow handle may be encased in a hem at the top of a bag wall or within the fold at the top of a double-wall bag. Or the flexible string along may be encased within a hem or fold at the top of a bag and captured within the handle.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 1990Date of Patent: June 2, 1992Inventor: Teel M. Patent number: 5092681Abstract: A drawstring trash container which is characterized by a sheet of flexible, resilient material such as plastic, having a selected thickness and provided with peripheral loops, slits or a continuous channel for receiving a drawstring. The drawstring trash container is designed to be placed flat on the ground or other supporting surface, loaded with trash such as leaves and the like, and the drawstring tightened in the loops, slits or channel to secure the trash in the resulting bag. The drawstring ends may then be tied to secure the drawstring trash container for storage or trash pick-up.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 1990Date of Patent: March 3, 1992Inventor: William G. Patent number: 5044775Abstract: A series of bags are fabricated using a continuous, high-speed bag-forming process in which an elongated section of flattened film tubing is longitudinally conveyed toward a receiving station in which the formed bags are suitably packaged. As the flattened tube is moved toward the receiving station, elongated plastic film tie elements are sequentially formed and welded along relatively large area end portions thereof to at least two layers of a side edge portion of the flattened tube at longitudinally spaced locations thereon adjacent the upper end locations of the individual bags, the resulting free end portions of the tie elements overlying the flattened tube.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 1990Date of Patent: September 3, 1991Assignee: John C.
